"I have never," Beatrice pauses dramatically, then sighs - even more dramatically - and continues, "slept with a Denouement."

Then she glances around the small circle of people - all sitting in various positions on the sofa or on the floor in room 641 of hotel denouement - challengingly, and gives a light whirl to the wineglass in her hand.

Jacques sighs, and then slowly took a sip of his own drink.

Beside him, Frank freezes.

Did that mean that, despite what he thought, that something indeed happened that drunken night after all, and the reason J himself never brought it up is because - well, what, he thought they're doing this pretending it never happened and let's not talk about it thing? After the lack of the subject being brought up the following day, Frank just assumed that he has luckily not been impulsive enough to act on any of his hidden feelings.

Maybe he assumed wrong all this time.

Looks like something did happen, but perhaps Jacques thought it just a one time thing, something that they didn't need to talk about and wouldn't ruin their friendship over.

Beatrice's gaze is sharp, knowing, amused. Triumphant. It has "I knew it" written all over it. She looks at Jacques and Frank victoriously.

Frank tries to catch Jacques's eyes, but Jacques is not looking his way, instead glaring at Beatrice.

Frank gives up and decides to glare at Beatrice as well.

But then, something else caught his eyes.

Bertrand was just frowning a moment ago, but then his expression changes, with something close to realization dawning on him in his eyes.

Beatrice looks like she's about to speak.

Frank watches as Bertrand - the cordial and polite Bertrand - tilts his hand, and the whiskey in his glass pours down, spilling all over Beatrice's extravagant purple dress (innest color of the season). Bertrand quickly makes an apology, but Frank could swear that it was not an accident.

It clicks into place for Frank.

He is not the Denouement that Jacques has slept with.

What is your favourite fic that you have written? (Even if it is unpublished) :) <3

What is your favourite fic that you have read? :)

Hi! Thank you for the ask. My favourite fic I've published is pretty easy for me to choose; it's obviously This Bird Has Flown (TBHF). TBHF is literally my baby. I think because I'm constantly working on it, and I'm so excited to continue it until the end (all of which is already planned out) and because I've received such a kind reception from you guys on AO3 over it. I'm proud of it, and I'm really happy that people are connecting with it.

As far as my unpublished works go, I think my favourite is probably one of my Quigley character studies. I never finished it but I just felt so passionate and emotional at the idea (I see a lot of myself in Quigley) and although it never fully came to fruition, I still think I might finish and publish it at a later date because I think people might really connect with it.

Favourite fic I've read is so much harder to choose, because I've been reading fanfiction since 2018ish, and from many, many different fandoms, so I might have to choose more than one, if that's okay. As far as ASOUE fanfictions go, these are probably my favourites, definitely most memorable:

"How many mirrors did you have to crack for luck like that?" by Socks_2789 (https://archiveofourown.org/works/49976557) which is a quiglet fic (one of my favourite pairings) with a mysterious, horror/thrill edge and just some brilliant writing throughout.

"What Friends Are For" by poisonedivies (https://archiveofourown.org/works/23601538/chapters/56635654) which is a fic with a very intriguing premise that I read a long, long while ago but I remember really enjoying.

There's many, many more but I'm honestly just being lazy with not listing them, but please feel free to look through my public bookmarks on AO3 to find some more, I'm sure there's quite a few.

For non-ASOUE fanfictions, probably my favourite (genuinely) of all-time is "the glaciers made you and now you're mine" by melwrites things (https://archiveofourown.org/works/15740115) which is an Anne with an E fanfiction that, god, just really inspired me to start writing fanfiction. It's so beautiful, I think about it and read it far too often just whenever I need comfort or inspiration. I hope this writer knows how much I love it, even from the one comment I left almost 7 years ago.

Another favourite fanfiction is Sober II (Melodrama) by shaekspeares (https://archiveofourown.org/works/30757628/chapters/75914642) which is a Secret History post-canon fanfiction I read right after I first finished TSH and I fell completely in love with it. So complex and tender. Just gorgeous! Could easily be an official sequel, it's so accurately written.

Some People Will Not Believe Me

If it's any consolation, this story slightly embarrasses me because it feels like some fake shit I'd tell younger me to hype myself up in an attempt to convince them it might be worth making it to adulthood.

So, I work in childcare. I interact with kids all the time and being a person who enjoys children's media tends to help me bond with my kids from time to time.

There is a little girl at my job named Violet.

Now, me being me, I asked if she liked A Series of Unfortunate Events because she's in the target age group for the series.

She says yes and that she is a big fan of Violet Baudelaire, though her parents don't really like her watching the Netflix series because they think it has scary subject matter (literally the point, but go off). I suggest the books to her and inform her that I myself have been a fan of the series since I was a little younger than her.

We bond a little over the series and then I physically watch her eyes drift down.

To my left ankle.

And, in spite of my tattoo being the book version rather than the Netflix version, she immediately recognizes it.

She proceeds with a suspicious squint in my direction.

And let me tell you the amount of dopamine and serotonin that rushed into my brain! I have been waiting forever to have a moment like this!

Truth be told, other children have recognized my tattoo and given me this look in passing. Usually in bookstores, once in a Pizza Hut, don't asked questions.

But none of them actually said anything or confronted me and I would never just walk up to some random child that doesn't have some form of relation to me.

But this child was one of my students. And she was certainly going to confront me about it.

And her name is Violet???

Hence begun the world's weirdest coincidence and playful rivalry I now have with a child as she has decided I must be her personal Firestarter Nemesis (all a game, all in good fun).

She has accused me of being Count Olaf to other students. (I even got to pull a "What eye tattoo?" once)

She taunts me that I'll never get away with my schemes.

She loves the Count Olaf impression I occasionally do with my students (I'm an art and drama teacher lol. Fun fact: Kids love when you commit to a bit and are slightly and jokingly mean i.e. "It's time to go home, hun" vs *looks at them bluntly* "Go home." Gotta be able to read your audience though)

Tell me why this child has walked into the facility with fake, giant hundred dollar bills two days in a row giving me a physical "fortune" to steal?

Gotta say I'm doing way better than Olaf because I've succeeded twice (again, all in good fun. She got it back after I got my gloating out of the way).

Point being, adulthood is fucking weird, but occasionally life lets your inner child have some fun.
