It tackles themes like religious extremism, fascism, displacement of indigenous communities, the hijra community (which, if I understand, is the Indian transgender community), sexist (how sex workers are mistreated) and racist violence, and hindu mythology, especially the myth of Hanuman. All through the eyes of a nameless young man from the bottom of the working class who wants to avenge his mother, who was killed by the Indian chief of police. To do so, he infiltrates the upper class as a waiter to try and kill the man. He also works in a boxing ring at night, wearing a monkey mask.
It's an especially violent and gory movie, but also and more importantly a story that drips love out of its every pore and it left me feeling a deep sense of peace.
i know monkey man is about acceptance and communal love and everything—- but when they Boo’d christianity before the title credit even rolled???? Eye — was gagged lmaoo
