i just realized that zaizai mostly initiate cheek and peck kisses, while rangrang initiate the deeper ones and he usually do it when he's caught in the moment and has no words to express how much he loves her.

all those kisses initiated by him are so beautifully shot because you see how beautiful the world looks in his eyes when he looks at her. you feel the moment with him as he fall in love with her over and over again. and he's so overwhelmed by his feelings he had the urge to kiss her.

more duan jiaxu thoughts

i think one of the main reasons i have such a soft spot for jiaxu is because his loneliness (and how he copes with it) speaks to me. i can't say i relate to or understand his experiences, but i do know how intense the feelings of loneliness can get— without even your own self realising that you are lonely. and giving in to it, believing that being alone for the rest of your life is fine because you don't want to burden someone else. also, because you don't believe that someone could possibly power through to actually stand by you, and love you for all that you are. haven't a lot of us been there, too?

for whatever reason, giving love always seems so much easier than receiving it— especially when you're not used to being the one on the receiving end.

jiaxu is like that. for him, being alone became the obvious, the norm, and his past made it even harder for him to open up to other people. he had to stay strong for his parents' sakes– tending to his mother's physical and mental health, and taking the responsibility of his father's bills. and then there's the whole thing with jiang ying. afraid that people would associate him to his father, he learnt to always suppress his feelings— his smile and easy-going nature being the last 'armour' he could resort to, a way to protect himself from the constant hurt and disappointments.

all of it left him with no space to prioritize his own self, and by the time he is free of the debts and living a somewhat easier life, he has resigned himself to the solitary lifestyle; not hoping for any more or less.

and THEN comes in sang zhi, telling him that no, he does deserve more. that he deserves to be loved and cherished and protected too. he deserves to have that special someone in his life as much as anyone else does. this is where hidden love won me over; it's nothing groundbreaking and has flaws in its writing, but the way it portrays love, and the changing dynamics between the two leads, is done with so much heart—and most importantly, i could connect with the characters! which is a make-it-or-break-it factor for me when i'm watching a series.

what really gets me about jiaxu and sang zhi's relationship is the intensity of their feelings. they just.. love e/o so much, and it's evident in their actions and words, in how both jiaxu and sang zhi are always willing to go that extra length for each other.

my favorite instance of this being when sang zhi confesses her long time crush to him— a secret she'd buried deep down and was scared to reveal— in hopes that it would help jiaxu appreciate himself more. bc she was that afraid of losing him. and then both of them crying as he processes what he'd just heard.

like. imagine loving someone to the point it moves you to tears??? there's just something so pure and poignant about that and i couldn't help but cry along with them too
