Cherith's ShadowClan cat (Hollowspring): We really shouldn't inconvenience them. No, we won't question why they won't let us into the camp--at least our Clanmate is helped!
Kate's ShadowClan cat (Scorchfur): If RiverClan won't let us in the camp, we'll invade! Even if they promised to send a medicine cat, if they refuse, then there's something wrong with them!
Me: Okay, I understand why they're both writing the series. Otherwise, we wouldn't have these wildly different Clan cats and their radically different takes on how to ask for shit from other Clans.
Cherith's Sunbeam: My Clanmate is injured, we have to ask RiverClan for help--yes, this is medicine cat business! No, it doesn't matter if we aren't medicine cats--we can totally cross the border to ask a patrol!
Kate's Sunbeam: My Clanmate is sick, we have to ask RiverClan for help--yes, this is medicine cat business! But we're not medicine cats, so we can't cross the border and ask a patrol!
Me: The editor needs to be fired.

Tigerstar really does prioritized his own kin about everyone and everything else, doesn't he?

Even Frostpaw has this treatment.
Kate Cary's write any cat without turning them spiteful and bipolar challenge failed.
Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary need to share better character notes.
Sunbeam and Flamepaw in Sky are jarringly different from Sunbeam and Nightheart in River.
That's my only real criticism. I really like these plotlines.

The idea that a deputy cannot receive their nine lives because they have no faith in StarClan is actually cool.
In this essay, I will--

I would love if the line of succession was leader -> deputy -> medicine cat. Sure, medicine cats becoming leader should be rare, but it makes sense and harkens back to the Tribe, so at least the Clans learned something from their experience visiting other cultures.
Mothwing's just an issue because she can't see StarClan in her dreams and a leader is required to have that power (and therefore some faith in StarClan's guidance) if they are to receive nine lives. So RiverClan can't pick Mothwing to be leader still, but elsewhere--

I'm just now realizing Sunbeam is a chocolate-and-white cat. Which is strange, because I imagine her as more of an apricot-and-white color.
It's so frustrating to see cats named for yellow-eyes when they are born with blue-eyes. It takes 3 months before the color comes in, Erins, please don't do this to me.

I really wish it was easier to switch between my main and my secondary accounts on this accursed website.
Clearly, I want to reblog for one and post for another. Why aren't these treated separately?
Le sigh. I've been too spoiled.

Because I can't drop this, here are some examples of what have happened since Book 1 to Book 2.
Cherith Baldry's Nightheart: A show-off during assessments, Flamepaw loves his Clan and desperately wants to prove himself as a warrior. He fully believes he is capable and that the assessments have been unfair (for good reason!), and is frustrated when his Clanmates try to help him with things he already knows. No one accepts his accomplishments as merely his--contributing his greatness to Firestar instead.
Kate Cary's Nightheart: Introducing a warrior who acts like an apprentice, failing to listen to instructions, but who is eager to finally be a warrior, though his Clanmates act like he should have stayed an apprentice.
Cherith Baldry's Sunbeam: A sunny, friendly she-cat who is well-liked by her Clanmates and who has an especially warm relationship with Blazefire. She is sensitive to other cat's perspectives and emotions, and constantly trying to help her Clanmates when they have personal trouble--such as when her best friend, Lightleap, who is desperate to prove her bravery after chickening out of going to the Dark Forest, constantly does reckless things that gets Sunbeam and Blazefire injured. Her Clanmates begin to realize that Blazefire and Lightleap are hanging out a lot, which causes them to be a lot nicer to Sunbeam because they understand she likes Blazefire a lot, which Sunbeam quickly picks up on. Sunbeam is heart-broken when Blazefire tells her he doesn't think they would be great mates, but forgives him before the end of the book.
Kate Cary's Sunbeam: Introducing a she-cat who hasn't gotten over her mate scorning her, leading to her being petty and uncharacteristically furious, and who finds constant compliments frustrating from her Clanmates, who seem to be trying to cheer her up because of the breakup.
The fact that I'm able to understand Cherith Baldry's characters so well but Kate Cary isn't is a testament to how bad the notes between these two writers are. They need better communication.
Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary need to share better character notes.
Sunbeam and Flamepaw in Sky are jarringly different from Sunbeam and Nightheart in River.
That's my only real criticism. I really like these plotlines.

So, there's no way in hell that Darktail is Onewhisker's and Smoke's kit.
Neither have white patches in their coat, and neither of Onewhisker's parents have white patches.
It's physically impossible for Darktail to be 50%+ white and also be Onewhisker's baby.

The former, a white dominant odd-eyed cat, and the latter, a odd-eyed 100% white spotting cat.
Can you see my vision?
I am convinced that there is a way to tell apart white cats. As in, which ones are albino, dominant white, or white spotting.
Just look at this cat. Their ears are white, the white skin around their eyes, and their nose is white--only dominant white cats (the ones associated with blue-eye/green-eye deafness) have these traits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even the inside of their mouths are white--Cottonmouths, so to speak.
Albino cats have a reddish pinkish skin and pinkish to clear eyes, as seen below.
Tumblr media
Now this cat below may be both white and albino. Look at the eyes! There's a blue ring in the middle and white on the outside.
Tumblr media
I don't have that many cases of albino cats to share, so my theory remains unvalidated. But please enjoy writing cats with white skin vs pink skin. It'll be fun!
I personally imagine Whitestorm with albinism and minor white spotting. What do you think?

Found a very cool white spotting chart.

I'm a huge fan of the colored tail and ears Van pattern for warrior cats. I've always headcanoned Redtail as that pattern, and it would also work for a tortoiseshell Rosetail, if she had gray ears and cream tail.
But I also love the van pattern with the colored diamond on the forehead. Maybe I'll make an OC with that pattern.

Saw this beautiful picture of a ticked tabby calico and decided to share. This is 100% how Leafstar looks in my head, minus the white spotting. I hope you see the vision.
