“Excuse me, Knight Tyler? I have a report for you m…m-ma'am.” Abelone approached the woman with a stiff back and a salute, beforehand over the folder. She didn’t know what it was or what it was for. It wasn’t her business to know, and she had learned to accept that. So long as she stayed an Apprentice, the chances of her ever knowing the important workings of the Brotherhood were slim to none.

Instead of leaving though, like she normally would, Abelone lingered, fingers drumming anxiously on her thighs. She had heard of Knight Tyler, of everything she had gone through, of project purity, of her “insubordination”. Abelone would have been a liar if she said she wasn’t curious. “—I’m s…s-sorry Knight Tyler, but um…I just wanted to say that I really admire everything you d…d-did back in Washington.”

       Eliana accepted the folder with a grateful smile, tucking it under her arm to be read later. She was, frankly, in no hurry to dive into a report that she was well aware she wouldn’t be allowed to physically follow up on. “Thank you, Apprentice Pinho.” She expected to leave the interaction at that, her head tilting curiously to the side when the other woman remained firmly in place.

      Surprise settled on her features at the compliment; she was no longer used to receiving praise from her fellow Brotherhood members. “Oh -- I appreciate that,” she responded quietly. Part of her wondered what exactly Apprentice Pinho was referring to: her actual acts of “heroism” or the exaggerated tale that Three Dog and the Brotherhood had spoon fed people. “A lot of it was thanks to the Brotherhood, if I’m being honest. They played a bigger role than some of them let on.”

I had a long-winded, awkward conversation with my father about that over a decade ago.” Eliana anxiously ran her fingers through her hair, attempting to will the blush from her cheeks. “Chris and I haven’t even – No, you know what? I’m good.”

“Excuse me, ma'am?” Taras approached the woman, barely managing to contain his excitement. Finally, just what he had been looking for since arriving in D.C.! He greeted her with a smile, adjusting his glasses. “My name is Taras Lincoln, and I couldn’t help but overhear. Is it true you’ve been travelling for some time? If so, I was wondering if I could perhaps join you?” He knew it was a bold question, given that he and the woman before him didn’t know each other in the slightest, but so far Taras hadn’t managed to find a companion to travel with who actually travelled. Or that could tolerate his constant stopping or talking.

“I’m an author, well, I’m trying to be anyway, and I’d like to travel with you, record things for my book series. I, of course, don’t have to write about you, if you’re uncomfortable, just whatever we happen to run into or see.”

She blinked at him, taking a moment to process his request and reasoning. Though Eliana had taken on a few companions in her time outside the vault, she tended to travel alone. His obvious enthusiasm was hard to turn down, though. It reminded her immediately of Moira. She’d finished helping the shopkeeper with her Wasteland Survival Guide a few weeks prior. She supposed, if she never found her father, she could be assured that research was a career well within her reach.

“If you want to tag along, I won’t stop you,” she responded with a hesitant smile. “I’m not exactly the most experienced person to travel with, but if that doesn’t bother you, then be my guest.” Her constant traipsing about the wasteland might as well be useful to someone. “Oh -- I’m Eliana. It’s nice to meet you, Taras.”
