With the Covid -19 pandemic and its impact in the USA, many are trying to reduce their expenses to survive. What is student loan relief?
Student loan relief frees your obligation to pay back the debt used to cover your tuition fees. It does indeed seem like a perfect scenario but the truth is that a small number of people are eligible to apply for such requests. Meeting the criteria and requirements is various depending on the person’s circumstances. In some cases a partial amount of the debt is relieved.
Discharging Student Loans
Only under the condition that the borrower has no control over the events that directly influence his/her ability to repay the debt, a student loan relieved completely or partially.
Some examples of such situations include:
Permanent disability of the borrower

Borrower severely affected by a pandemic
Falsification of the loan qualifications by the school
Death of the borrower
Earning Student Loan Forgiveness
There are two main possible ways to earn a student loan forgiveness. Both ways require you to follow some conditions and meet the criteria.
Working in Public Service
Working in a government or non – profit organization. Volunteer work, military service, medical practice,
By making payments through an income-contingent payment plan for a long period.
New regulations after the pandemic in the USA
Due to the current economic and financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, some regulations were established regarding student loans. However, they are for federal student loan borrowers. Private lenders are a different case. These regulations are from the government to federal student loan borrowers.
The regulations standing are:
Paused Payments

Suspension of interest
Suspend interest accumulations for such loans so that these balances don’t accumulate.
No court orders
No offers for forced collections such as
Garnishment of wages
Tax refunds
Social Security benefits.
Halt negative credit reporting.
Negative credit reporting will be on hold until further notice.
Continual credit receive
Ensure a borrower continues to receive credit toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness, Income-Driven Repayment forgiveness, and loan rehabilitation.
You won’t be charged any late fees.
If you want to keep making full or partial payments during this time, you can.
These regulations may not remain for a long time but with the high unemployment rates and increasing Covid – 19 cases, the duration of the applied regulations may be extended.
How to Get Student Loan Relief in the US During COVID-19
There are several ways to get student loan relief. Your circumstances could be a disadvantage if you have a government job.
Here are the different Loan reliefs you can apply for if eligible.
Teacher Loan Forgiveness
Teaching full time for five or more than five consecutive academic years in an educational institute that is for low – income families gives you the benefit of this loan relief. If you are a full–time teacher and meet some other qualifications you may be able to redeem a teacher loan forgiveness.
What are the eligibility requirements?
The borrower doesn’t have an outstanding balance on direct loans or Federal family education loans.
The borrower must have an employment contract which accepted the borrower as a full – time, a highly qualified teacher for five complete years.
The borrower must have been employed at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves low-income students
The loan for which you are seeking forgiveness must have been made before the end of your five academic years of qualifying teaching service.
How much loan forgiveness can I receive?
The maximum forgiveness amount can range from $17, 500 to $5,000.
It will mainly depend on the subject taught. You get a higher amount of loan forgiveness if you teach subjects like science, math, and English.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness
Employment in a government or non-profit organization can be an advantage when applying for loan relief. The public service loan forgiveness program may be able to help you.
PSLF approves of applicants who are:
Government organizations at any level (U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal)
Or
Not-for-profit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
Closed School Discharge
If the education Institute closes when you are already enrolled as a student you are eligible to discharge your student loan.
You can apply for this loan discharge if
You were enrolled when your school closed
You were on an approved leave of absence when your school closed; or
Your school closed within 120 days after you withdrew.
Discharge in Bankruptcy
In cases of bankruptcy, you can request to discharge your federal student loan. This is a rare circumstance hence the process is not automatic.
Here are some requirements that are needed to have a successful application.
If you are forced to repay the loan, you would not be able to maintain a minimal standard of living.
There is evidence that this hardship will continue for a significant portion of the loan repayment period.
You made good faith efforts to repay the loan before filing bankruptcy.
If you are not eligible for either of these loans you can request to make changes to your repayment plan. You can ask them to:
Lower the monthly payments
Pause the repayment plan for some time
Approved or Declined
If your application was approved you will be no longer responsible to make the payments. However, if only a partial amount of your loan was relieved you will have to pay the remaining amount.
Denied application for the student loan means you will have to continue to make payments monthly according to your repayment plans unless you make changes to your repayment plan.
To conclude there are several ways to Get Student Loan Relief in the US During COVID-19. If the student loan is a federal student loan there is a greater chance of discharging the loan, however, for private loans matters are a bit more complicated as it will depend on the lender.
In the USA you will find ways to reduce your loan partially or reduce the monthly payments instead. If you are still not eligible changing the repayment plan can be of great help too. It is important to remember that the contract signed between the borrower and lender obligates you to repay the full amount and take responsibility.

Which is better, an Executive MBA, or a Regular MBA?
A Regular MBA and an Executive MBA have a lot in common however they have several differences too. Each program comes with advantages and disadvantages therefore instead of comparing the values of each program an individual should look at which is best suited for their current position.
The financial needs, lifestyle, delivery of teachings, admission requirements, pace, and intensity of classes are different for each program. After looking through all these factors an individual can find out, which is better, an executive MBA or a regular MBA?
Both programs are MBAs and cover the same materials however the question of which is better, an executive MBA or a regular MBA still arises. If you are wondering about the different financial aspects and the lifestyle followed by these two programs, this is the right place. This article discusses the main differences between these two MBA programs and how the choice depends on the individual’s circumstances.
What is an MBA?
The Master of Business Administration is a degree that has been introduced in the 20th century. It is considered a professional degree. This degree covers areas such as
Accounting
Statistics
Human Resources
Business Communication
Business Laws
Business Ethics
Business Strategy
Finance
Economics
Management
Entrepreneurship
Marketing
There are MBA programs that focus on particular areas:
Master of Economics
Master of Finance
Master of Accountancy
Master of Science in Marketing
Master of Science in Management
Why should you do an MBA?
MBA is a great choice for further studies or learning how to manage a business as a beginner. MBAs can be challenging in every aspect of a business career however it is not as difficult to graduate. Once you graduate you will have higher qualifications and therefore more demand.
Here are some reasons why one should complete an MBA program:
Develop Skills
Helps you develop skills that are required for operating a company or starting one.
An MBA program will teach how to:
Improve leadership skill
Improve management skills
Profit from your products and services
Networking
Overcome crisis in business
Keeping the company financially stable
Have a positive image on consumers and consumers to be
Managing data
Managing employees and improving their skills
Make difficult decisions
Business Network
Networking experience is very valuable for one’s business career. An MBA program provides the opportunity to meet different people with similar interests, which gives one a wider outlook.
Salary Boosts
Without a doubt, MBA boosts up your career to the next level. According to research MBAs can increase your salary by almost 50%. MBA graduates have one of the highest-paying jobs.
Starting from a scratch
Starting a business on your own can be quite overwhelming. If you have the right plan and preparation you will be more confident which will also be a contribution to your companies success. The skills taught in an MBA course would help you understand the basics of the business, which is important when you are starting your own company from a scratch.
You can study part-time or online
There are different kinds of MBA programs, individuals can choose the most suitable one for them
Part-time MBA – 3 to 4 years
Full – time MBA – 2 years
Executive MBA – 2 years
Older people are welcome
MBA programs accept older students. Universities do have an acceptable age range for MBA programs. A lot of the students are 40 years and above.
What is a Regular MBA?
A regular MBA program is usually two – years long. There is an option where the student can choose to complete the two-year program in 3 or 4 years. Students will be going through the same materials but with a freer schedule. This part-time MBA is particularly for students who are working part-time during their MBA.
Choosing to do a full–time MBA program will keep students quite busy and will make it difficult to work. Students may lose focus on their studies as well as experience fatigue if they work.
A student does not require many work experiences to apply for a regular MBA degree. Students’ acceptance of the program will depend more on the admission test.
What is an Executive MBA?
An EMBA stands for an Executive Master of Business Administration. It is also a two – year program. It is mainly for Business Executives that have five or more years of professional experience in the related fields.
As this program requires years of experience the students in an Executive MBA program consist of an older age group. Unlike a regular MBA, you can continue your full – time job as you take EMBA classes. Classes in an Executive MBA program usually take place on weekends or Fridays.
The teachings and the same syllabus is covered. Classes are usually longer hours so the schedule can be compressed to a shorter number of days. Executive MBA programs are designed to focus less on the basics of business and more on the details.
The program tries to maintain the same classmates to improve networking. It is meant to improve a current leader while MBA prepares the younger students to enter a business career.
Main differences between Regular and Executive MBA
Even though MBA and Executive MBAs are offered all around the world many people seem to be unaware of their differences. These two programs have quite several differences and are meant for different people. The materials may be the same however the way of teaching is completely different which leads to other differences including application requirements, duration, and pace, lifestyle
1. Application Requirements
Just like any university program, both programs require recommendation letters. International students will need to do a TOEFL test as subjects are taught in English.
Regular MBA
Regular MBA programs put much emphasis on the GMAT score (Graduate Management Admission Test ). The student needs to obtain a minimum score of 600. Prestigious Universities do not accept students who score below 700 in GMAT. Having more experience in the work field is an obvious advantage however only 3 years of work experience is required to enrol for a regular MBA course.
Executive MBA
Required 5 or more years of professional working experience
As mentioned earlier, Executive MBA programs focus less on the business basics. If you have professional working experience in related fields, like management, you will not need to cover the basics with your professor. Applicants usually have strong business knowledge due to their experience therefore do not require to sit for any entrance exams. It may vary from university to university.
2. Duration and pace
Regular MBA
Normally MBAs around the world are two-year courses. Some universities may offer a one-year MBA as well. Students who are in full–time MBA programs will have a tight schedule and no time for a part-time job. However, there are part-time MBAs where the schedule is stretched out to a three to a four-year course. This will enable students to work part-time and study.
Executive MBA
Executive MBA follows the same duration as a full-time MBA program. Although the lengths of the programs are the same their weekly schedules differ. Executive MBAs are a part-time study course therefore allows students to work full – time. As most of the students are working the lessons are carried out on evenings or weekends. Most classes are held online however the classes are long and intense. This way the professors can cover the material within a short number of classes and avoid any distractions in the students’ current jobs.
3. Electives and Topics
MBA students have a lot more options to choose their electives compared to Executive MBA students. Universities offer a range of topics for MBA courses where Executive MBA programs offer a few. However, some universities offer Executive MBAs that specialize in certain fields.
4. Fees
Regular MBA
The fees are for a Regular MBA is slightly lower compared to an Executive MBA program. Besides tuition fees, there are other expenses like accommodation. Several Universities offer scholarships depending on their scores, experience, etc.
Executive MBA
In a lot of cases, employers are willing to cover the employees Executive MBA tuition fees. When employers are interested in the employee’s skills and believe they can improve to benefit the company, they cover the tuition fees. The student must agree to the company’s terms and conditions like staying committed to the company for a particular number of years. However, it is rare to be funded by employers nowadays hence the scholarships offered have increased.
Since Executive MBA students are working full – time the fees are not as much of a concern as it is for regular MBA students.
5. Lifestyle
Regular MBA
Regular MBAs will give you a student life experience like
Living on campus
Working with classmates regularly
Participating in extra curriculum activities like clubs and events
Social experiences
You should choose a regular MBA if you are expecting such experiences.
Executive MBA
EMBA is more for networking in a small group. Networking means sharing ideas with people in the same profession.
You will encounter experiences like :
Less interaction with classmates
Meeting every week
Formal and Informal Networking
Networking is a very good experience that will be useful in your career.
Which is better, an Executive MBA, or a regular MBA?
This answer can vary from situation to situation. However, if you are confident about your basics an Executive MBA program will be beneficial for you. If you are lacking experience and basics of business you should consider a regular MBA.
The materials covered will be the same for each course but how the information is delivered will be different.
If the individual:
Has enough amount of professional experience
Believes that their basics of business are solid
Has a full-time job
Can free up their weekends and evenings for classes
Does not expect much of a social experience
Wants to focus on networking
Can keep up with long and intense classes
The individual is most likely suited for an Executive MBA.
If the individual:
Has little experience
Wants to polish their basics of business
Can cover the costs without a job
Can keep up with the tight schedule
Wants to enjoy student life and participate in school events
Expects to have a friend group
The individual is more likely suited for a regular MBA.
If the student is not able to afford the tuition fees without a job but still desires all the points mentioned above they can do a part-time MBA. However, it will take an extra year or two.
In the end, both programs are expected to increase your salary, both programs will allow you to develop many skills, both programs will cover the same materials. You should see which is more suitable for you, an Executive MBA, or a regular MBA.

Why Study in Community Colleges in the US: Know the best and most affordable community colleges in United States
Studying at community college before getting admitted to a big university is now a popular choice of international as well as local students.  Affordable community colleges offer two years of programs mainly on Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree.  These colleges have vocational and technical programs and here students can get associate’s degrees, certificates as well as other professional training without crushing themselves under loan and debt.  In the 2018-19 year, approximately eight million students get admitted to community colleges at least in one subject.
What is a community college?
Community colleges are public institutions that offer tertiary education under two year’s program. In the United States, community colleges are also known as Junior colleges. Community colleges have close links with secondary school, community groups, and local employers. Many community colleges have multiple campuses with an urban, suburban, or rural setting.  According to estimation in 2019 there were 941 community colleges in the US.
Difference between 2 years of community colleges and 4 years of university
Time and process
The first and foremost difference between two years community college and 4 years university is the time to complete the course and the education process. In a four years school, students take general education and theory-based education as per school requirements. But two years degrees of community colleges focus mainly on core classes and tend to provide practical experiences and opportunities to apply the knowledge.
Cost
The cost of two years of community college is lower than four years school. The tuition fee is almost half in community colleges. Besides, many community colleges offer financial aid and scholarship for students and talented candidates.
School environment
Four years universities have a larger number of students than community colleges. In four years schools a student might consider himself/herself just a number. But a community college is much more flexible.  Community colleges offer personal help and one to one interaction with students.
Why study in community college?
There are numerous benefits of community colleges and many international students are taking admission to community colleges.
Save money
One of the greatest benefits of community colleges is reasonable tuition fees. In 2015 President Barack Obama proposed to make many community colleges free for residents. Although the tuition fees of these 2 years schools may vary, still it’s low than four years school.  So many international students as well as local students choose community colleges.
Personal attention
While a large number of students get enrolled in a four years school, in a community college comparatively fewer students get admission and receive personal attention. Small-sized class, one –one assistance, and opportunities to study on different subjects attract many international and local students to get admitted to community colleges.
Flexible opportunity for credit transfer
Studying in a community college can create a limitless path to continue education at a four years university. Many community colleges have special agreements with four years colleges and universities. Under this 2+2 agreement, students can transfer credits and degrees to a four years institution after completing their study in the community college.  It is not only the cheapest route of earning four years bachelor’s degree but also the flexibility accommodates learners with a wide range of backgrounds.

A Guide to Study in Top MBA Colleges in USA without Work Experience
Getting admission in MBA right after the undergrad is rare but possible. It is true maximum MBA applicants gain work experience before applying for this degree but some get admission without any work experience. In some cases, universities also offer Deferred MBA for ambitious applicants. Deferred MBA is securing a seat in the desired MBA program before gaining the required experience and only after gaining experience they can start the program. So practically there is no difference between a regular MBA and a deferred MBA except early admission allows eligible students to use the time to gain experience before starting the course.
The MBA program is an expensive investment and this decision should be taken with patience and guidance. The following article is a guide to top MBA colleges in the USA without work experience. Before making any decisions read the guideline and take your decision wisely.
MBA admission official would like to see your growth and improvement in the job sector. Besides competition in the deferred process is higher and only a few selected students get a chance to go through this process. On the websites of different universities and colleges, you may find something regarding this. If you do not have any experience and want to go through this process, they will look for discipline, leadership and might add a minimum experience requirement. So before applying think about what are your impressive qualities?
Top MBA colleges in USA without work experience:
Here are the list and details of some top MBA colleges in USA who accept fresher.
Harvard Business School
Harvard business school offers 2+2 deferred programs for fresher. This program allows students from the final year of undergrad or masters to secure a seat in the MBA program.
The conditions to apply
1.       Students only from bachelor/ joint bachelor/graduate programs are allowed to apply.
2.       Applicants who do not have any full-time work experience can apply (internship/ co/cops are not counted)
Once admitted, candidates first need to work for two years in the private, public, or nonprofit sector, before starting the 2 years MBA program.
Stanford University
To be eligible of Stanford GBS deferred MBA program
Applicant must be part of the final year of bachelor/ joint bachelor degree
If the applicant is currently a student of any graduate program, he/she must be enrolled there immediately after the undergrad.
Good GMAT score
Requesting for deferred MBA:
The applicant can apply for either a direct MBA or deferred MBA. When applicants apply for deferred MBA, they have to mention the year in which they prefer to start to program. Usually, Stanford University allows two years deferral.  If a student applies for a direct MBA authority might grant deferred enrollment if they think that a particular candidate should gain some more experience and grow and learn more before starting the course.
Wharton MBA (University of Pennsylvania)
The opportunity of getting a Wharton MBA is open for both undergrad and master’s students in their final year.  After securing a seat in the future MBA program anyone can pursue a career for two to four years and then can start the MBA program.
The University of Pennsylvania accepts some early-career students each year who have 0 to 3 years of experience.  Undergrad students who exhibit strong leadership, managerial potential, and skills get the opportunity to do an MBA without any work experience. At the University of Pennsylvania skills, managerial power, and strong quantitative background is much more important than the time an applicant passed in the work. So if you want to pursue MBA, right after completing your under graduation, it is highly recommended to prepare yourself in quantitative subjects like finance, economics, statistics, calculus, etc. A good GMAT score will also be very helpful in this matter.
Sloan School of Management (MIT)
Like some other top business schools, MIT Solan has introduced MBA early admission. This program is designed for ambitious students who want to secure a seat in the future MIT Solan MBA class. Students who choose MBA early admission of MIT Solan will work for two to five years before matriculating into the full-time MBA of MIT Solan.
Having work experience gives extra benefit to get admission to the MBA program of Sloan School of Management because students who understand workplace issues have a framework of experience they can understand the curriculum better and participate in the class discussion. So MIT Solan suggests if anyone wants to apply without work experience, early admission will be the best option for them.
Stern School of Business (New York University )
Many universities are now giving students opportunities to pursue an MBA without work experience, but consider work experience as a positive addition. Stern School of Business is one of them. NYU Stern believes before starting career student can continue their study without any distraction. Here work experience for getting admission to an MBA is not a prerequisite.
NYU Stern evaluates each student under three categories: the academic profile, professional achievements and aspirations, and personal characteristics. In a student, Stern looks for intellectual ability, interpersonal skills, and ambition to do something in the future. That’s why full-time work experience is not a prerequisite in this university. Stern School of Business also evaluates internship and part-time jobs but suggested to add these types of experiences under “work history” in the resume. If applicants have any full-time work experience only that will be included in the “professional Information” section.
Cornell University:
Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business is another institution that offers an MBA without work experience. But if you want to enroll here you will need a good academic record. Cornell University requires good GRE/GMAT score, letter of recommendation, transcript, and online application; however, the authority will check the eligibility of applicants through their past academic record.
Columbia Business School
Columbia Business School at Columbia University does not require work experience to apply for MBA, However, 99% of students who apply here for MBA degrees have at least 1-year work experience. On average MBA students have 5 years of work experience. If you want to go for MBA early without any work experience Columbia Business School can be the one. Apart from these universities, there are many mid-level universities and colleges that offer MBA without work experience. But in the USA, an MBA is considered a prestigious degree, and most of the students gather experience before pursuing an MBA.  Although many universities allow this degree without work experience they look for some qualities in the students before accepting their applications.

Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 2020-2021
FAFSA ( Free Application. For Federal Student Aid) form can be used to apply for financial aid for college or graduate school. The FAFSA doesn’t pay for anything. The FAFSA is the application for financial aid. Aid comes from college. I strongly recommend that you talk to the financial aid office at the college you’d like to attend, and tell them what you told me.
Where Can Start?
Goto https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. click start here to start application
Am I eligible for FAFSA
https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/eligibility
2020-2021 school year: Use the 2020-2021 FAFSA, which opens October 1, 2019. This one requires 2018 tax information.
If you are First Time applying for FASFA follow this step by step guide
Create an FSA ID. This is your legal electronic signature to sign your FAFSA. It’s linked to your Social Security number. If you are a dependent student, one of your parents will need to make one as well. If your parent already has an FSA ID (for themselves or for other children), they must use their existing FSA ID.
Gather all necessary documents, including bank statements, tax information (W-2s, tax returns), any records of untaxed income, etc.
Start the FAFSA! If you or your parent are given the option to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, use it! It will drag tax information from the IRS straight to the FAFSA and save you a lot of time.
Estimate your aid
https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/estimate
FAQ
If you want aid for summer 2021, you need to add MSU to your 2020-2021 FAFSA and resubmit it, because summer 2021 is part of the 2020-2021 aid year (at most schools). You’ll also need to do the 2021-2022 FAFSA when it opens this October. MSU won’t even look at your FAFSA until you’re admitted, so there’s no issue here.
Yes, you can do the FAFSA without having been admitted. Make sure you meet all deadlines for transferring to MSU. You would likely apply to MSU this fall.
Private loans are awful scams that ruin many lives. Please don’t do what you outline here. It’s really a bad idea.
If I didn’t qualify for any Financial aid last semester (not even loans) would it make any sense to even apply for it now?
Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate
The Excelsior Scholarship, in combination with other student financial aid programs, allows students to attend a SUNY or CUNY college tuition-free.
So I recently just accepted financial aid for nursing school for the 20-21 academic year. How do I pay it off, rather quickly? I noticed words such as interest rates and 6-months grace period on one of the documents but I am still confused. I am not too familiar with any financial stuff so I’m just concerned with paying any extra fees because I’m doing something wrong.
—Sounds like you’ve accepted loans. You need to do something called a Master Promissory Note and entrance counseling (an online module to teach you about the loans and how to use them). Ask your financial aid office for a financial aid counselor to walk you through your aid offer.
Direct PLUS Loans are federal loans that parents of dependent undergraduate students can use to help pay for college or career school. PLUS loans can help pay for education expenses not covered by other financial aid.
FAFSA Pay Back:
I also just looked further into your question and the total amount is in regards to a year total not monthly. So back in 2018 how much did your parents pay for your rent and other bills. I personally wouldn’t include food estimates since they would be buying groceries regardless of you living there-I could be wrong but food isn’t specified. (I would add it if you lived under a separate roof and they paid for your individual groceries)
Yes, you should be independent despite living at home. You just need to be 24+ by Dec. 31 of the year you are applying for.
Yes, it automatically locks those since you are counted as independent
You typically want to go with your best guess (so maybe 550 if you aren’t sure?) and it’s based on the day you are filling out the FAFSA itself so it could vary
General rule I like to go by is trying to provide the most accurate information but not providing additional information if it’s not required (especially financial).
Hope this helps! I’m a college adviser but I normally work with hs students so I tried my best to answer as I don’t have too many independent students
Cal Grant : The Student Aid Commission strives to make education beyond high school financially accessible to all Californians.
Do you have to fill out the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note and Direct Loan Entrance Counseling every year?
—Yes, because loans are offered per year. Each year’s loan is unique
My college requested verification after doing the fafsa. Do I have to print out the tax return transcript request form to sign it and email it? It doesn’t let me type on the lines on the pdf.
—You can submit a SIGNED copy of the tax return itself to your financial aid office.
—Go to the IRS website and do the online request. That form is for paper copies and you cannot get a paper copy right now.
I recently moved to the us and haven’t received my ssn and it may take a while a after October any idea about what I can do?
—-If you’re not a citizen or eligible non-citizen, you aren’t eligible for federal financial aid. Look at private schools which may have more money to give. Or start at community college which is much cheaper.
If you have more question or want answer please post your question:
