Anna and the Frozen Heart - a darker reimagining of Disney's 2013 hit, Frozen.

As you may know, based on my art, I’m a fan of Frozen and a part of fandom in general. To me, the movie is good. It has funny and intense moments, memorable characters, interesting plot along with its twists. The songs are great, too.

However, I used to believe that it’s a perfect movie until I stumbled on concept art and the early drafts, blogs, outtakes, general — and rare — info about what happened during its development, and well, I realized that it has so much more potential to be an ‘excellent’ one.

Especially when I discovered the world of fanfiction. I kept searching for any fanfic that is about the early versions of Frozen, but they are either incomplete (sadly some even have great potential) or not being my cup of tea.

So rather than spamming comments on others’ fanfics so that they write whatever I want — looking at you, fanfiction.net bot readers — I decide to write “Anna and the Frozen Heart,” my first big fanfic. The story is based on various early drafts from the movie, but keeps the core themes and ideas from the movie.

Originally, I did write the fanfic way before since 2019, on Wattpad then fanfiction.net, but left it incomplete because of an inconsistent plot and a lack of outline for the story. So, this is more like a “rewrite” than a new idea.

The fanfic will only be found on Archive of Our Own, my username is M_IhsanArt. Of course, there will be deleted and exploration scenes, which are only uploaded here on Tumblr.

Here's the story's synopsis:

As the fjord kingdom of Arendelle celebrates their Crown Princess Anna's wedding to the dashing Admiral Hans Westergaard, an ancient troll prophecy comes to light when Anna’s long-lost estranged sister, the cold-hearted Snow Queen, curses the kingdom with a perpetual winter. The only hope Anna has for reversing the curse is to survive a hazardous and thrilling journey across the icy landscape with a rugged outdoorsman Kristoff Bjorgman, his faithful reindeer Sven, and a lighthearted snowman Olaf. Anna must race against time, conquer the elements of winter, seek guidance from mystical trolls, and battle a menacing snowmen army if she ever hopes to thaw the frozen heart.

Genre: Action-adventure, romance, angst, historical fantasy.

Some fun facts about the fanfic: - The fanfic’s title was supposed to be “The Snow Queen.” However, many frozen fanfics also had the same title, and because I took my fanfic quite seriously, I tried to give it a unique title. Then comes “Anna and the Snow Queen” but it also had the same problem. Eventually, I played with words (and researched for many times) until I settled with the final one, Anna and the Frozen Heart, which sounds better saying it out loud and fits the story's themes. - The characters are slightly aged up for narrative purposes you will know soon. *Elsa and Kristoff, 22 *Anna, 19 *Hans, 24 - Most of the Frozen art I’ve uploaded here on Tumblr are, in fact, concept art for the fanfic. - A short fanfic, Cursed Wedding, is a deleted scene for an old version of the fanfic, and at that time the story was different. This scene was meant to introduce Elsa for the first time.

I gave the titular protagonist, Anna, much longer hair (or pigtails) to contrast Elsa's free but shorter hair. Still look sweet.

As for Elsa, I really like that scornful and sassy face from Jin Kim's concept art of her, and it suits her. So, there you have it!

Yes, this is Kristoff. He is more of a jerk (teeny tiny spoiler.) Like I said before, the fanfic is based on the early versions of the movie, specifically the 2012 development phase, hence the designs for Kristoff, Anna, and Elsa. Some artworks for the fanfic. Elsa enters her ice haven. Anna and Kristoff on the mountains. If the bottom one seems familiar, then yeah, it's a recreation of an already existing concept art but it fits the story so... I think it could qualify as a "study." The ice palace's gate doesn't seem like the one from the movie, this is because I'm trying to "redesign" the palace (for story purposes.)
