She had seen him in grief before, and she knew she had to watch him carefully now. “I’m sorry.” It seemed to be the only thing to say. Even his best friend couldn’t find the words to comfort him.
“I am too.” Her words meant a lot to him, he just didn’t have the right words to say in return.
Meg was there for him after Jess died. After the fire, after the drugs--- Goddamn, he could use some cocaine right now. “Means a lot.”

Arizona didn’t really know Sam well. Other than he was Dean’s brother. She hadn’t seen him until the wedding. But knew Dean and him were close. And very close to their mother. She had no words to say to him. Nothing she could say would fix it. She could say I’m sorry. So sorry but that doesn’t matter when something is so final as death comes around. But she said it anyways. “Sam…I…I’m so sorry.” She knew that couldn’t be enough. So she was bold and gave him a hug.
Sam knew she meant well. He knew she was being nice and wanted to say something to make him feel better, anything that would help. But the ‘I’m sorry’s he was receiving did nothing to help the pain. He nodded his head to her, almost afraid to answer back. The hug, however, caught him off guard. He wasn’t used to physical interactions. But this--- This was comfort. “Thank you.” He finally said, arms wrapping back around her in a bear hug.
