Orchis anthropophora (Man orchid)
Another species I have growing naturally in my garden.
Pictures 1 and 2 from a local conservation area. Saône-et-Loire, France. April 22, 2024.
Pictures 3 and 4 from my garden (April 22 and April 20). Picture 4 is of a flower i accidentally cut when gardening, and put in a vase inside. It's interesting to see how the conditions inside the house (warmer, no wind, less sunlight), impacted the colour of the flower.

I'm interrupting my series of lichen pictures to present this little slug. It's Doris montereyensis (Monterey dorid). This specimen was about 1 1/2 inch (4cm) long.
South-Western Vancouver Island. March 16, 2024.
I'm not living by the sea and although they are one of my favorite animal orders, it's the first time I see a nudibranch since 1992! I was a bit disappointed by the picture quality but I'm not equipped at all for underwater pictures, so...
Two more pictures after the cut.

Cladonia sp. (my bet is on C. macilenta, but one should never trust Cladonias on looks, and I don't have the supplies here to do chemical tests).

Sphaerophorus tuckermanii (Tuckerman's Coral Lichen)
South-eastern Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. March 12, 2024.
Very successful lichen hunt yesterday! I now have pictures of the seven most common Lobariceae of the area, so I'll do a post for all of them in the future.

Lichenomphalia sp. (probably ericetorum from the geographical location, cannot confirm).
South-eastern Vancouver island, BC, Canada. March 10, 2024.
Today we have a basidiolichen. Most lichens are a symbiosis between an ascomycete and algae and/or cyanobacteria, but there are a few lichenized basidiomycetes. In Lichenomphalia, the alga component is present at the surface of the soil as a dark green layer of tiny granules (circled in red below).

Ramalina menziesii (Lace Lichen)
South-eastern Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. March 10, 2024
One of the few lichens I really wanted to see on this trip, because its distribution is strictly restricted to the western coast of North America. I'm not sure when (or if) I'll be here again, so my priority is these Pacific coast lichens.

On the bottom left corner, there is a piece of thallus with the marginal soralia characteristic of P. collina.

Lobaria pulmonaria (Tree Lungwort)
Lobaria anomala (Netted Specklebelly)
South-eastern Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. March 8, 2024.
I'm always excited to see Lobaria sp. because they do not grow (or are very rare) in the places I lived in (and they are beautiful, huge lichens, too!). And this is my first time seeing L. anomala.
