I can see myself from a distance
I take in the view
I watch my form from the shadows
Vignetting the corners of the scene
I can see my feet on the path of darkness
I remember making the choice to follow it
My memory flashes back to the fork
On one side:
The light and wind danced
From one grass blade to the next
The delicate daisies lined the way
On the other:
The path was soft with mud
Trees with daunting limbs reached down
Cold air and a light fog rose up from the edges
This was the choice I'd heard about
"You will know when you see it"
And I knew
Or maybe I thought
Or maybe I'd hoped
Or was it a dream?
Possibly a wish?
It was too good to be true
So I should have known
Sooner or later
The light would fade
The wind would howl
The wolves would come
Suddenly, I forget how I got here
This dark wood that encases me now
Erases my memories of light and love
Each step I take onto the solid, cool, earth
Leaves a dripping crimson imprint
My soft soles were not ready for the thorns

Things to remember for myself
I am kind.
I am loving.
I am smart.
I am empathetic.
I am honest.
I am open.
I am creative.
I am compassionate.
I am growing everyday.
I am not perfect but I am human.
It’s okay to be sad.
It’s okay to have feelings.
It’s okay to overthink sometimes and ask for reassurance and love from those you love and trust.
You are not evil or annoying for needing extra love.
And most importantly no matter the outcome of whatever path I choose or end up on, I will be okay.
I will be patient with myself.
I will continue to learn and grow everyday.
