i think that people should start using “in poor taste” as a descriptor again given it is often the most applicable and clearest phrase when discoursing about media and analysis; sometimes a piece of art isn’t actually THE most problematic thing of all time is is. ​just in poor taste (not JUST in poor taste as a reductive take on potential harm but/and as in regardless of intent the impact is this was an offensive or stupid take/choice)

Hi everyone, my wife and I have been unemployed for three months and rent is due in a couple days. I have a promising interview lined up on Thursday and my wife has an opportunity that opened up this morning, but those won't start having an impact on us until after rent is due. To top it all off, the older of our guinea pigs is almost guaranteed to pass away today, after a short illness, and we have no money to handle her cremation. I know there's so many more deserving things going around right now but if you have anything extra you can spare, I'm linking our kofi here. The cremation & preservation of remains that we got her two sisters who passed previously was, if I remember, a little less than $300 all in, so that's what we're looking to get right now. I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but intrusive thoughts are basically your brain’s (sometimes very upsetting) way of saying “If there were two guys on the moon and one of them killed the other with a rock would that be fucked up or what?”

I’ve personally found that adding the “would that be fucked or what?” part in myself really helps put the more disturbing thoughts we sometimes get into perspective. Helps me say “yeah thar sure would be fucked up” and move on with my day.

It’s not not a secret desire, it’s not something that only occurs to you because you’re a bad person. It’s just your brain deciding to process the fact that it knows an uncomfortable thing exists in the world by feeding it to you in an absurd “what if” with you as the main character.
