TBH one of my least favorite ballad takes (and one that I see fairly frequently) is that Coriolanus never had what it took to be a decent person, never truly loved Lucy Gray or Tigris or Sejanus, or basically anything along the lines of "he was always evil." In my opinion that just completely takes the tragedy out of it. Because that's the point of the story, right? It's tragic. It's tragic because he did have good in him. He did truly love Lucy Gray, Tigris, and Sejanus (and I would say he genuinely cared about other people too like Clemensia for instance) and that's why it's so heartbreaking that he ended up hurting them in the end. If he was always as evil and emotionless as he eventually became, the story loses a lot of its impact. The real tragedy of it is that he did have good in him, he did love people, and he chose evil anyway.

Oh nooo I hadn’t noticed that my cat’s automatic feeder was getting low on food so as usual she dashed off when she heard the machine start but I couldn’t hear the usual sound of her food falling into the bowl so I went to look and my poor cat was just. Sitting there. Staring at her empty food bowl. Then for a second she glanced up at me then right back to her bowl with the biggest, saddest, most bewildered eyes you could ever imagine on such a small creature. I filled her bowl and the machine right away ofc but I still feel a little guilty 😭
