POSITION PAPER

The world that never was The man-made world which consists of machines and devices aroused my curiosity since I was a child. I used to always keep wondering of how a machine operates and how every part of a machine compliment with each other to function well. As a child, I thought that the creators of these machines must have been magicians who are able to command supernatural powers to make a machinery works. And the reason grows along my age. Despite this, I still believe that engineers are magicians Take a glimpse look around you; can you jot down anything that is not relying to certain degree on the work of engineers? I bet anyone would struggle on it. Because of that particular reason I chose to be on this lane, to serve community with a better technology that will shape the century and change the world. Time is said to be precious because it is irreversible. Others said that it is eternal. But the main point here is what is done today is not tomorrow, and what is in the past cannot be in the present - because time moves. You cannot predict what will happen today or in the future because it is yet to come but you experienced yesterday's event however it is not in your jurisdiction to change that occurrence. That is why it is said that time resembles gold caused by its preciousness. This principle goes well with engineers' life. Time management is not something that you can let it happen by itself, it needs a proper planning. Even though people said that time changes things but, actually we have to change them ourselves. Professional engineer is someone who knows how to juggle many things at one time. They work to enhance welfare, health and safety of all and make professional commitments to boost the wellbeing of society through the exploitation of knowledge and the management of creative terms. But, frankly speaking, I was a student who practised procrastination in my study. I kept saving all the works given on the eleventh hour - this was during the high school era, and in the early life as a university student. However, the hectic life of first year student with assignments and tests educates me that engineers will not just be an idle person but need to devote themselves in acquiring and cramming a brand new technology in physical world. However, what happens if I keep saving all the work till the last minute? Will I be able to prepare myself then to discover some new knowledge? These kind of thoughts that kept wandering in my mind, helped me to get a picture that no matter how eventful my life with works is, I need to get them done once I got assigned. So I decided to make an improvement to my study style. I made a to-do list bright and early. Before that, I need to discipline myself with this new lifestyle as this is how a professional engineer should become, because sometimes we bombarded with so many distractions that will disrupt our mood and concentration. Besides that engineers need to constantly learn new things as technology is always changing. Maybe because of the rapid civilisation, proponents of technological determinisms make a strong case for letting self-accelerating technologies to follow their own life cycle. So as an engineer,I need to keep myself up-to-date with the current technologies - since an engineer needs to have accuracy and vigour.

POSITION PAPER

 Abortion is not totally illegal it's a reproductive right of women No mother would want to kill their own child that's true.But in the case of abortion the question lies in here: "is the baby even a baby?" Legal abortions are usually within the first few months of known pregnancy in a healthy woman wanting to get an abortion. With birth-control being such a big issue both culturally and in government, sometimes the safest thing for the kid is for it to not be born at all. Accidents happen, that's true. Have you also considered that rape happens? If a woman is not able to support, to love, to appreciate and to care for the baby both while in utero and as a born child, wouldn't that baby live a life of hate? I would say that being a mother of an unwanted child or saving the mother by killing the baby are the common reasons for abortion, not population control. With that I say, abortion shouldn't really be debated. It's difficult to take a stance on because of many different reasons- religion, race, culture, "what-ifs", and political stand points. Ultimately, it is neither yours nor my decision as to whether a baby should be born or not. To take such a stance against is to try and govern a woman and her womb. Even if you fly up a woman's vagina in a teensy rocket ship and put a flag with your name onto her Fallopian tubes or the building placenta, it doesn't mean you have a say in what she does with her insides. I truly believe that no woman ever wants to have an abortion in order to kill the baby, but actually takes into consideration all the underlying factors of bringing a baby into the world that they could not care for themselves. No woman simply ever wants to kill her child. Arguments have been made that the child is not truly alive until there is significant brain activity, additionally link between breast cancer and abortion is completely void of any legitimate and sufficient evidence. I think in a rich country abortion is a murder, because an innocent baby can have a birilliant future, why they should be killed? But in a poor country, many people don't have enough money to buy food and clothes for their child, they also think there is not any hope for their child to have a good life in future, they think their child will have a torturous life in future, so they decide to have an abortion. Revised Penal Code to “legalizeabortion in cases of rape, incest, threats to the life and/or health of the mother, or serious malformation of the fetus and decriminalize all other cases where women undergoabortion.” we must uphold reproductive rights to the fullest extent where we champion women’s rights. Our country will be a step closer to women’s equality when every woman who decides to have anabortion is able to do so in a safe and legal manner. We owe such enabling environment to our mothers, sisters, and daughters who risked their health and lives by making the difficult decision to self-induce unsafe abortion and most especially to the women and adolescent girls who were hospitalized, threatened by health care providers, and those who died because of our long-standing restrictiveabortion laws. Our rule of law is governed by secular standards, not religious standards. To uphold women’s rights to equality and eliminate discrimination, women must have access to safe and legal abortion. Philippine law must uphold secular standards, human rights, and public health. We should all should work towards a humane society where no woman should die from unsafe abortion. Making abortion safe and legal will save the lives of women.
