high fantasy lost something, I think, when the typical protagonist became ‘’gruff dude in full leather/plate armor’’ and stopped being ‘’muscular yet somewhat gender ambiguous dude in no pants, titty artfully out’’

Fox News hasn’t just been making up stories—it’s been manufacturing images and video. As the Seattle Times reports, Fox has “digitally altered” images to make the situation in the area seem dire. That includes putting together elements from multiple images to create a misleading collage, lifting signs and symbols from one area to impose them on another, and it means that many of the images Fox is using to present the image of chaos in Seattle … aren’t even from Seattle.
This is why your conservative friends & family are freaking out about Seattle.

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.
On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.
Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

Multi-level dungeon built into the drawers of an old dresser
Tumblr media
The BEST THING I’ve seen on Twitter this week (month?) is Justin Alexander’s thread documenting “The Dungeon of Drezzar,” Peter Heeringa and Troy Wilhelmson’s spectacular multilevel dungeon built into a series of dresser drawers.
https://twitter.com/hexcrawl/status/1252289754479165442
Heeringa and Wilhelmson built an entire dungeon-level into each drawer, painstakingly painted, staged and decorated. It’s intricate: the “tavern” includes a teeny tiny noticeboard where adventurers can leave notes for one other.
https://twitter.com/hexcrawl/status/1252289758505701376
There are effects that span multiple drawers, like a well that goes straight down, and each drawer can be removed and played on a game-table.

But that’s nothin’, because, as Alexander notes, the dragon guarding the bottom level and her lair match the cover of the 1981 Basic D&D box set.

This is so amazing that I am in a state of grace and prepared to meet my maker.
Holy. Shit.

Seattle PD sent seven police cars to arrest the guy who filmed them macing a child and are holding him without bail on trumped up charges of “Unlawful discharge of a laser pointer.”
Seven police cars. No bail. This is retaliation.

Cops are trying to push a narrative that pits protesters against small business owners, they’re trying to ingratiate themselves to seem more liberal by putting rainbows on the sides of their cruisers, all the while violently acting against small business owners who stand in solidarity with the protesters. They are not only terrorizing non-violent protesters (Medics! They’re terrorizing MEDICS!), but they’re carrying on in their longstanding tradition of wrecking LGBTQ+ spaces. Cops don’t actually care about small business owners, and they sure as fuck have never been LGBTQ+ Allies.

“Rioting police have driven vehicles into crowds, reproducing the assault that killed Heather Heyer in Charlottesville, Va., in 2017. They have surrounded a car, smashed the windows, tazed the occupants and dragged them out onto the ground. Clad in paramilitary gear, they have attacked elderly bystanders, pepper-sprayed cooperative protesters and shot “nonlethal” rounds directly at reporters, causing serious injuries. In Austin, Texas, a 20-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the head with a “less-lethal” round. Across the country, rioting police are using tear gas in quantities that threaten the health and safety of demonstrators, especially in the midst of a respiratory disease pandemic. None of this quells disorder. Everything, from the militaristic posture to the attacks themselves, does more to inflame and agitate protesters than it does to calm the situation and bring order to the streets. In effect, rioting police have done as much to stoke unrest and destabilize the situation as those responsible for damaged buildings and burning cars. But where rioting protesters can be held to account for destruction and violence, rioting police have the imprimatur of the state. What we’ve seen from rioting police, in other words, is an assertion of power and impunity. In the face of mass anger over police brutality, they’ve effectively said So what? In the face of demands for change and reform — in short, in the face of accountability to the public they’re supposed to serve — they’ve bucked their more conciliatory colleagues with a firm No. In which case, if we want to understand the behavior of the past two weeks, we can’t just treat it as an explosion of wanton violence, we have to treat it as an attack on civil society and democratic accountability, one rooted in a dispute over who has the right to hold the police to account.”
