🖤🙏🏻🤍 There is something spiritual about performing in a garment imbued with your own design/labor. You feel like a ghost, knitting yourself a skin in order to be seen. Time spent working on a garment converts to energy, actionable upon its wearing. ⛓💙⚙️ Here is another look from my 2018 video “Shark Weak.” The chainmaille armored-vest is a collaboration between myself and the amazing @rebirthgarments . The garment was a tremendous feat of intricate labor on both our parts. Sky and I share a proclivity for creating queer futurist avant-garde armor in different ways within our respective practices, as well as our collaborations. I designed and created the headpiece and pants to accompany the vest and complete the look, furthering my exploration of inset chainmailled vinyl shapes and queer harness-wear. ⛓🧡❤️‍🔥💙⛓ Connecting shapes and materials in my garments reminds me of juxtaposing sounds and samples in music production. It’s a constant déjà vu, with sensibility being the consistent factor. When @rebirthgarments taught me how to chainmaille, I was entranced by the meticulous labor which produced an aesthetic result (a trait I admire across disciplines). I started chainmailling vinyl together in our first @radicalvisibilitycollective collection, and kept up the practice in my solo work. Here is another garment from my video “Shark Weak” that I created using this technique; hand-closing every seam with aluminum chainmaille rings. Making music and creating garments are like two sides of the same coin in my art practice. Constantly riffing off of one another, translating each other across disciplines and senses. In 2018, I designed and created a 5+ look garment collection in junction with producing, writing, recording and performing a 3-song EP entitled “Pocket Monster”.
