“You should know if the milk is expired. You’re RA now,” she reminded him. It was still hard to wrap her mind around it; suddenly, Noor and Iker were both gone, and the house felt so much emptier, even with the underclassmen still swarming in and out and causing chaos all over the place. “Not that your only responsibilities would include knowing when the milk goes bad, but it is a lot to take on. I’m surprised you took it.” She nodded at his request, making a mental note of the ingredients she’d need. This might require a second trip and a recipe. “Coq au vin, got it. I think I can make that happen.”
As she turned down the next aisle and started toward the fresh produce, the conversation once again wandered back to the subject of Vincent’s recent promotion and her curiosity. “How are you feeling about all that, anyway?” she asked. You’d think that two children of the goddess of love would have an easier time asking each other about feelings, but Carly had never really been close to Vincent, or any of her siblings, really. Reaching out, trying to build bridges, was harder than it seemed. “Y’know, if you ever need help, I’m like, here for you, and stuff.”
Tumblr media
🖤
“If you expect me to know things like that I highly recommend you lower your expectations Carly. I did not know such things before, I will not know now and besides there’s no way Iker knew such things either.” Vincent screwed up his face as the implication that his new responsibilites would include keeping track of the milk. Or anything kitchen related. If his sisters expected him to suddenly become some responsible overseeing person they were in for a shock. The only benefit of this new set-up would be the new found power that Vincent would have for his own needs. “Why are you surprised? I was clearly the right person for the job, I have been the whole time. It’s also as much of an effort as I want to make it. I’m under no false impression that my appointment will be greatly received by the others so I’m sure they’ll be happy for my minimal involvement if that’s the route I decide to go.”
While he was sure her question was trying to lightly touch on his feelings about both Iker and Noor leaving Vincent was not willing to discuss that, not yet and definitely not here in the supermarket. “Like I said, it will be what I make of it. Things are different now and I’m going to have to make some decisions and look out for myself in ways I didn’t have to before. If you have any requests though I will make sure we get them. I can be much more of a thorn in people’s sides until I get my own way than Iker ever would be - which will be to our houses benefit in the future I’m sure.” As he continues to mention his siblings who have left he can feel the sadness he’s been feeling more of recently start to creep in but he shakes it off with a smile. “Also I want to buy some sort of cake. Can we get cake?” He asks, trying to change the subject a little.

Rhys hadn’t read Jane Eyre, and he was sure he gave off that vibe, from his gray sweatshirt down to his scuffed sneakers, but he didn’t want Vincent to get that idea about him. From the way he carried himself to his incredibly polished manner of speaking, Vincent struck him as the kind of person who actually read things like Jane Eyre and its derivative works for fun, not just to impress people. That being said, he did expect the comment about the comics, but he let it roll off. “Don’t worry, I’m actually good on recommendations, although I might be able to give you a couple that might change your mind about the genre. You ever heard of Alison Bechdel? Like, the Bechdel test?” He kept the other book in his hands, though the urge to slip it into his pocket was creeping over him again. “I’ll give this one a chance if I can convince you to look at a children’s book.”
Tumblr media
🖤
Perhaps hoping that the man would take the book was being optimistic but a part of Vincent had hoped that he’d be surprised - maybe he was both capable of getting lost in a pretty simple shop looking for comic books AND able to consume meaningful media that interested the Frenchman (because obviously the most important things were those with the Vincent stamp of approval). He’s pleasantly surprised when Rhys doesn’t automatically put the book back on the shelve, maybe there’s hope for him after all. “I am aware of the Bechdel test yes, and of her graphic novel. There’s a distinct difference of perception between a graphic novel and a comic book though - words are important in that sense.” Vincent’s literature collection did not include many graphic anything but he had read Fun Home once upon a time. “Well then lets see what recommendations you can give me and we’ll see what sort of agreement we can come to.” He commented as he continued to lead them towards the section of re-reads he had been in only once before.

THE SIGHT OF VINCENT BRINGS an immediate grin to her already sparkling demeanor, hands on her hips as she leans onto her skate’s toe stop. “ hiya, v !! color me honored, first of all. ” momo giggles, before quickly adding on, “ i wouldn’t say that, though !! i get to experience more of what life’s got to offer way faster, thanks to these babies. ” she manages to lift a foot up, showing off her baby pink skates. “ for you, my dear vincent ?? i think i can swing it !! as long as you don’t mind the company. ” and just like that, momo steps off of the campus path to join him, planting herself on the ground, clunky skates and all. “ —so, let’s talk !! what’s up, buttercup ?? ”
🖤
There’s a twitch in his face as she calls him V but he lets it slide, something that only Momo could get away with. He was sure the day would come eventually where he finds himself angered by her but as of yet Vincent is still convinced that she can do no wrong;. “I suppose that is one way of thinking about it that I had not although it does imply an appetite to consume as much of what is out there as possible and I’m not convinced that’s something that I have a desire for. I know what I like and that is enough.” The smile remained on his face as he looked from her skates back to her. “If I minded the company I wouldn’t have asked.” What Vincent hadn’t prepared himself for was making conversation. He’s not exactly a quiet presence on campus, he’s pretty sure the majority of people have wished for it to be so, but when put on the spot like so he currently finds himself unsure where to begin. “The phrase, what’s up, is perhaps my least favourite of the idioms carried over from America. The open-ended question that refers to both every possibility but nothing at once leaves more confusion than needed..... Okay that’s not important right now. I guess I just wanted some company and I seen you around but now that I have it I do not know what to do with it. Tell me how you’re doing Momo?”

Ines was the kind of person who needed direction, but at the same time she didn’t like being told what to do. That is why, when her eyes raised to the boy, while the words still echo in her ears, an unsatisfying grin appears on her face. —You’re right, I didn’t ask— after a few seconds, she has to laugh, even if the laugh is short and feels a bit out of place, because she realizes that she sounds like a cocky little girl, like the classic villain from disney original movies. —I mean, why? You don’t know me and you definitely don’t know my taste in books— and the reality was that her taste in books was null, if she was there it was to do her sibling a favor —Charlotte Brontë  wrote Jane Eyre for the girls and for the angels, I’m exactly her demographic — .
Tumblr media
🖤
Vincent’s eyes narrow, a flash of anger appearing on his face for only a second as her response settles on him. It was the type of comment he would have made himself if their positions had been switched but he was never happy to be on the receiving end of his own attitude. Not when he was out trying to pick up his mood and especially not when he was actively trying to be nice. The quick lapse in his facade was quickly patched with a small laugh, a smile full of his mother given charm. “You said it yourself, you’re the target demographic for Bronte’s work and this takes the story to the next level. It moves the lens towards the character that she did not give proper attention in a way that goes beyond adding depth but instead changes the whole narrative that Bronte created. With Wide Sargasso Sea you are given an insight into a reality of the time that was more realistic for the many than that of living in grand houses and the chasing of love the classics like to paint. Sprinkled with important societal commentary that holds up better as releveant to life now.” Vincent pauses slightly at the end of his speech, the charming smile still painted on his face, “But you know, do whatever you want.”

how does it feel to finally have control of the aphrodite house?
The implication that I have not always been the voice of authority and reason within the Aphrodite house is offensive but it does feel good to have my obvious superiority and excellence realised publicly finally.
Tumblr media
Also - it’s good to know that I now have final say on whether or not they can do anything. My beauty sleep will thrive once again.

More Info: Sebastian is the only person on campus who knows what has been going on with Vincent. While in Munich for the hockey Vincent spent some time with his friend’s family, having a bit of an emotional heart-to-heart with Amalia. Not wanting to burden his friend with any of it while he was taking part in such important matches Vincent pushed it aside, joining in on the events that followed the games. Now they’ve been back on campus a few days and Sebastian had asked him to meet him after a robotics club meeting . The pair are sat upon the roof of the robotic’s club and looking at some stars - something that they haven’t done together in a while.
Vincent was laid on his back, a little closer to Sebastian than was possibly necessary, as they looked up at the stars. The heat that always radiated from the other was a comfort against the slight bite in the air tonight. While he should have a better knowledge of the stars in the sky due to the time he spent looking at them alongside Sebastian Vincent barely knew anything other than that he found them pretty. There was something about getting to look up at a clear nights sky that helped to make his problems seem insignificant in the best way possible. Exactly what he needed right now. Sebastian once again able to know just the right thing for him without having to try, perhaps Amalia had spoken to him already. No. When she gave him her word that she wouldn’t Vincent trusted that.
“I know I said before that I got to spend some time with your mum while we were in Germany, which by the way you owe me for. You guys couldn’t have had a game in like any other country no?” There’s a playful roll of his eyes even if both of them are still looking at the sky. “But I didn’t tell you what we spoke about. You know Sebastian, I don’t know if I’ve told you before but I think your mother might be my favourite person.... You’re very lucky to have someone like her.” Vincent’s mind was somehow equally calm and overwhelmed as he prepared to breach the subject of his emotional outburst with Sebastian’s mother. Despite their closeness, the time they spent together and Vincent’s more than mixed feelings in regards to Sebastian they never really discussed serious things like this. Not well at least.

where: some grocery store in athens im too lazy to look up the map on main rn who: closed for @vincenteu
On a Wednesday afternoon, the grocery store was thankfully in a lull, leaving the aisles mostly empty as she pushed her cart with her brother in tow. Carly, being the child of Aphrodite who had the most skill in the kitchen, was usually relegated to grocery shopping and meal planning duties, and Vincent, the sibling who had annoyed her the least this week, had been enlisted to go with her. She cut a glance at him, sure he was probably minutes away from complaining. “Do you know if the milk’s still good?” she asked. “Thanks for coming with me, by the way. I hate doing this stuff alone. I’ll even let you make as many menu requests as you want for all your troubles,” she conceded.
Tumblr media
🖤
Vincent still wasn’t sure if Carly had dragged him with her on this shopping trip because she was worried about him or if she was trying to punish him for something but whatever the reason was he knew better than trying to argue with her. So that was how he found himself trudging behind her through the isles of a grocery store he didn’t even know existed. “Do I look like I know if the milk is still good Carly? I couldn’t even tell you if we have milk in the fridge never mind if it is still good.” He wants to continue to curse her out for forcing him into this adventure when she thanks him for coming. It’s not often that the Dite siblings are willingly nice to each other with their words, it’s usually reserved for the actions that could then be argued were misread if the situation took a turn. “I can’t deny that I was mad that you made me come but I guess it hasn’t been so bad.... My only request is that coq au vin is on the menu. Other than that you know that I’m happy to eat anything as long as I don’t have to cook it.”

More Info: Vincent’s on his new cryptid escapades of talking solitary walks when he spots Momo on her skates and waves her down - somehow the idea of talking with her doesn’t seem to upset him like most others.
After gaining her attention Vincent had taken a seat upon the wall beside him, smiling at Momo as she skated up to a stop near him. “Well if it isn’t my favourite campus skater. Don’t you ever get tired of always being on wheels Momo? Surely life passes you by much quicker when you’re always zooming around the place.” There’s almost a whimsy in his voice as he pictures what that would be like, the ability to speed up the turning of the earth to match the speed she must feel on her wheels. “I hope that you weren’t going somewhere because I would very much like to talk with you for a bit if you can stay still for long enough. Or we can walk, well I can walk, if you can keep yourself to my slow pace.”

More Information: Continuing his attempts to remain as low profile on campus as possible Vincent arrives at the Hecate house looking for Rostam without any form of warning.
Vincent was always surprised when he decided to drop in on Rostam unannounced and his friend wasn’t around. Personally he thought it was not only incredibly rude of him but he was constantly amazed that the man had even left his room and even more so that there were other people around who wanted to actually spend time with him. It was a good sign for his friend though so instead of dropping him a text demanding where he was Vincent turned to leave again when he heard a commotion from the room he knew to be Ophelia’s.
Tumblr media
Leaning on her doorframe Vincent watched as she seemed to be panicked by something, scrambling around her room searching a little frantically. “If you’re looking for a will to live I think it might be a little too late.” He joked as he continued to watch, not stepping into her space in case there was something running about he should be concerned about. “What’s got you in such a flurry Ophelia? Lost something important?” A smirk on his lips as he teased. The nice thing would have been to offer to help but for now he was enjoying the teasing - or he was until there was a sudden shot of what looked like fur dashing through his legs and down the hallway of the Hecate house. “It wouldn’t happen to be that thing that just ran away that you’re looking for is it?”

euvirginia:
mindless wandering seems to be the norm for at least most days. specifically the one where virginia isn’t due at rehearsal, practice, or work. never instances she necessarily welcomes, preferring to stay busy one way or another, knowing that when she’s truly left along to her own devices, things don’t exactly go well. the extrovert needing some type of interaction with others, anything to pull her from the dreaded pit of her inner thoughts. which was why she so easily found herself walking around the village, going from one shop to another, trying to keep herself distracted from the worst parts of herself.
re-reads not exactly being her preferred location to hang out but she usually saw at least one friendly face or two and when that failed, she’d roam around until she found amelia tucked away in a corner stocking the shelves. not usually the friendliest of conversations but it provided some entertainment. though it seemed like she wouldn’t have to search far for someone to talk to this time. as she’s lazily scanning books, index finger trailing along the spine of them as to pick a title that catches her attention, a voice draws her gaze upward. “hmm,” she smiles, shifting back to the book in question before picking it up and literally judging it by its cover. “may i ask why?” unfortunately, a bookworm was one of thing things she was not. her preferred form of reading being plays or fashion magazines. she’s familiar with jean eyre, which would have been her first choice, but his suggestion peaks her interest.
Tumblr media
🖤
Vincent normally tried to keep his distance from the females occupying the Dionysus house - their continued messy interactions with Iker was more than enough hassle for him to have to hear about so the idea of getting accidentally caught up in any of it was too much. Sure he liked them all well enough but it wasn’t worth the hassle that might come alongside getting caught up in his brother’s mess. He’d stick to enjoying the company of Daxton and Ivan.
Today that rule was abandoned as he chose to strike up conversation with Virginia as she browsed the books on the shelves. Was taking a dig at a book he knew to be one of Iker’s favourites a little joke that he was sure that would go over Virginia’s head - maybe but he enjoyed it and that was all that mattered. “I think that it’s depiction of the woman who’s life was ruined by the power of the love interest we’re supposed to eventually revere in Jane Eyre is a more exciting and interesting story to follow than watching someone fawn over him. Rhys is able to depict a story that crosses cultures, and society in ways that for me Jane Eyre doesn’t. Not that I don’t respect what Bronte did for her time but it just doesn’t appeal to me you know? Despite what I’m sure you and many others think of me I do find the stories of those who have been mistreated and such an interesting read. Perhaps a story about how a man can ruin your life isn’t my best recommendation for you though.”

eufletch:
Rhys was hopelessly lost in the aisles of the bookstore. He normally swiped comics and graphic novels from larger outlets, but Re-Reads was a small business, and as such, off limits thanks to his self-imposed morality. He usually didn’t venture in, but today he’d been running low on inspiration, and he’d even come equipped with his own money to pay. But now he browsed the aisles, and a voice next to him made him jump, almost dropping the book in his hands. “Hm? Oh, right, thanks,” he said happily, glad to see it was only Vincent, someone he recognized from the Aphrodite house. His natural instincts made him antsy in stores, even when he wasn’t planning to steal anything, he was still on edge and ready to run. “Hey, look, Rhys,” he said, pointing out the author’s last name. “That’s my name. Sorry. That probably isn’t important. Anyway,” he said, moving on. “I’m looking for comics or graphic novels, actually. I don’t know how I ended up here, but I think I took quite a wrong turn. D’you know where they are?”
Tumblr media
🖤
Vincent had been a little surprised to see Rhys in re-reads, it didn’t quite seem his vibe but he should know by now not to judge someone like that. Not that he would actually stop doing so but you know, the thought crossed his mind for a split second at least. Despite himself there was a small laugh leaving his lips as Rhys notices the shared name, it was something that would please a child but from what he knew of those occupying the Hermes cabin that makes sense. “Well the author’s name does not have much impact on the story no but if that is what draws you in then who am I to judge.” His words were spoken to soon as Rhys admitted that he hadn’t been looking at any of the books on the shelves, not properly at least, and instead seemed to be lost and in search of comic books. “I am unsure how you get lost looking for comic books and while I do not have much of an opinion on them I can most definitely show you where they are. I would recommend that book still, even if you haven’t indulged in Jane Eyre previously. It’s a very good read.” Vincent shrugged and turned on the spot. “Anyway, follow me and I’ll take you where we need to be for your children’s books.”

euallegra:
Allegra didn’t hang out in the Aphrodite house often. Don’t get me wrong, she loved her siblings, but there had been times when all she wanted to do was tear them apart for how annoying they could all be at times. Due to this, it was no surprise to see the eldest Aphrodite child in Re-Reads because even though she hadn’t always been a fan of reading books, it was an escape from the hellhole that was Aphrodite house. “Aren’t all books practically the same?” She asked, reading the back of the book for a summary. “What’s it matter if the book is actually good or not? Every book has a plot and therefore, every book is the same.”
Tumblr media
🖤
Vincent’s patience was notorious around campus but no one had better understanding of how bad it could be than his siblings. He was sure they had probably enjoyed not having to worry about what was going to upset him that day while he was away. Allegra was perhaps the one he spent the least amount of time with but he did know that finding her in re-reads was a surprising turn of events. Don’t get him wrong, he loves all of siblings and holds that connection close but nothing about her screamed ‘I like to read books’ and his confusion was only deepened when she began to speak.
“I cannot tell if you are being serious or if you’re purposefully trying to upset me and literally anyone else in this place who can hear you right now. You don’t seriously believe that just because a book has a story it makes them all the same right? You and I both have stories, we’ve both lived lives, but that does not make us the same and the same goes for books. Two books can tell you the same story and be entirely different that’s the joy of them... You know that right?”
