You know the worst part about what @staff is doing? They could have done something about NSFW content ages ago. They chose not to. All they had to do was have everyone put in their birthday when they sign up, like most social media sites, and just…….let only 18+ blogs be explicit and make sure they’re no longer able to communicate with 17 and under blogs. It’s that easy.
People have been reporting the cp issue for a long ass time and they STILL chose to ignore the issue. They did probably check THAT post that was reported but that’s it. The blogs with cp stayed running. They never checked their system to see if it was on THEM that cp got past. They just let it slide until Apple stepped up and took the app off the store.
They have a no tolerance policy for hate speech but nazis are still running around, spreading their hate speech. People report them all the fucking time and Tumblr STILL refuses to do anything about it. Even with this new update, nazis are still having a blast all over this site. But staff is flagging pictures of puppies, something harmless.
Tumblr blocks IP addresses of anonymous asks if you choose to block them. They CAN see the person who sent the ask that got them blocked. They can see that it was likely hate. But, they choose not to do anything. Anonymous hate is popular on here and Tumblr DOES have the ability to put a stop to it to make sure their users are safe and “positive” but they refuse to do anything about it.
Tumblr lets sexual harassment slide by. Other Tumblr users send their nudes to innocent people (possibly children since Tumblr doens’t verify ages) and refuse to stop but if you report them for harassing you, Tumblr will take 9 months to respond and they respond with something like “email here”. They CAN fix that issue by blocking that IP address from the person they’re harassing but they choose to ignore emails. Users can block people but if who they’re trying to block has more than 1 blog, Tumblr is the only one who can help but they don’t.
Tumblr has ALWAYS had this ability to change and make this “more positive” but they chose and are still choosing not to. They’re only choosing to do something now because they’re afraid of legal charges and losing money, not because of their users.

Casual reminder to all of those who think the current freak out is just about not being able to find porn anymore:
I recently went through a cancer scare - like a several scans, going to Susan G. Komen center and seeing a lot of pink in my future kind of scare. I did what any millennial did when they got scared by something like that - I came to Tumblr to find other people who may have found themselves in my shoes at some point.
Literally every form of search relating to “breast cancer” came up empty because tumblr’s filters thought I might inadvertently be exposed to pornography in my quest to figure out what the fuck was going on with my body.
It’s not just about porn, and y’all know it. Anyone who has been on the internet for more than five minutes, who saw the downfall of livejournal or the purging of ff.net, can attest to that.
Things are going to get real bad, real fast.

Mundane Update: How to Keep Following Me
I am keeping my blog up and running, at least for a while. I’ll try and keep the continuity the same, but content is going to be limited for a bit while I organize backups.
I already made a wordpress and am importing all my tumblr posts to it. It’s going to take some time to sort through 1015 posts, but I’m willing to try and organize it to be navigable for you.
I also purchased a registration key for pillowfort io, and I plan to do the same thing there once I get my key on Friday (hopefully).
I will try and be barberwitch on whatever platform I’m on because it makes it easier to find me.

With all that has gone down yesterday, blogs like this are still following me. I woke up to gem this morning. I reported and blocked them, but not before some snooping.
At first glance, looking through it, all the photos and gifs just have women in bikinis. No biggie right? No “female presenting nipples” were in attendance here. But looking again, pay attention to the tags and the spelling of certain things:

You know what this tells me? Porn bots have already found a way around the new guidelines.
But Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleson, and many other deliciously beautiful actors are being flagged with 0% NSFW content.
Way to go @staff and @support
You manage to fuck the rest of us while still ignoring the core problem.
