“Here, take this” + penguin!Yoongi with mouse!reader + fluff (gentoo penguins propose to their lifemates with a pebble 😭😭)
Yoongi has never been so stressed before.
This is the third store he's visited, stayed for hours to look through their stone collections, and he still couldn't find it. Every stone and pebble he inspected was either too small, too big, too rough, too smooth, too glossy, too dull- he really was about to loose it.
Tomorrow is the last day of your shared trip to the seaside- he has to find it until then. He can't go home without it, he needs to give it to you because if not what kind of partner is he?
And then he spots it, sitting on a small pillow, almost as if calling out to him. He's glued to the window, hand on it as his eyes stare it down.
That's the one.
He rushes inside, social anxiety clawing at his nerves, but he can't be shy now. He has to overcome his boundaries, has to ask for this specific stone right there because if it's not this one, then there's no hope. "I uh- the, in front of the window.." he stutters, and the saleswoman smiles politely, having spotted his signature little waddle in hus step already.
"Ah, you mean this one?" she says, walking him over to the stone she picks up carefully, and he already feels protective of it for some odd reason.
Stupid hybrid habits.
"Would you like to hold it?" she asks, and he nods, opening both of his palms when the woman drops it in them.
His eyes widen. It's the perfect weight- not too much, not too light. The surface is only slightly textured, not too smooth, vault also not rough to the touch. There's no cracks, no scratches- tiny spots inside the gem reflecting the light playfully, forcing his attention, luring him in. The shape is perfect too; slightly oval shaped, not perfectly round.
It's perfect.
"It's a comfort stone specifically made for Birds such as penguins." she says. "you might think it's made from rose quartz, but it's actually rhodochrosite. It becomes warm from touch and stores it well, therefore it's a perfect comfort stone with a more unique color compared to our others." she explains, and Yoongi nods.
"I take it." he says, and the lady smiles, preparing a box for the stone.
Later that day, you're both sitting on the balcony of your hotel room. "here, take this." he says, before he gives you two boxes. "th-this one first, please." he tells you, visibly nervous.
You wonder what it is, when you pull out a new, soft looking stone pouch; an item sold for Otter hybrids you've been eyeing lately online. "Oh yoongi, that's so pretty!" you squeal in your typical fashion, instantly pulling it over your head as you smile happily. "now let's see what- oh, it's heavy!" you notice, eyes wide open with excitement as you open the box.
There's a black velvet bag inside, the size of your palm- and when you take the item out, you can't help but stare in awe for a moment.
The stone is beautiful, a rosy pink color with white marbling and swirls, shape perfectly imperfect, warmth of your palm seeping into the stone at a mere touch. "Yoongi.." you whisper, and he squirms a bit in his seat.
"I.. It's, you know, your favourite color, and the other pebbles I looked for were so tiny and cheap and-" you suddenly squeak, making him grin because you're only this open with the noises you make with him. You're only this cuddly with him. You're only this excited and raw and pretty when you're with him.
It makes him feel proud.
"I'm gonna keep this forever, Yoongi, thus must've been so expensive-" you rant, but he just leans in to kiss you, weight finally off his shoulders as he realizes he really did find the perfect stone for you.
"nonsense." he says, opening his arms to invite you into his lap- an invitation you gladly take. "Nothing but the best for you." he mumbles into your neck, while you both hold each other, the new stone warmed by your love.
The sun setting, dipping you in a golden glow.
