aesthetic  — a smile more feral than charming. salty hair don’t care days. hiding ambition behind a clever façade, pearls overspilling from a broken jewelry box.standing outside during a thunderstorm. the warmth of sun on your skin. clever as the devil and twice as pretty. a face straight out of myths. sand beneath bare feet. the roar of the ocean’s waves hiding screams. ambition coloring every decision. close to few, nice to fewer. a look that claims to know more than everyone else in the room. chin raised in defiance.

hello all! i’m ali (28, est, she/her), and i’m definitely excited to get things going here with nerissa and astraea! i’m currently a teacher and things are definitely a bit hectic right now with everything going on, but this is going to be tons of fun!!
— basics
✳︎ . ⋆ *゚ | introducing princess nerissa ondine of the summer court. they have arrived at the high court and rumor has it they are against the peace treaty signed 100 years ago. they are a one hundred forty-five year old high faerie and you know they’re around when you get flashes of a smile more feral than charming, salty hair don’t care days, hiding ambition behind a clever façade, pearls overspilling from a broken jewelry box. ₓ  ( hannah john-kamen, demi female, she/they )
— background
waves roared and thrashed with her impending arrival, all stormy seas and darkened skies. her mother appeared much calmer than the seas outside the window, but her mood was easy to predict in those days. her father paced anxiously outside the door, snapping at those who dared tell their king to calm. when the child finally arrived into the world, the waves calmed and the sky brightened once more. supposedly it was because of her parent’s contentment at having an heir to mold in their image, to take over when her father and mother were little more than foam on the sea. she never believed that; it always seemed far too fanciful and perfect for such an event of such magnitude as her birth. her mother named her nerissa ondine, princess of the summer court, and almost as though protesting, she began to wail and the seas churned once more in time with her mood. her father laughed and proclaimed that perhaps he shouldn’t have given her a name meaning ‘little wave’ when it was clear she was meant for so much more than that.
she grew to be a wild, wicked thing, dark hair streaming behind her as bare feet kicked up sand when ran down the beaches surrounding her home. the guards were keeping an ever watchful eye on her as always, but even better, her mother watched from the waves, an indulgent smile on her face. nerissa loved the sea more than anything, how it flowed around her and made her feel as though she was a part of everything. but she also loved the harshness of the ground beneath her feet on the land. she loved the feeling of gravity settling upon her, anchoring her to the ground, just as much as she loved the freedom of movement under the water. eventually, she would fall into the ocean’s arms whenever she began to tire, and her mother would carry her to bed, singing to her about human sailors drowning to a siren’s call. it seemed unfair that her father was never present in these moments, but he was far too busy plotting and dealing with war to concern himself with raising his heir.
and so she grew up, as temperamental as the sea itself. she knew her place in the grand scheme of things; she knew her duty to the summer throne, and she was proud of her position and future. but more than that, she was hungry for more. ambition began to color her words until her mother spoke to her in private about the dangers in voicing her voracious appetite for more and how it would bring ruin upon her. she was young and unproven, her mother told her. the words were little more than a childish fancy running through her mind. a throne and crown brought immense power, that was certain, but it brought a great amount of danger to their lives with every ill-spoken word. this kingdom was safe, her mother would tell her, especially in the times after the treaty was signed. nerissa knew her mother only wanted what was best for her, but the queen was content with what had been given to her. she would warn the girl with the story of a golden boy reaching too high for the sun and falling into the waves due to the same hubris her mother saw being nurtured in her. nerissa would retort with a wry smile that falling into the water was an obvious reward for the boy for his efforts considering how splendid the oceans were. the lesson remained the same, and though she learned to temper her words, nerissa’s mind churned with all of the possibilities the future could bring.
settling had never been her strong suit, her mother would say before leaving nerissa to her schemes. people might claim she was a daydreamer with her head stuck above the waves; nerissa strongly disagreed. saying she was daydreaming would imply that her plans were merely fantasies when she knew they were so much more than that. nerissa loved her kingdom and what she would one day inherit after her beloved parents were gone, but desire coursed through her veins. it warred with the knowledge that she should be happy with what she had, especially when so many would give anything to be in her position. whatever higher power ( if any such creature existed ) had clearly blessed her from the start to be the next ruler of her court, but perhaps they cursed her as well to never be satisfied. she didn’t want to simply be royalty; she strived for divinity.
— abilities
nerissa had always been a bit of an overachiever from birth. her power seemed to spill from her very being, though her mother was quick to temper it down. it was useful, her father would say, to have a powerful heir, but a dangerous notion too. nerissa knew it was in part because of what other courts may think, but primarily because of the challenge she could pose to him one day should she come into her own before his time was over. she’s been careful since then, with her mother’s help, to not appear as ambitious or powerful, hiding herself behind a seemingly charming smile and pretty clothes and jewels. as far as abilities go, she possesses the typical fae abilities like flight, potion making, glamours, etc. but she also possesses a high level of ability natural to the summer court including being able to manipulate water around her in varying degrees including influencing stormy weather and rough seas. she can winnow, as many of the royal high fae can, and can breathe underwater. she has some measure of communication with sea creatures, though communicating with them can be difficult. her speed in the sea is unparalleled. her skin seems to glow with a teal shimmer with scales seeming to appear when she enters the sea.
