Fight/Flight/Freeze
Character whose past trauma activates the f/f/f response in all the wrong contexts and in perfectly safe situations:
when their best friend sneaks up on them from behind to give them a surprise hug. cue shouting, broken noses, dishes or glasses shattering as the character sprints out of the room for no apparent reason.
or an unbearably long and awkward amount of paralysis as they replay horrible memories in their head and their friend tries various ways to get them back to earth.
when a loud noise at an amusement park or fireworks show has them slipping away from their friend group or family and pushing through the crowds to go cower in a corner somewhere alone, hands itching for any sort of weapon, body frozen in a self-protective crouch.
when the fight response causes them to accidentally injure someone much weaker than they are, like a tied-up prisoner or a younger teammate. the guilt and horror that washes through them as they realize that what they did with their loss of self-control mirrors what was done to them.
when the freeze response gets activated in the middle of a natural disaster or a chaotic fight. their teammates are screaming at them to move, to get to safety, but the character just stands there, swaying on the spot, like they can't even hear anyone else at the moment, lost in their own private world of pain.
the way that after any of these, the character might try their hardest to cover it up and pretend they were just startled or surprised, frantically fumbling for excuses even while their heart is still beating a million miles an hour in their chest and their hands still won't stop shaking and they're still fighting back the urge to lie down and wrap themselves in a blanket and cry.

One of my favorite tropes has got to be a sick villain waking up on the hero's couch, initially calm with the knowledge they're comfortable and being looked after, until they try and move and find their hands cuffed above them

Magical healing that doesn't immediately or fully mend everything, that can only hasten or bolster the body's own ability heal, that lends a bit of power and a nudge in the right direction, or tips the scales just enough in their favour, slowing bleeding or dampening pain or fighting infection or replenishing strength, but still leaves the slow remaining process of time being the best healer to truly complete the job.

Noticing Trauma sentence starters
Feel free to alter dialogue to suit your muse!
“That really spooked you.”
“I don’t want to pry, but.. I want you to know I also want to listen, if you want someone to talk to.”
“Well, pretend I’m not here. What would you say if nobody could hear it?”
“Does this happen a lot?”
“Hey, what happened between you two?”
“When is the last time you ate?”
“Is this okay?”
“Hey.”
“This is the third meal you’ve missed this week, are you okay?”
“[Name]?”
“What did he/she/they do?”
“This … hurts you.”
“You don’t feel safe, here.”
“When you look at [trigger], you… what is that?”
“What can I do?”
“You were crying in your sleep.”
“What do you dream about?”
“Whenever you get stressed, you do this thing with your hands. What is it?”
“You’re right, I don’t understand, yet. Will you help me?”
“Should I leave a light on for you?”
“I brought you some water.”
“I won’t judge you.”
“It doesn’t have anything to do with trust. You don’t have to tell me. But I’ll listen, if you do.”
“Count your breaths with me, okay? Ready? One, two, three, four…”
“I’m here.”
“Talk to me.”
“You don’t need to tell me everything. I just want to know how I can help.”
“Let me hold your hair back, at least.”
“You used to love that [item].”

Broken bones, like a clavicle or scapula, that can't really be splinted or immobilised beyond securing the affected limb in a sling and being very cautious not to move or jar the shoulder of the injured side; no rigid security of an encasing cast or splint like that for a broken wrist- the shoulder-blade or collarbone are reliant on the surrounding bodily structures to guard and support them throughout the gradually-healing pain of being fractured and the injured character is moving with the utmost gingerness.

Whump Prompt #1256
Submitted by Anon - thanks!
TW: starvation | disordered eating
If a character has become accustomed to prolonged under-nourishment, they probably won't be "fine" as soon as they can eat adequately. Of course there's the psychological recovery from whatever experience(s) they had, but also their body may not remember how to deal with normal amounts of food.
A few things they may experience when they start eating more (severe cases can be dangerous and require medical intervention, these are just in the "unpleasant" range):
Poor appetite and rapid/disproportionate satiety
Bad stomach aches
Increased lethargy/fatigue, in general but especially after meals
Suddenly needing a lot more sleep
Dizziness/shakiness/weakness if they haven't eaten for a few hours, even if they don't feel hungry.

Bathing in Whump
Ooo the vulnerability! The intimacy!
-Carefully positioning Whumpee in the bathtub to prevent their casts from getting wet.
-Helping Whumpee get in/out of their clothes before or after a bath if they're too beaten up.
-Blood being washed away, revealing huge bruises and scrapes.
-Caretaker carefully carding their hands through Whumpee's hair, washing out all of the dirt and blood.
-Bathwater stained pink from rehydrated blood.
-A sponge bath for a bed bound/unconscious Whumpee.
-Whumper forcing Whumpee to bathe in ice water, not allowing them to get out until they're suitably clean.
-Whumpee obsessively scrubbing their skin raw, desperate to get everything off of them.
-Soap stinging the small cuts on Whumpee's knees and elbows, the already inflamed skin becoming even more painful.
-Whumpee being so tired they almost fall asleep in the bath.
-On the Run Whumpee having to bathe in unclean river water.
-Sick Whumpee having to take a cool bath to break their fever, shivering all the while.
-The implicit trust and nonsexual intimacy of allowing someone to help you bathe, love it!

Caretaker falling apart over what might’ve happened to Whumpee, but deciding to respect Whumpee’s privacy. They have to stop themselves from prying or asking certain questions, knowing full well that there’s a darker, painful, intimate story behind Whumpee’s condition.
Alternatively, Whumpee’s history is eating away at them, and they’re dying to tell Caretaker everything. They decide to repress themselves for one reason or another. Maybe they’re afraid of disturbing Caretaker. Maybe they’re doubting their own recollection of what happened. Maybe they’ve been conditioned to view vulnerability as weakness.
Either way, there’s something preventing these two people from sharing the whole truth about a painful situation.
