@dreamsofalife inquires: “isn’t it beautiful here, tintin? the air is golden.”
ENCHANTED APRIL SENTENCE STARTERS. always accepting.
Tumblr media
The boy reporter was standing on the deck of the vacation cottage, the ocean just on the horizon, and for once thinking of nothing but the salted air in his lungs and the sun on his skin.
"Yes, it's marvelous, isn't it?"
Tumblr media
He turns to face his friend, smile almost as brilliant as their newfound surroundings. For all he adored, in the Captain's words, 'gallivanting about and getting into trouble' and going on adventures, he had to say that a holiday was very welcome (especially after the last few weeks they'd had).
"How are you settling in, Shy?" he asks. "What is it you want to do first? I was thinking I'd like to take a walk on the beach. Maybe we could go for a swim after lunch? And perhaps the Captain could--"
From inside the house, he hears a familiar BLISTERING BARNACLES! and the sound of the Captain's suitcase tumbling down the stairs. There's grumbling and the sound of heavy footsteps, then footsteps punctuated by thuds as the Captain painstakingly drags the suitcase back up to the top of the stairs. Tintin bites his bottom lip, fighting a laugh, as he continues.
"--perhaps he'd like to join us once he's, erm... unpacked."

@oddlies inquires: regress
(BABY) BOY REPORTER. always accepting.
Tumblr media
"C'est d'accord," the little boy reassures, "I'm not lost. I'm exploring!"
He swings his legs off the bench, his attention returning to the people coming and going on their journeys around the park.
Tumblr media
"Do you think they're all having adventures?" he asks Irene after a moment, blue eyes bright. "It's probably someone's birthday today, and maybe quelqu'un d'autre is going to go feed the ducks."

"Erm... pardonez-moi, madamoiselle?"
Big blue eyes stare up at Shy as the small voice continues to speak.

god's own country (2017) feel free to change as needed.
you kept us up half the night, lad.
if you think i'm cleaning your sick up again, you've got another thing coming.
shh. that's it, there, come on.
wanna get a pint?
don't talk wet. just get on with it.
let's all give you a round of applause, shall we?
might be a tin of fruit cocktail you can have.
fuck's sake.
please don't call me that.
bet you wish you'd stayed in [place].
i hate train journeys.
we're not running a charity for waifs and strays.
try looking further than your own backside.
what are you two in cahoots about?
i've been travelling a long time.
it must be tough for you.
i thought once you lot escaped, you'd never come back.
get over yourself. you're not that interesting.
come on, you tight wad.
we should have a night out.
that's what i love about folk like you.
you can be a right pain in the arse, [name].
will you stop fucking around?
i'd keep a lid on it if i were you.
no one gives a flying fuck what i think.
jesus wept! i'm sick of this.
don't come crying to me.
if you leave it, it will get infected with disease.
it's beautiful here, but lonely.
in my country, spring is the most beautiful.
here i am, love. you're alright. i'm here, love.
you can't go getting poorly and all.
it's all on your shoulders now.
what if they say something i don't wanna hear?
get out of the way, you useless piece of shit.
you gave us such a fright.
you can't throw a rock in most towns without hitting an old lady crying for her children who have gone.
i've been through this before. i can't go through that again.
it's not like i'm asking you to get wed or anything.
get the fuck out of my pub, you dirty little bastard.
don't talk daft.
you should get some rest, lad.
i'm fine. i can cope.
i'm not going for good.
i tried to stay awake, but i was dead tired.
thought you'd be pleased.
you shouldn't have come.
i could make things better, you know?
i want you to come back, with me, and i want us to be together.
i don't want to be a fuck-up anymore.
you're a freak.

ENCHANTED APRIL SENTENCE STARTERS.
taken from the 1991 film, an adaptation of the 1922 novel by elizabeth von arnim. feel free to change wording and pronouns and provide context as necessary. do not add to this list.
“it seems so wonderful and it's such a miserable day.”
“it’s not worth wasting one’s time thinking about.”
“i don’t suppose that means much to you. sometimes it doesn’t mean much to me, either.”
“you look as though you wanted it as much as i do.”
“you look so beautiful and so sad.”
“if you wish for something hard enough, it happens.”
“but no one will know I’m there even if i am.”
“have you ever seen things in a kind of flash before they happen?”
“i’m sure it must be wrong to be good for so long you become miserable.”
“i can see you’ve been good for years, and you aren’t happy.”
“i’ve been doing things for other people since i was a little girl, and i don’t believe i’m loved any better.”
“you must believe I’ve never spoken to anyone like this in my life.”
“i don’t know what’s come over me.”
“you should have been there, my dear. i missed you.”
“that’s rather a depressing thought.”
“god must know an awful lot. why doesn’t he do something?”
“there’s something immoral about all this.”
“all i wish to do is sit in the shade and remember better times and better men.”
“i hope you’re not in the habit of seeing dead people, however distinguished. it’s not in the best of taste.”
“i mean, we’re not businessmen, are we? they have to distrust each other.”
“i want to just sit and not talk and not think.”
“well, it’s very wearing. everyone makes demands… especially men.”
“you look lovely.” / “i know. thank you, name.”
“we could both do with a change.”
“it really is the most extraordinary coincidence.”
“I’m afraid it’s all settled, name. i can’t go back on my word.”
“do you suppose it’s all real?”
“were you ever in your whole life so happy?”
“i promised myself the first thing to happen in this place would be a kiss.”
“we were going to choose the nicest room for you.”
“we were going to make it pretty for you with lots of flowers.”
“you shouldn’t be so independent that people have no chance to be generous.”
“you know, i hadn’t realized you were so pretty.”
“you’re really quite lovely.”
“i was just thinking about cuckoos for some reason.”
“i suppose you realize we’ve got to heaven.”
“i intend to spend most of my time reading by myself.”
“you have the most interesting habit of answering a question with the same question.”
“if i can be left quiet for one month, forget things… i might be able to get myself straight.”
“i’ve wasted so much time being beautiful.”
“what she really wants is to be left alone.”
“soon she won’t have to try… she’ll just be herself without trying.”
“don’t worry about me. I’m just lying here thinking.”
“then i have had all the trouble of coming out here for nothing.”
“we’ve just discovered it.”
“why don’t you like us being here?”
“we just didn’t know about it, that’s all.”
“i’ve written and told him everything.”
“it would be mean not to share all this.”
“the important thing is to have lots of love about.”
“i had this obsession with justice, you see.”
“i’d like to stay here and think.”
“that’s very imprudent and very improper.”
“have you noticed how difficult it is to be improper with no men about?”
“it’s a good feeling, getting rid of things.”
“i want to love name, but not necessarily spend every night with him.”
“i haven’t felt this restless since i was a child.”
“it’s too absurd for someone my age.”
“i feel something is going to happen. but i won’t let it.”
“it’s odd how one’s mind slips sideways in a place like this.”
“if you knew me, you’d know how strange it was.”
“there’s no way back.”
“isn’t it beautiful here, name? the air is golden.”
“you’re here. that’s the important thing.”
“you’ve every right to be angry with me.”
“where else would you meet such interesting people?”
“i don’t want name worried in any way.”
“i like him. I didn’t think i would, but i do.”
“all the advantages i was born with, and i’ve misused them.”
“i have it all. why can’t i hold onto it?”
“you have a gift for happiness.”
“well, it’s like coming home.”
“i mean, well… i don’t know what i mean.”
“i’d believe any place you lived in would be exactly like you.”
“isn’t it better to feel young somewhere than old everywhere?”
“oh, good gracious, child.”
“so you see, dear boy, you must stay here.”
“it’s such a pretty story.”
“i thought you might be bored.”
“sweetheart… i’m so glad you came.”
“you’re right, name. it’s this place.”
“and i’m late on your very first evening. do forgive me.”
“it’s a great thing to get on with one’s loving and not waste time.”
“she sees what we can’t see because she loves him.”
“oh, dear name, we must be friends forever and forever.”
“i couldn’t help noticing how miserable you seemed.”
“oh, what the devil. it’s too beautiful a night to be miserable.”
“all my dead friends don’t seem worth reading tonight. they always say the same things, good things, but always the same.”
“i’m tired of the dead. i want the living.”
“thank you, my dear. i was feeling a little melancholy.”
“it does seem that people can only be happy in pairs, all sorts of pairs.” / “then you and i will be a pair, name. we’re going to be very good friends.”
“the roses are in love in the rose garden.”
“but that’s another story.”

PROMPTS FOR CURIOUS HYPOTHETICALS *  assorted dialogue, adjust as necessary
do you think you would have liked me if we met back then?
if i asked you to marry me... right now... what would you say?
could you ever imagine us together?
what if we're not meant to survive this?
if you found out you only had 24 hours to live, what would you do?
what if your life went differently? where do you think you'd be?
i bet we would have been best friends as kids.
could you imagine a world like that?
would you say yes if i asked you on a date?
what if only one of us gets out?
i wish we'd dated sooner.
what if they don't like me?
what superpower would you choose, if you had to pick one?
i wonder what that would be like.
i bet we'd be married by now, if things had gone differently.
i'll never stop considering the "what-ifs."
have you ever pictured us as a couple?
what does your perfect future look like?
do you think you might see me as more than a friend?
ever thought about the future?
what if we're not meant to be together?
but what if there's only one bed? what then?
if we get through this, what's the first thing we should do?
where do you see yourself in ten years?
if a higher power exists... i wonder what they think of us.
maybe we could try going on a date. see what happens.
i've always wondered if you'd ever look my way.
what words would [name] use to describe you?
what would be your strategy for an apocalypse?
could you ever see me as something more?
if we ever make it out of here, where will we go?
what do you think lies ahead?
what if i'm not meant to do this?
if we get trapped, we need to come up with a plan.
have you ever wondered what our kids would look like?
is there more to life than this?
do you ever wish we'd met each other sooner?
i always wonder what would have happened.
if you could ask your future self one question, what would it be?
if you could snap your fingers right now and be anywhere you want, where would you pick?
do you think we have any chance of surviving this?
i'm trying to picture a world where we get through this in one piece.
what if this doesn't end well?
what if we get stuck there?
if a genie gave you three wishes, what would you ask for?
what if everyone stares at me?
what if i'm not cut out for this?

"OH SHIT, WE'RE TRAPPED!" PROMPTS *  assorted dialogue, adjust as necessary
looks like we're stuck here.
we'll never find a way out in time.
have you tried the door?
try jiggling the handle.
that's it. i'm smashing our way through.
i'm not going to die in here.
we've tried everything.
it's no use!
well, we're not getting out that way.
that was pointless.
do you have any other bright ideas?
this is all your fault.
i can't believe i listened to you.
this is what i get for trusting you.
everything's locked.
there must be another way.
it's pointless. there's no way we're getting out of here in time.
maybe we could try yelling for help?
wait, did you hear that?
i'm sorry. this is all my fault.
they tricked us.
i'm going to break the door down.
maybe we should just wait for someone to rescue us.
they'll notice we're gone. they'll come looking for us.
i wish i had a better idea.
of all the people i had to be stuck here with, it has to be you.
don't give me that look. this is all your fault.
wait! do you see that? light!
that's it! we're getting out of here!
hold your breath!
i found us another way out of here!
can you still hear me?
i'm gonna get us out of here.
keep your eyes fixed on me.
did the wall just move?
it just shut behind me!
that was our only way out!
tell me a story to pass the time.
they'll find us. they will.
once they see we've gone, they'll come looking for us.
i don't see any other options.
try using your shoulder to break the door down.
does anyone have a match?
i still have my flashlight!
how long have we been trapped in here?
feels like we've been down here for days.
you told me there was a way out!
everyone stand back. i'm going to try something.
let's see if this works.
well, we're fucked.
i'm not giving up just yet.
you're just wasting energy!
all right, sound off!
i can't see anything.
ow! you just stepped on my foot!
well, it was a nice try.
not sure what you were trying to accomplish with that.
that's your bright idea?
we're all gonna die.

PROMPTS FOR SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES *  assorted dialogue for eerie situations, adjust as necessary 👻
where have you been? i've been looking all over for you.
where did you find that?
that wasn't here before.
that's it! i'm leaving!
i came back for you.
do you do this often?
if you didn't do it, who did?
i think we're being watched.
did that painting just move?
the locals say this place is haunted.
follow me, and stay quiet.
we need to get to the bottom of this.
something weird is going on.
i don't like the look of this.
this is the last time i listen to you.
i think you should see this.
there's no service in here.
where did it go? it was right here five seconds ago.
did you hear that?
this place is cursed.
they say someone died in here.
i'm not staying here another second.
do you smell something?
get in here! now!
we're supposed to be the only ones here.
those were footsteps.
someone else is here.
last one out's a rotten egg!
who made that noise?
i don't believe in that stuff.
the light's not working.
my battery is dead.
we should split up.
it's too late!
you came back for me?
is that blood?
no way. i'm not doing this alone.
we need to stick together.
hello? is anyone here?
i'm getting out of here!
the locals don't like this place.
looks like we're stuck here for the night.
that place looks creepy.
i don't like the look of this place.
who made that noise?
i don't believe in ghosts.
i'm getting the hell away from this place.
do you get the feeling we're being watched?
that's impossible.
i'm not going into the creepy basement alone.
what is wrong with you?
hurry! get inside!
there's no such thing as coincidences.
i'm not going first. you go.
any volunteers?
not sure we're supposed to be here.
come on! it'll be fun!
remind me never to come with you.
the door's locked! we're trapped!
hide! in here!
no way. i'll stay right here.
you keep watch.
i can't take another second of this.
are you thinking what i'm thinking?
when did this happen?
it's getting dark. we should camp here for the night.
i've heard stories about this place.
i'm not sticking around to find out.
this is bad. this is very bad.
i thought i lost you!
we need to put an end to this.
do you believe in ghosts?
we shouldn't have come here.
let's try the back door!
oh great. a creepy basement.
you go first.
this was your idea.
i don't want to die!
don't be such a scaredy cat.
where does this door lead?
come out, come out, wherever you are!
how did i let you drag me into this?
remind me never to come back.
that was quick thinking.
so that's it?
nothing's going to happen! trust me!
i can't believe you talked me into this.
you owe me big time.
they told me to stay away.
this isn't what i signed up for.
you never told me this would happen.
trust me. i'll get us out.
i think we're stuck.

"I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD DO THAT" PROMPTS *  assorted dialogue, adjust as necessary
when did you learn how to do that?
that was... weird.
that was you, right? you did that?
i'm imagining things, aren't i? that didn't just happen.
i'm going to pretend like i didn't see that.
who on earth taught you that?
that was a bit scary, i have to admit.
i didn't know you were capable of that.
could you always do that, or was that something you just learned?
just felt like you could spring that on me, i guess?
i have... so many questions.
so... when were you going to tell me about that?
i must be dreaming.
i guess i don't know you that well after all.
did they teach you how to do that?
where did you learn that?
so that's what you learned while you were away.
all right. start talking.
you can't just pull that out without telling me!
warn me next time!
that was... that was incredible.
was that magic?
we'll talk about whatever that was later.
a little warning next time would be great.
wait wait wait, before we go any further, i need an explanation.
don't just walk off! tell me what that was!
and here i thought i knew you well enough.
i don't like it when you keep secrets.
next time, tell me beforehand. that way i'm not freaking out the whole time wondering what's going on.
you don't see that every day.
can you do it again?
show it to me again.
i liked that a little more than i should.
give me a second to pick my jaw up off the floor.
you never told me you could do something like that.
you can't just do that stuff and expect me to be okay with it!
so that's what you've been learning.
could you teach me how to do that?
how long did that take you to learn?
i'm beyond impressed by you.
now that's more like it!
that was excellent.
you really are extraordinary.
i've never seen anyone do anything remotely as cool as that.
that must have taken you years to perfect.
show me again, and this time, let me see if i can do it, too.
when we're through with this, i'd like you to teach me how.
i never thought i'd see the day.
my heart's pounding.
you're starting to really impress me.

"THAT WAS WAY TOO CLOSE" PROMPTS *  assorted dialogue, adjust as necessary
are you all right? did you get hurt?
well. we're never trying that again.
that was far too close for comfort.
my life just flashed before my eyes.
i can't believe we survived that.
we won't survive another one of those.
i need a few seconds to breathe.
we got lucky with that one.
are you injured? let me see.
a little warning next time!
we are never doing that again.
tell me when you're ready, and we'll keep moving.
who's not dead? sound off!
[name]? can you hear me? are you all right?
when did that start happening?
just... give me a second.
that can't happen again.
well, that was... unexpected.
i could have used a heads up.
a bit of help would have been nice.
did you know that was going to happen?
i thought we were going to die.
next time you decide to throw yourself into harm's way, bring someone else.
i guess it's time to move.
that was close. too close.
i can't believe we made it out of there alive.
one more step to the left and we would have been dead.
they nearly spotted me.
i hate it when you do things like that.
remind me never to listen to you again.
ugh, everything hurts.
i think i broke something.
i'll be fine. just give me a second.
i thought you said you had this handled.
feel like my heart's about to explode from my chest.
i'm still shaking.
they were looking right at us. how did they not see us?
next time, you're doing that.
you could have told me that was going to happen!
we made it out by the skin of our teeth.
i don't like close calls.
had you just warned me ahead of time, i would have handled that a bit better.
how did they miss us?
i like your hiding spot.
we'd best be moving on then.
enough talk. we need to keep moving.
it's over. we can keep going.
we can't risk that happening again.
