Bedridden
Dogday x Reader - 300 words
Also on ao3
Several days of running off nothing but pure adrenaline. Your body was just waiting for the crash.
You only hoped it would’ve been further down the line.
You greeted the morning brightly after one warm night spent in your own bed, but were quickly faced with reality upon standing.
Or, trying to stand.
The second your legs touched the ground, you were falling to your knees as they buckled under you, landing harshly on your palms.
Dogday instantly rushes back to you, helping you stand while Poppy and Kissy are quick to follow him, the three tucking you back into bed.
The rest of the morning is a blur of being offered snacks and water, as well as mumbled apologies from your end, and reassurances from your new housemates.
Deep down you knew it was stupid to feel useless in that moment, but you had wanted their first outside experience to be perfect.
Guilt eats away at you the longer you stay put under the blanket.
Several hours pass, but you still won’t allow yourself to fall asleep. Dogday, committed to his role of being your oversized heating pad, has barely left your side through it all.
You still struggle to get up when you think his guard is down, muscles burning at the movement. But you’re kept flush against him.
You huff, but know you aren’t going to get anywhere with him holding you down.
After a while you find you’re content with running your hand over his soft, warm fur, even if the motion is lulling you to sleep.
You groan softly, shifting to burying your face into his shoulder. A hand is brushed over your back repeatedly, soothing aching muscles and allowing you to fully relax against him.
Exhaustion overtakes throbbing pain, finally allowing you to sleep.

A/N: whooo finally posted everything I've written so far for this story ^^ ofc there's more I gotta post BUT we're getting somewhere!
My Angel Doesn't Need Wings (6)
Tumblr media
The feeling of pain courses through your body, forcing you to wake from your unsolicited slumber. You instantly realize you're not in the same area as before or even remotely close to it. It took you a few seconds to remember how you got here, once you remember, the image of that creature watching you from the shadows sends a shiver down your spine.
It brought me here
At this point, it feels like you're wandering aimlessly. Home Sweet Home wasn't exactly welcoming, and the chill in the air made you feel like you were being watched.
So many eyes were on you and this time you knew you weren't imagining it. Sighing happily you open the door, leaving home sweet home the same way you came in, you only managed to take two steps before you're tackled onto the floor and pinned down by a pink blur.
"H-hey it's me!"
Kissy Missy holds you down as you try to squirm away, she was stronger than you had thought.
"NO! NO! LET THEM GO!"
That familiar voice fills your ears, you weren't exactly too happy with her but you're glad she was there to help you.
"THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!!"
Kissy Missy moves off of you and helps you stand
"You're alive?! That train situation wasn't cool. What even happened?!"
You ask as you dust yourself off and straighten out your filthy and now-tattered outfit.
"It... It's a long story"
"Well I'd like an explanation"
It was more of a demand, your guard was up once again.
“You’ve been through so much… you deserve an explanation. Come on.”
She explains what you should've been filled in on a while ago. Nothing in this place makes sense and this just made it worse, you had more questions but little time to spare. Catnap, Ollie, and the prototype were new names you've never heard before, one was a friend but the other two sounded like more trouble for you.
‧₊ ๑˚.・
The sound of a phone ringing catches your attention, hesitantly you answer
"Hey... Hey can you hear me?"
A kid?!
"H-hey kiddo, ya lost?"
You're concern for him was evident, how could a child survive down here? Especially in a place like this?
"You look kinda lost. I don't want you to die- so I'm gonna help you!"
His cheerful attitude made you smile, it made you feel something after being trapped here for who knows how long...
‧₊ ๑˚.・
Ollie was able to aid you the best he could from wherever he was. If anything he helped you get further than you would've on your own. The thought of a kid being trapped down here for who knows how long makes you shiver, it makes you wonder how he even got here or managed to survive for so long on his own.
‧₊ ๑˚.・
"Crap!" Your blood rushes as sweat runs down your face. You thought the schoolhouse would be a safe place to rest if you found an empty room, but you were far wrong.
Ms.Delight was the one who roams around the school and she was horrifying; her damaged condition made the sight of her even worse.
The clicking of heels echoing behind you is hot on your tail.
"I'm gonna make it! I'm gonna make it!"
You chant as you bolt towards the room just ahead. As soon as you make it you notice there's a lever next to the entry you have no idea what it did but you pull it in hopes it still works.
You gasp and cover your mouth, gagging at the terrible crunching sound that fills your ears.
Ms.Delight was crushed under the heavy metal door. The disgusting sound of metal and plastic being crushed would haunt you for a long time.
You move your trembling hand from your mouth and stand there, staring at her destroyed form. You back away hesitantly from the scene and sprint away.
At this point it felt like you were walking in some sort of endless maze, the hallway you found yourself in was odd, it was eerily quiet and the smell of blood was as strong as a freshly painted room.
Did they use these...as prisons?
You scan what you believe to be cells, slowly making your way through the halls, until a voice stops you.
"You..." The voice made you whip your head around, you weren't sure what you were expecting but it wasnt this...
"You're Poppy's angel, come to save us." His voice rasped. He was strung up by belts, he was mangled, filthy, and obviously left for dead. The state of him made your heartache.
"Nothing left to save, not here–" he was abruptly cut off by the weight of his arm hitting the floor. You cut the decaying belt with your switchblade.
"Angel, please–" he pleaded as you cut the other belt and snapped.
"NO!" Your response came out harsher than expected, but it caught his attention. He tries using his arms to sit up and stares at you; the despair in his eyes is as clear as day.

"The amount of death and suffering I've seen here is enough to last all of us a lifetime," you begin as you crouch down to meet him.
"I've been helped this far by those who are tapped as well."
You gently pet his matted ear.
"So now it's my job to do the same. No one gets left behind."
The dog sniffled as if he were holding back tears.
"We have to go, now!" He pointed back at the little toys you both were familiar with.
"Hold on to me!"
"Wha–"
"Please there's no time!"
He cuts you off and you quickly hop onto his back, you two just barely escape the small critters.
You felt terrible that he had to drag part of himself on the floor but it couldn't be helped. You took note of his arms, they were trembling, but he did his best to keep moving.
"HOLD ON!"
You had no time to react, your body jerked as he took a sharp turn, it was difficult for you to properly take aim and use your flare hand to ward off the toys but somehow you managed to hit a few. The tight squeeze of the tunnels gave you flashbacks to when you first got here, you hate being in such a tight space and being chased through them.
"They're gaining on us!"
You shout as you try to shoot another flare at them.
"A jump is coming! Hold on!"
You brace yourself for the jump and your bodies bounce as you both make contact with the platform.
The landing was rough but you're glad you both made it. You two try to catch your breath and you make an attempt to stand, but suddenly you're back on the floor and entrapped in a tight embrace.
"Angel, you're amazing, you freed me, you... You saved me!"
His hug becomes tighter once you wrap your arms around him. "Angel" seems to be a nickname they gave you upon arriving. If it gave them even a sliver of hope, then you didn't mind being their "angel". The giant dog sobs onto your shoulder as you carefully pet him, gently reminding him he's safe now.

"What's your name?"
He perks his ears up but remains silent for a moment.
"My name... is DogDay..." The hesitation in his voice made you question his intentions, but once you recognized him, you hug him tighter and smile into his chest.
"Nice to finally meet you, DogDay!"
As much as you hate to admit it, he was a bit terrifying compared to his animated counterpart that you grew up hearing stories of. But you put aside your fear to comfort the giant dog, you're his angel after all.

A/N: sorry for the super late repost 💀 but hey better late than never! If the format is weird on this post or the others, no it isn't it's just you (yes it is and my notes app is about to explode atp)
Deeper And Darker (5)
Tumblr media
You peek out of the safe room you were resting in, making sure it's safe for you to press on without having to put up a fight. Not a single soul in sight but yours. the echo of your footsteps and your shaky breath served as a reminder you were truly alone.
You played almost all of her little games.
As much as you regret your decisions leading up to this point, you wonder if pressing was worth it.
There's no prize for this and you knew that.
Placed ever so conveniently was a gate with a lever behind it.
"Greatttt..."
Now you're even more frustrated, trying to reach the lever to pull it as useless, you've tried almost everything to get to it.
The sound of a siren blaring stops you, making you quickly move away from the gate.
A pink creature you've seen before reveals itself behind the rising gate, you instantly recognize her, kissy missy. She was adorable in the drawings and cardboard cutouts, but seeing her in person... And alive terrified you, especially after seeing what these monsters could do.
"Y-yes yes!"
You plead as she looks over to the lever, now inches away from you, you didn't exactly think this through, you almost didn't outrun Huggy, and this area didn't have many hiding spots either.
"O-open it please, I-I have to go over there"
She fumbles trying to pull the lever, and finally, the gate opens. She turns around and gives you a lingering look
Oh god she's gonna kill me
You give her a thumbs-up before she walks off.
You enter what you hope is the final game area. It's dimly lit just like the others, but this one wasn't exactly one you were too excited about.
‧₊ ๑˚.・
"What the hell is a pug-a-pillar?"
You whisper, raising your eyebrows.
"It was always so sad to see the kids go... They called me "Mommy" because I was the closest thing they ever had to one."
She startles you, making you jump.
"But they'd come for games, and never come back. They left Mommy to die alone."
She paused.
"Mommy didn't deserve that! But you? You're here, with no one to call for help. So if anyone deserves to die alone, it's you."
You paled.
You quickly snapped out of your thoughts once you heard the sound of hundreds of little legs crawling right behind you.
You hated this game, and you hated that thing! The game was dragging on way too much. The office behind the glass glowed in the darkness.
That's when an idea struck. The lights flickered back on; there were only a few seconds before they'd dim again. You decide to take your chance and use your grab pack to swing from a pipe, crashing into the glass and falling onto the office floor.
"Ah!"
The pain rushing through your arm forces you to look down, and you notice blood;
A shard of glass had sliced you through your jacket.
"Where did you go? The game is over, you won!" Her voice echoes through the intercom. You quickly pick yourself up and rush down a hole, which leads under the office. "You won! Come back and Mommy will give you the code. Pinky promise!"
You swing to the other side of the room with your grab pack. "Mommy knows the game is really hard, but Mommy just decided you won!" She let out a terrifying, high-pitched laugh.
"Come back!"
Her facade finally broke once she realized you weren't coming back; now you had to run.
Your arm is still bleeding; the gash wasn't too deep, but it was enough for blood to continue running.
You gasp, remembering you have something that would now be useful.
"Switchblade!"
Quickly, you took it out of your pocket, noting you had to work fast. You cut away at the bottom of your pants, making a makeshift bandage as you mentally thanked Ethan. The deeper you go, the more you wonder if this is worth all the trouble. The sounds of dripping water and your footsteps echo through the halls.
"Oh crap!" You quickly turn and bolt the other way as Mommy starts chasing you from above. The number of sharp turns, jumps, and close calls was starting to take a toll on your body.
"Come on come on!!" The panic started to set in as the gate you accessed was rising a bit too slowly; she was gaining on you. Finally opening enough, you quickly slip into the room. A machine with sharp spikes catches your eye, and you quickly pull the lever. She rushes into the room, making you back into a corner.
Abruptly, her leg is caught in the machine, and her screams fill the room as she fails to escape the spikes. You quickly cover your ears and close your eyes, turning away from the scene unfolding in front of you.
Finally, her screams of agony stop.
hesitantly, you open your eyes as you uncover your ears.
You tremble as you fall to your knees; the victory was yours once again
"Good riddance!"
You laugh as you weakly try to stand. But, the sound of metal moving makes you freeze in place. A metal hand reveals itself, feeling around and finally taking hold of the dead spider toy, dragging her remains into the darkness.
‧₊ ๑˚.・
Silence followed you once again, but this time it was a welcome silence. With all these twists and turns, you wondered how anyone managed to get around.
Maybe they had shortcuts.
You dismissed your thoughts upon finding yourself in front of a control panel. Taking a step towards the controls, a familiar voice makes itself known.
"Did you kill her?"
"Poppy!" Relief washed over you once you realized she was safe.
"Yeah, she's um... Dead"
"Good, I'll board the train"
she says, making her way into a small vent.
"We need to leave."
The excitement rushes through your body upon hearing those last words, and tears swell in your eyes.
"I'm going home."
Your voice breaks as the memories of home rush through your head.
Taking a seat on the train, you pull out the train codes you fought so hard for; victory never tasted better. However you look around, the silence on the train is odd then you realize
"Poppy? Are you in here?"
The train moves slowly now, picking up momentum, you continue to look around, trying to find any small spots she might be hiding in.
"I was so scared she'd put me back in that case."
Poppy's soft voice came from the speakers.
"But you saved me... You're perfect!"
You smile at the odd compliment.
"Too perfect to lose. I'm sorry. I can't let you leave."
She goes on with her speech until she's randomly cut off, and the train starts to speed up a bit too fast for comfort.
A red light flashes as you frantically try pulling the brake lever.
"Poppy what the hell?! This isn't funny!"
Your screams were probably heard by the whole factory as you shut your eyes, preparing for the worst.
You feel helpless as sit there, bracing yourself for your inevitable death as the train finally derails, crashing into the darkness.
Pain courses through your body as you fade in and out of consciousness. Your body is fighting against you as you attempt to crawl away from the wreckage. For a split second, you could have sworn you saw a creature staring at you from a distance.
"N-no... Please"
Was all you were able to muster out as your body became weaker until your vision was entrapped by darkness

A/N: Sorry for not reposting guys! I'm still sick and I've been a bit busy 😭 but I have time today so ima do my best to repost more while it's still early :3!
I Found You (4)
Tumblr media
In a blink of an eye, the porcelain doll vanishes. You look around frantically, preparing yourself to fight, but nothing appears. You take a deep breath and make your way to where you came from. "It's blocked?!" Something or someone decided it would be funny to block your only exit. Examining the room, you realize the wardrobe has been moved, and behind it was a door! You close your eyes.
"Please take me out of this cursed place" you whisper to yourself, closing you eyes as you open the door.
Opening your eyes, you find another creepy hallway. You could've sworn you heard whispers as you you continue on, looking away or ignoring the bloody toys on the ground. It took a while, but you finally managed to get into the only room that might lead somewhere. You opened the red door, revealing an office.
"The only other decent-looking place in this dump." You mutter to yourself, analyzing the office for anything useful, until you notice there is light coming from behind what you assume to be a vent. You use your grab pack to pull open the vent cover
It was already loose?
You furrowed your brows at the thought then made your way through the vent.
Suddenly, you let out a gasp as you remembered "that doll!"
You exclaimed to yourself; she didn't try to kill you, but now that you were worried about this new possible threat lurking around, you had to get out of here and FAST! The vent led to another room; this time it wasn't so pleasant. You look around for any exits, but–
*crash*
you jump and look towards the sound. "Oops!"
It was that little doll.
"Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to scare you,"
she continued. You feel your anxiety fading.
"I was just trying to get the power back on, here!" You stay quiet as she moves out of the way, and quickly you realize whats needed to be done. She seems nice, but you can't let your guard down. For now, you'll just do as she says; she wants the same thing you do. To leave this place and by the looks of it she's been here longer than you have.
Your nerves prevented you from speaking to her; you've only been able to let out a weak chuckle or a smile.
Pathetic
you reprimanded yourself
it's just a living, walking, breathing, talking doll; what real damage can she actually do?
You sarcastically scold yourself.
Finally you make it to your destination. There she stood in front of a large hole, and you finally spoke up.
"What's with this place?" You asked, and she turned to look at you and replied, "Listen, I'm going to need you to trust me–" Before you could register what was going on, she was gone! Her screams faded as something pulled her into that hole. "NO!!" you shouted as your body reacted on its own, jumping down after her.
This has to be where I die!
you thought as you hold onto yourself as you fell. Your eyes shut tight and your body feels light as you continue to plummet down the dark hole, but the motion suddenly stops.
"Wait what?"
You whisper as you slowly open your eyes, fully expecting to be dead
"OH COME ON!" you shout.
The frustration overpowered the terror you felt; you just wanted to go home.
In your head, you run through a list of people you might've wronged during your life. Surely this is a punishment, right?
Well, there was that one time where–
"A new playmate!" You're instantly brought back to the present as you freeze upon hearing an unfamiliar voice. Your stomach drops once you realize the voice is coming from above you.
"Isn't this exciting poppy?"
That thing was absolutely terrifying, and she had her! She had the little doll in her hand!
"Very exciting, mommy!"
She said in a mocking voice, Poppy looked so annoyed. That weird spider creature made her threats crystal clear. Play her game, survive, get the train code, and leave! Easy right? You shudder as you remember her last words before she vanished.
"Obey the rules, or I'll tear you apart and eat your insides while you're still alive."
You managed to get this far; what will an extra push hurt? Plus, you've got someone who needs saving.
"All this just for a train code," you muttered as you continued. You managed to keep yourself at bay with some stale snacks and drinks you found from vending machines you raided. All this physical and mental work will surely take a toll on you soon; you just hope it's when you finally find a place to safely rest.
Entering a new area, you notice the platform in the center. You walk towards it when suddenly bright lights illuminate the area.
"Welcome to musical memory!"
The recorded voice explains the instructions. "Pfft easy!"
You blurt out once the recording is finished,
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you~" She's here, and your cocky smile vanishes instantly.
"Oh, isn't it amazing? Mommy hasn't seen this place up and running in years!~" You hated her voice and how condescending she sounded.
"Mommy can only imagine how excited Bunzo must be.~"
Bunzo? Another threat... Great
You try to remember if you've seen this character before.
"It's been such a long time since he's been able to play.~"
It's a memory game in a children's factory; how hard can it be?
"To cheer."
I got this!
you nodded to yourself
"To eat." you swiftly look at her.
"To what?!" Your eyes widen.
The sound of cymbals clashing from above fills your ears.
"Oh! That's the dinner bell! Good luck.~" Her voice angers you, making you determined to win her game just to piss her off.
‧₊ ๑˚.・
For a second, everything feels like it's frozen in time. You pant, a smile creeping up on your face after realizing you're the victor.
"Oh. It broke. That's no fun..." You look up at her from behind the glass.
"I win; give me the code," you spat bitterly. "For doing such a splendid job, Mommy has decided to give you part of the code for the train. Look up. Take it."
Your jaw drops as you feel anger rising once again. "Part?!"
You yell at her as if she cares
"That wasn't THE DEAL!"
You bark, only to be greeted by momentary silence
"Mommy was hoping the game could last a little longer. It's ok though. Mommy knows other ways to play with you."
She slips away into the darkness, and you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding. Not only did you come out as the winner, but now you have someone to piss off for fun.

A/N: Last repost for tonight sorry about the spam!
I found you(3)
Tumblr media
Upon entering the factory, you noticed how lifeless the place was. All of the joy sucked out of the place that was nothing but smiles and laughter. "Hello?..." You called out as you scoped your surroundings. "Someone sent a letter for my grandfather; he's no-" The harsh sound of metal falling against the floor startled you, making you yelp as you freeze in place. You take a deep breath and slowly turn around, making your way back to the doors. You reach out to turn the handle- *rattle* "What?" You try turning the handle again. *rattle* *rattle* "This can't be happening!" You say, frantically attempting to turn the handle in every which way while banging on the door with your other hand.
Tears begin forming in your eyes as you finally let go of the handle. You slide your back down against the door and cross your legs once you reach the floor, your breathing is shaky. You pull out your phone and start dialing for Ethan, praying that he didn't drive too far.
Maybe he has some tools that could break me out?
You thought as you fidget with your jacket hem. You thought about what to do next and where to go after this. Your mind would have kept wandering had your thoughts not been interrupted by the sound of beeping. It took a few seconds for your mind to register what the sound meant. You had no signal... Your phone falls to the floor as you bring your knees into your chest as you begin to sob violently.
You had convinced yourself that this was all some sort of nightmare. It had to be! These terrible monsters chasing you in this endless maze, the puzzles, the talking toys—none of this could be real, right? The chase through the vents took a lot of energy out of you; luckily, it seems you were safe for now, at least. That thing you now know as huggy wuggy was the creature you escaped by a hair; even if it slowed you down slightly, you're happy you took that strange backpack. Your legs were sore, and trying to find a place to catch your breath was almost impossible.
"There has to be an emergency exit somewhere." You whisper to yourself in an attempt to calm your rising anxiety. You continue to walk down the catwalks, your lungs are burning at this point. The catwalks felt like they'd go on forever; that was when you saw it—the poppy flower. You instantly thought back to the letter, and now, running off of hope and adrenaline, you speed up your walk. You open a door and descend down a set of stairs, walking in a bit further you find an erreily clean-looking room.
This will all end soon.
You chanted to yourself in your head as you continued. Hidden behind another door was a room; this one was different from the terrifying atmosphere you had grown used to seeing in this place.
The lights were dim, and there were colorful pillows scattered around. You freeze in place as you find yourself staring back at a small porcelain doll encased in a box. You walked closer, examining the doll and the case. You bit your lip, and in a swift decision, you opened it. Your heart beats faster, only to skip a beat once you hear a voice say,
"You opened my case."
For a second, you could've sworn your heart stopped beating...

So It Begins (2)
Tumblr media
You had just finished packing everything you thought you might need, securing the letter in your jacket's pocket. Your parents were away for a few days for some business trip and you had already come up with the perfect excuse for any questions they might have. There was only one person you had to be weary of. You finish getting ready and reach for your duffle bag. But before you can even grab the duffle bag, your ears are greeted by knocking. "Can I come in?" You sigh. It was your brother. "Yeah, hurry up," you call out as you grab your phone.
He enters your room and looks around, then to your bag, then to you. "Off somewhere?" He sounds more concerned than anything. You're both adults, yet all of them still made sure they kept you within reach. "Yeah, I'm staying over a friend's house." You lie through your smile, hoping he'll believe it. Luck must've been on your side today; he came closer and entrapped you in a crushing hug. "Stay safe." He said before breaking the hug and walking off with a small, sad smile. You don't hate your brother; you just hate all the secrecy.
Sometime back in the 60s, your grandfather had opened up a mechanic business creating and selling parts after he started working at playtime co. It was a bit strange especially because toys and car parts don't usually tend to go hand in hand. No one really questioned him after he made thousands seemingly overnight.
Sure, mechanics wasn't your favorite, but it was something you both bonded over. The knowledge helped you when you needed it, that's why the day your father sat you down to explain the change of future ownership, felt like a slap in the face. Especially because your brother, Aiden, is currently studying to be a doctor, a whole different field from what you studied. Since they won't tell you the truth you'll find it for yourself.
The sun was still out; luckily, you had one of your few friends cover for you.
"And you're sure this is the place?" Ethan asked, with fear prominent in his voice. You two have known each other since you were babies; he had your back and you his. You'd think convincing your best friend to take you to a creepy abandoned factory where your grandfather used to work, all because of a weird letter addressed to him, would be easy. At first, he laughed, assuming it was a joke. All that changed once you got into his car and typed in the address on your phone.
"Y/N, I can't let you go in there," his face paled upon the terrifying view in front of you two.
"What if you get hurt? Or lost? Or what if you di-"
"Calm down!" You groan in response as you unbuckle your seat belt and head to the back seat to collect your bag. He swiftly exits the car, his pleas only falling upon deaf ears.
"I get the sleepover was a ruse," he began, stopping you in your tracks. "But do you really need all that if you're just dropping off a letter?" You pause to think for a moment, then you hand him your bag, "you're right." He takes your bag and places it back in the car as you walk to the entrance. Ethan sighs in defeat as he makes his way to the entrance. "You're parents are going to kill me,"
he chuckles, attempting to calm his nerves, pulling you into a hug as if you're going off to war. "Call me once you're done," he said, breaking the hug. He reaches into his pocket and hands you a switchblade. You laughed at the idea of needing one or even needing to use it. Ethan wasn't laughing. "You better stay safe, this place... It doesn't feel right."
He said as he took his leave. You knew you'd be okay; showing up to the reunion without your grandfather might be a bit awkward, but they deserve to know. You make your way into the factory, unprepared for what's about to come.

The factory was cold, dark, and terrifying. You've already made it this far, and by the looks of it, you're already far too deep to turn back now. This factory... No, this hell was something you weren't expecting once you stepped foot into this seemingly endless maze.

Growing up, you we're close with your family. You loved your parents and your brother, however your grandfather was the one who you're closest with. Back then he was an employee at a toy factory that used to be all the rage, he wasnt just any employee, but one of the inventors. As a kid, he used to tell you stories about the factory, the toys, the workers, and the children. In your eyes, it was a wonderland. What child wouldn't see it as such when the way he spoke of it sounded so magical?
He used to make drawings and doodles of the cute creatures, which you kept in a safe place. Those memories will always be cherished in your mind. Though as you got older, there was one question that lingered in the back of your mind, what retired employee has nothing but good things to say about their job? Surely there was something there. One thing your family was good at was keep secrets. Maybe there was a reason; why your parents always monitored you and kept your grandparents at a distance.

This nightmare started the day you were looking through the mail. Boredom had struck you. Sneaking into your father's office, you noticed the small pile of unopened letters.
probably business stuff.
You thought to yourself. Your grandfather had a side business creating and selling car parts which took of quickly. He was a genius of his time. Upon his passing your father was the next to take over. It wasn't usual for him to have a desk full of papers, folders and letters.
You would have left it at that, but an envelope with a familiar name, just peeking out from the small pile, caught your eye. By pulling it out, you examine it. Just as you had suspected, it was addressed to Lance L/N, your grandfather. Looking at the sender, it seems to have been sent from the factory he worked at all those years ago.
"A reunion, possibly?" You mumbled to yourself as the memories came flowing back about his whimsical stories that made you feel like a kid again. A slight frown creeps up as you remember those times, sighing sadly as you open the envelope; surely there's a reason why they sent him a letter. But even so, that factory was shut down years ago, way before you were even thought of. Why now?

The letter was strange; Maybe it was an inside joke between the workers? Maybe my grandfather kept it to himself because I was too young to understand?
Sadly, those questions will never be answered now.
"Everyone thinks the staff disappeared 10 years ago. We're still here. Find the flower."
You reread the letter a few times, attempting to decipher what it could mean.
What if the letter was misplaced. Got lost in the mail? Maybe one of the old guys got the years wrong?
You sigh in frustration as you try to wrap your brain around this. Whatever the case may be, you can't just return it to a sender that probably isn't even alive anymore. But something feels off; there's a reason why they say curiosity killed the cat. You take the letter and put it back into the envelope as you swiftly walk out of your father's office. Surely he won't notice one missing letter, but he will definitely notice the silence that will be brought upon the house by your disappearance.

Chapter 1: Head Tilts
Sitting comfortably at the living room coffee table, you helped Poppy with her makeup. You were particularly proud of yourself as you had finally found porcelain safe paint, and with it you decided that she could use a new touch up.
She sat comfortably before you, her eyes were shut as you painted some eyeliner on her. You were thankful that the paint you had bought was quick to dry, as you both knew that neither of you wanted to sit here for hours to watch it dry.
“How's that look, Poppy?” You asked, extending a hand mirror to her.
You watched as she examined your work, she had a slight cat eye liner on either eyelid, which, whenever her eyes opened helped to accentuate those baby blues of hers.
“It looks beautiful~!” She gasped, a sound of pure delight leaving her lips.
You smiled, happy to hear that she was satisfied with your work.
“Alright, how about…-” you paused, examine the remaining paint vials. “-we do your nails?” You offered.
“Ooh! I've never had my nails painted before, sure!”
You nod, “What color do you want them to be? We have-...”
Poppy listened as your voice trailed off, listing the remaining colors that were left: black, blue, red, orange, pink, maroon and purple.
You watched as she frowned before turning to you, “Do I have to choose just one?”
You cocked a brow back, “Who said it had to be just ONE?”
Poppy giggled, “I'd like Red, Black and blue. Please!”
“Coming right up!”
As you worked on Poppy’s small nails, you two heard the sounds of heavy footsteps approaching.
You couldn't spare a glance up as you worked so you spoke up; “Kissy?”
“No, it's just me, Angel.” Replied DogDay
You nodded, “Ah! Welcome back, how was laying outside in the sun like?”
“Warm~” He cooed, a lazy grin decorated his lips.
You nodded, “I'm glad…” and felt your voice trail off slightly as you focused on painting Poppy's nails just how she liked it.
DogDay approached the two of you, his head was tilted to the side curiously, “What're you two doing?”
“Painting my nails~” gleamed Poppy.
DogDay quietly watched on, his eyes watching as your skillful fingers decorated her impossibly small nails.
“That… looks like fun.”
“It is!” Exclaimed Poppy, “You should try it!”
“Unfortunately he can't, Poppy”
“Why not?”
You pause your work and motion to his hands, “He doesn't have nails”
DogDay looks down at his hands and takes notice of that fact, his brain brings back faint memory of his companions- The Smiling Critters- and how, out of all of them, there were only two with claws and that was Bobby Bearhug and CatNap.
“That's fine-” Poppy's voice pries DogDay from his thoughts, forcing him to look back at the two of you.
“-we can just get him a shiny new collar! Something with his name and a new brighter sun on it.” She suggests.
DogDay watches as Poppy analyzes her now dry nails, she seems quite satisfied.
You turn to DogDay, with an eyebrow raised in question.
“That depends on you, pup.” You tell him, “I won't buy you one if you won't wear it.”
You watch as he takes a moment to think it over, his head leaning to the side just as before.
“I think…” he paused briefly, “I think I'd like that.”
“You sure?”
He nods, “It would be a great way to celebrate my new life.” He offers and you nod, smiling softly.

Chapter 2: Showing teeth
“{Grrrr…}”
He growled, the noise was low and quite intimidating, especially given the size of the creature of which said noise emitted from.
But you knew him better than anyone else, this was nothing more than just a show.
He's all bark and no bite, especially not for you.
“Don't you DARE growl at ME, mister!!” You exclaimed, “You fucking stink!! You need to be cleaned!”
You watched as Kissy Missy approached him with an apprehensive step forward. On one hand she had a comically large sponge and in the other a bucket of soapy water.
DogDay took yet another step back and reared himself up to appear bigger despite being on all fours.
“{Grrrr!!!}”
The growl that came out from his throat was much deeper now, and the two of you watched as he bared his teeth at you both.
Kissy took a step back and growled in return as if to tell him to ‘back off!’.
You couldn't help but facepalm and sigh frustratedly into your hand.
“DogDay- Oskar- PLEASE-!!” You groaned, pinching the bridge of your nose in frustration, “-just let us clean you and get this over with and I promise you'll get treats.”
You watch as he momentarily lets down his guard, his tail twitching slightly as it wags for a moment before returning back to normal.
“Movie night.” You hear him declare.
“What?” You ask, confused, “What did y-?”
“Movie night-” he parrots, “-and I get to choose.”
You sigh, nodding, “Okay…”
“And-” he starts again, but you watch as he hesitates for a moment, pausing for a moment.
“And?” You egg him on.
“Aaand…” he paused briefly, “...treats?”
You nod, “Yes, you'll get whatever treat you want; belly rubs, snacks, cuddles- you name it. BUT FIRST-” you motion to your own sponge and bucket of soapy water, “-you HAVE to get cleaned. You are NOT tracking anymore mud throughout the house!!”
Behind DogDay lays the chaotic wake of giant mud stains on the hardwood cabin floor. Poppy is not far behind, standing atop a nearby stool looking at the large cabin with a disapproving shake of the head.
“This place is a whole mess, now!” She whined
“Yes, and Kissy and I are going to have to clean it up!!”
You watched as Kissy nodded alongside you, the sounds of a disapproving growl leaving her.
You watched as DogDay finally approached you two, hopping into the bathtub with his tail tucked between his legs.
“Make it quick?” He asked
“Oh no, sir, we're taking our sweet ass time getting you cleaned.” You added.
DogDay watched with a frown as Kissy Missy seemingly ‘giggled’, a playful hand placed over her lips in response to your comment.
And with that DogDay couldn't help but let out a frustrated huff as he felt the still warm soapy water splash down onto him, turning him sopping wet as you two worked diligently at getting him cleaned…

Chapter 3: Biting
You watched from your place on the grass as Kissy Missy held the large heavy rope of twine in her hands steady as the large canid at her feet bit down on it hard.
You could hear him growl as Kissy Missy tried to shake the rope loose from his grasp.
In doing so, she would on occasion, raise the rope over his head and hold it there as DogDay held on, his front paws lifted up in the air as he sat on his hind legs, clinging on.
You heard Poppy snort beside you, “He really is just like a dog, isn't he?” You roll your eyes and glance over to her.
“What?!” She giggled
“Seriously?” You chuckle, motioning to him, “It's in his name, Poppy”
You watched as she burst out in a small fit of laughter and you could help but shake your head, as an amused smile formed on your lips.
Turning back to the scene from before, you now watched as Kissy Missy dragged DogDay around by the end of the rope as the other lazily clung on by the teeth.
It would seem that at some point, DogDay had lost all strength to hold on as he soon let go and was left on the grass panting, his tail wagging at a million miles per hour as he stared at Kissy Missy.
You watched your large pink furred friend clap her hands in glee as she approached the large canid and rubbed his face and belly. Practically praising him for holding on for so long.
“I didn’t know you liked tug of war, sweetheart.” You commented, watching as DogDay turned to face you.
“It’s fun!!” He panted out, clearly tired out from all the energy he had spent.

Chapter 4:
And learn she did, though it was difficult at first for her to understand the keys, she soon began to get a hang of it and once she’d gotten a firm grasp on how to play the child sized wooden piano, she would grace your ears with songs all too familiar from your childhood.
“🎼♩♪ ♩ ♩ ♩ ♩ ♭ ♩ ♩ ♭ ♩ ♩ ♭…”
It would seem that this time it was “London Bridge is Falling Down” to shine in the spotlight.
You sat comfortably some ways away from Poppy on the couch reading a book with DogDay’s head resting on your lap, currently he was knocked out, resting after a long day.
Kissy Missy sat across from you on the floor, currently solving one of your one hundred puzzle piece puzzles, she had gotten about halfway with it.
The more that Poppy played, the more you felt DogDay stir beneath you, thinking it was a nightmare you pet him, massaging his scalp with the pads of your fingers. Silently hoping that the gesture was enough to calm him.
When out of the blue, a low sound that steadily rose in pitch emitted from DogDay.
“{OoOoOooOooOooOooo!}”
A howl! It was a howl! He was howling!
Surprised by the sudden revelation, you checked to see if he was sleeping but was greeted by a lazy smile.
You chuckled as you kissed the top of his head and listened as he continued on with his howling.
“Are you singing along to Poppy’s playing?”
The thumping of his tail wag made your answer clear.
Poppy on the other hand didn’t seem to mind as you watched her play with more vigor, her graceful porcelain hands glided across the miniature piano with the same expertise as someone who’d been playing for their whole life.
You watched as Kissy Missy momentarily stopped what she was doing to sit back and listen on, her head softly bobbing to the tune.

Chapter 5: Flicking Ears
So, while Poppy and Kissy Missy had a ‘girls night in’ in their respective shared bedroom with snacks and movies, you spent your evening with DogDay in the living room. The plan has been to watch whatever show or movie the other hadn’t seen when suddenly the power had cut off.
You sat in the dark staring at your cellphone’s screen, unbeknownst to him, you were typing away at one of your forgotten fictional works. Surely you could get something done until the light came back on?
DogDay on the other hand was sat by your feet, eyes glued onto the window outside as he watched the rain pour down heavily. The sounds of distant thunder tearing the sky asunder as flashes of light would occasionally appear.
When suddenly, DogDay’s headshot up, surprised by the act you watched him carefully.
His ears twitched on either side of his head, flicking to and fro, it looked like he was trying to listen for something.
“Whatcha hearing, pup?” You called out
“Shhh…” he silenced, you watched as his expression changed to one of pure concentration.
Intrigued, you put down your cell phone and continued to watch him follow the inaudible sound that only he could hear. Ears twitching as his head tilted, he was trying to locate its source.
When suddenly, it looks like he nearly jumps out of his skin as he turns to face you.
You stare at him with a bewildered look.
“Wh-?”
“Him!” Was all he offered, DogDay climbed on top of you, his eyes laser focused on what was behind you.
You turned to see what it could be and saw nothing more than your fireplace mantle and the two large urns that held your parents' ashen remains, as well as their pictures on either side.
“Dad?” You asked, turning back to DogDay, “Was it dad?”
You watch him nod, “He was saying something… I couldn’t catch just what it was but I saw him when I turned around.”
“Is he there now?” You ask, curious.
DogDay seems to hesitate for a moment, his eyes flicking to something before meeting yours once more.
He nods.
You sigh and turn around, “Dad, leave him be, he’s being good!” You muse, reprimanding the empty air.
When you turn back around to face DogDay you give him a pet on the head, “My dad was always the joker of the family- as my mom used to say- he was probably just messing with you.” You inform him, “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he doesn’t misbehave.” You jest, glaring back at the urn before laughing at the whole situation.
You watch as DogDay nods, nuzzling into your touch before glancing back up at the mantle, he catches a brief glimpse of the same man from the picture giving him a wink before waving goodbye, the figure dematerializing into thin air.
