'I thought it best to pause surveillance temporarily, given the risk of parties interested in time travel, considering.' He couldn't argue with that logic, and it saved it having to be wiped later. "Fair."

A fraction of a second to essentially stare into the void, at the wall behind Howard, and then he moved; pouring himself a drink as he bit back the urge to say that he didn't need his help, thanks.

But then when he had to take it back later, it'd be like eating glass.

"You would think-" Bottle cap twisted back on, annoyed tilt of the head. "With all the maladaptive imagined conversations we've had, I'd have something to say that's not just super petty. But no, here we are and that's all I got, so--" Glass raised a little before he knocked it back. "I nuked the whole weapons racket from orbit, surprise, dad! Wiped it all out, way before the whole almost end of the world thing."

It was an unsettling sense of UNCANNY VALLEY, having the automatic wait for the hypercritical hammer to fall while talking to someone so far removed from the version he'd known. But then, not quite. Howard had been great at conversation like a normal person, just only with the people ranked important and not a disappointment. "It's like being gas-lit in my own home, not a fan." An aside comment to himself, eyes narrowing before he shook it off.

"Well. Good news, Cap's fine. Spent a few decades as a glorified snowcone, walked it off. Yay." He'd thought he'd thrown out the box of resentment around all of it, but there it was, in the back of his mind like it'd never left. Moving right along. "Not home at the moment. Oh, and a virus that I'm a solid eighty percent sure is alien wiped out a few billion people. Less yay. And yes, I'm working on it." Nailed it. "And yes, I'll get him on the phone the second communications are up."
