Today’s 1.0 lookback is a twofer - An Alliance Reborn.  This was a long cutscene worthy of the extra post (and Y’shtola’s peeved expression):

-Kan-E-Senna calls together Raubahn, Merlwyb, the Archons, and the adventurer.  They now have confirmation that the Calamity is coming, and Dalamud will be the one to user in the seventh Umbral Era.  Despite her urging everyone to work together, it sounds like there isn’t much hope, but Cid arrives in plenty of time to provide a much needed morale boost.

-Merlwyb and Raubahn commit themselves to what must be done, the former willing to weather whatever comes to pass and stay the course, and Raubahn confirms they have the agreement and aid of the Monetarists as well.  Kan-E-Senna, as well, makes it known that she will participate in the rebirth of the Eorzean Alliance.

hearing that the gunbreaker is highly likely to start in girdania makes me think about gunbreaker!kan-e-senna and i just lost it.

amid the snowy lands, she’s travelling with an ice spirte by her side who agrees to entertain her request to be her guide. her keeper is nowhere to be found, and she worries that he might be LOST ( when it was in fact, her who wandered from the path ). nevertheless, she endeavors to reunite with him to avoid propelling him into another wave of panic. what leads her stray was the gobbue she sensed, WOUNDED and riddled with bite marks over its body. poor creature, she thinks, and makes no hesitation to heal the typically passive and harmless being. not to mention, it has a rather cute face, no ? turning to the ice sprite, she tilts her head in wonder. ❛  might it be wise to ask the other sprites if they’ve encountered the keeper on his way ?  ❜    @brumeshot // ( sc. )

her rare departure from girdania and visit to ishgard are born from diplomatic purposes, and hence she’s able to convince her keeper to alleviate his WORRIES ( though he insists on escorting her all the same ) — a kind soul he is, truly. though truth still lies in her inability to navigate the lands efficiently and knowing that her ally nation is currently amid of rebuilding itself, she very much will prefer to AVOID inconveniencing their busied people. after all, she has her own resources to get around on foreign lands. upon stepping her foots upon ishgard, she gazes ‘pon the rich architecture and its grand atmosphere with an intrigued and gentle look. ❛  this is quite a valuable walk,  ❜ she comments happily and turns to the ice sprite who she sought for its help along the way. ❛  and my greatest thanks for your assistance. you’ve been such a great help.  ❜

following the liberation of ala mhigo, she’s borrowing the LIMITED time she has between healing the wounded and returning to girdania to wander and absorb the fine details of their allies’ homeland. the JOYOUS chatter in the wake of the garlean empire’s vanquish brings her in a better mood than when the war began — though her graceful composure makes it hard to tell such differences in her thought and emotional process. much eager she is to learn of the customs of these lands, moreso out of her innocent curiosity than any else. however, she sets that aside when she witness one of her dearest allies ambling in her direction. ❛  ah, how fare you, my friend ? have your wounds been healed ?  ❜

And this is why I always obsessively talk to all NPCs as I progress through the MSQ. You find out so many fun little things.

The Keeper of the Entwined Serpents is one of Elder Seedseer Kan-E-Senna’s three bodyguards (the ones you usually you see when you’re at the Lotus Stand), in particular the dark-haired male Midlander Hyur. He’s present during the portion of the Heavensward storyline in the Churning Mists when Kan-E-Senna visits the Mists Moogles, and in fact he’s the one who laments that the Moogles have the Elder Seedseer sweeping! During Stormblood, he’s the only one of Kan-E’s bodyguards we see when the Alliance leadership is gathered at Porta Praetoria in the Lochs, though there’s also some Twin Adders officers present at the time this dialogue occurs.

What the Keeper is referring to something detailed in the Encyclopedia Eorzea about the aftermath of the Battle of Carteneau:

The Twin Adders, however, would not return to the Shroud for some time, as Kan-E-Senna volunteered her troops to form search parties and return to Carteneau, providing assistance to friend and foe alike who lay wounded - but breathing - on those hellish plains. The compassion of the Elder Seedseer, herself an accomplished healer, would save no small number of men from their fates.

So we it’s confirmed on two fronts that Kan-E-Senna assisted both Alliance soldiers and the conscripts of the Garlean VII Legion, and that furthermore, at least one Garlean defected to the Alliance. Honestly, I suspect there are many more, and my best guess is the majority of those are in Gridania/the Twin Adders due to Kan-E-Senna’s actions.

I hope we get to see the ripples from that in more detail as more MSQ goes alive over the coming months.

i always feel that kan-e-senna has quite an airy feel about her, which is why i personally hc her as sort of an alice in wonderland kind of girl in the past. a daring, initiative girl in her own way that’s different from merlwyb’s aggressive and proud nature. her heart is very opened as compared to many girdanians and elementals ( when she healed and saved a garlean after the battle of charteau ). she can see prophecies, hear the elementals and commune with them. before she realizes what they were all about, she’d be unknowingly drawn to them and is very welcoming of its mysterious occurrences. she’s a curious and ready to explore girl by heart, even through different kinds of people and places. though is why i had a small image of her young self being perceived as somewhat of a ‘ditz ‘ by many people. young kan e senna didn’t pay much attention to her surroundings, only following what her sixth senses lead her and sometimes lead her siblings into panicking whenever she’s gone for a long time though is very oblivious to herself causing such concerns. she likes the freedom to learn more that way, and is very imaginative.  just as with her enemies, she will heal monsters and the people the elementals will reject. as much as she had never been ignoring her early visions and ‘voices’ she hears, she can’t ignore the voices of living beings too. she’s a rebel in that sense, and will go against the elementals’ wills but in a secretive, roundabout manner ( like healing outside of the forests or requesting aid from non-girdanian healers ) that won’t cause the elementals to grow enraged and wreck havoc on the people as well. peace and compromising is still her priority.
