There has been a video that has been going viral recently of a coyote, showing what looks very much like playful body language, ‘beckoning’ an American badger who then follows it down a tunnel underneath a road. It isn’t purely anthropomorphic either—coyotes will sometimes team up with badgers to hunt, with the badger being able to dig out burrowing prey underground while the fast-running coyote guards the exit holes to catch any escaping prey. Though they do not generally share the prey, they are both more successful when working together—and in the case of the seemingly playful and friendly nature of the coyote in the video, may even be quite companionable towards one another.
I love hearing about stuff like this, it doesn’t take much to imagine these creatures as characters and of the kinds of adventures they might have together.😄
