after reading (i think) chapter 50 i realized i have strong crvings for jewish whump characters
have you got any recs? i cant find much. no pressure 馃挍
i don't! i haven't read any other whump series besides my own with jewish characters. to be fair, only 0.2% of people are jewish, and i can see why gentiles might be hesitant to write a jewish whumpee considering All Of History.
i'm so glad you enjoyed chapter 50! i liked putting a bit of my own culture into the story :D
anyone feel free to comment with any recommendations you have! i would like to see them too :)

You can't just let Kane go. That's the first thing you decide. He's a vampire, he was captured trying to kidnap a human, he's dangerous. Just because you want to help him doesn't mean you can just set him wild and hope he doesn't go back to his old ways.
So you've got to take him back to your apartment. Which would already be kind of a fucking issue if it was just you, but to make matters even more complicated, you have your 14 year old son on the weekends.
When you wake up in the afternoon, you start getting prepared. Before you even think about getting Kane out, you need to make sure your place is prepared to hold a vampire, even one as docile as this one appears to be. Especially with your son here sometimes.
You're not sure whether you trust Kane or not, and Greyson's safety is your utmost priority. Not only that, but even if Kane behaves, having a loose vampire would look even worse than having a captive one if the situation gets out, especially with a kid in the house. Having a room to lock him in would be ideal, but you only have two.

"What's your name, before I go?" you ask. Probably best to know that instead of just calling it the vampire.
The vampire looks at you with astonishment. "...Kane, sir," it says after seeming to deliberate for a moment. "My name is Kane."
"Well, good to know you I guess, Kane." At least better to know it than every other vampire you've ever met. "I'll be back with a plan. Sit tight."
"Yes, sir." Kane gives you a small smile through its tears. "Thank you."
You leave, mind whirling with thoughts of what you've just agreed to. Kane needs help, that much is clear. Helping people- vampires- whatever, that's your job. And if no one else is gonna help it...
Him?
Looks like it has to be you.
You get home in the morning after patrol. As you lie in bed, the question you can't ignore comes to the surface:

You've killed more vampires than you can count in your 20+ years as a hunter. But for some reason, the first one to ask for death has you reluctant. This isn't a fair fight. This isn't protecting anyone. This is just... sad.
Still, you feel reluctant to outright refuse either, if this is what it really wants. But before you just jump straight to that...
"Is there anything I could do to change your mind?" you ask. "Let's think about this first before we get hasty."
The vampire stares up at you, face still streaked with tears. "M-make it stop?" it whispers. "Please, sir. I'd do anything for this to stop. I don't care how. Whether it's death, or being left alone to rot, or still being hurt but less, or- or anything else. It hurts too much. I can't do this. Please, I just want it to end."
Its lip quivers, and it eyes the stake on your belt longingly.

You pocket the silver just to get it out of sight, since it's obviously scaring the vampire. "Hey. Hey, look at me."
The vampire's eyes are on you in an instant, shining with tears and wide with fear.
"I'm sorry," you tell it. "Real sorry. I just did it to get her to scram. I'm not gonna burn you again."
The vampire looks up at you with complete, utter confusion. "...Thank you, sir," it says through its tears, wiping its face with the back of its arm. It looks like it doesn't know what to think. "No one's ever apologized before."
You really feel like shit, now. "Well, an apology hardly makes up for... that. But I'm glad it does something for you."
The vampire seems to study you for a long moment. "Sir, I, I know I don't deserve anything," it says quietly. "But can I ask you a favor? Please- please kill me. Please, they won't kill me and I need to die. I can't do this anymore. Please, mercy," it begs.

You turn the silver over in your hands anxiously. You've handled far better weapons with far more surety, you've killed vampires with no hesitation or guilt, but this is different. This isn't combat. This vampire isn't fighting back.
"The... beginning?" you prompt, trying to stall. "What was it like in the beginning?"
The vampire somehow, though you didn't think it was possible, seems to get even more tense than it already was. Its burnt back straightens and it goes still, staring at the wall with wide, red eyes. You can practically feel the fear coming off it in waves.
"Oh yeah, it was a real haughty thing at first. Cursing us out all the time, ranting about how it was so much better than humans, how we should be the ones submitting to it, how it was gonna slaughter us all when it gets free." Brielle gives it a half-hearted kick. The vampire doesn't move, remaining rigid. "It kept trying to attack us through the bars and burning itself, that shit was hilarious. Not so high and mighty are you now, leech?"
"No, ma'am," the vampire says softly, voice choked up with tears. "Please. I've learned."

You decide to visit the vampire before you head out on patrol. You descend the two floors to the building's sub-basement, where it's apparent you're not alone.
There's another hunter already down here, and you hear the vampire's cries of pain before you see either one of them. It's alternating between wailing in agony and breaking from it with soft, pained sobs.
You can faintly smell something akin to burnt meat.
You stall on the stairs.
