downside of researching folklore is the occasional reminder that oh yeah, women were the literal property of their husbands cross-culturally and could be beaten or killed at his discretion for disobedience

This man was so scared of the possibility of David Tennant being subjected to tabloid rumors that he refused to let David wear a t-shirt and short trousers on screen because a woman had previously worn them.

But when the tabloids are working overtime to smear a 19-year-old actress under his employ, suddenly it's oh noooo you have to ignore the rumors you can't give in to them blah blah blah.

Every day I miss Chibnall more.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.

On the one hand Moffat coming back makes sense in the same way rtd and tennant returning does because getting back old shit is always good for publicity. On the other hand. The reason chibnall took the job was to diversify the production and allow people who historically didn't get a chance to write for dr who very often (women, people of colour, women of colour) to write, direct, etc their version of the show, and apparently spent a lot of time creating the writers room process which wasn't really a thing in the UK before. Rtd taking a step back from that by hiring all his cis white men from pre 2018 Who (or at least, hiring back this very notorious cis white man from pre 2018 Who) feels like a step in the other direction from that. Moffat's been writing televised Doctor Who since 1999. We can give other people a go now.

Remembering when there was so much praise amongst both viewers and the press for One Night (especially Jodie Whittaker’s performance) particularly for how it handled complex relationships between women, between women and their bodies, etc. and then Paramount Plus was like, ‘fuck that, we don’t care’ and now you can’t watch it anywhere because they just removed it. I really hope it can find a new home because these kinds of stories are so important especially when executed with so much care and nuance as One Night.
