The thing that KILLS me about this season between Jiara is that they both know.

Kie knows that JJ is in love with her, he never denies her that. JJ told Kiara he loved her before she told him.

It’s in the way he steps back from her and tells her he has nothing to offer her, and it’s fucked up but it’s his way of sayin like love and I, don’t mix.

And he loves her enough to save her from that.

And Kie, when she told him that she knows he freaks when people get close, I was like BRO. Are you fucking with me?!

This season was about so much more than the big moments, though I love the big moments. Even the finale, I felt was so tender and gentle. Their body language towards each other. It’s subtle because they aren’t there to broadcast it.

I LOVED this season. It gave me such butterflies and I smiled so much. I really loved jiara and how nuanced and delicate and balanced they were. I think we all convinced ourselves they’d be all passion, but I think I love it more that for now, they’re so tender and gentle with each other.

It made the ache in Kie’s chest worsen, an already tight knot that felt suffocating, pulled taught enough to hurt. But JJ had moved so close and his lashes fluttered when his gaze dropped to her lips and—

The knot was fraying, splintering, ready to snap.

I want to give props to Rudy for his whole body language on season 3 because you could see his body tense and go into self defense mode when Kie got too close. This is a very realistic portrayal of someone that has been abused before and has problems dealing with this level of romantic intimacy. The line between "i want this" but also "should i allow myself to have this?". The expressions of wanting to remain detached and self assured. We got a little bit of season 1 JJ that pretended to be disinterested. This was a good arc for JJ but it needed more exploration. JJ’s abuse is something that has made JJ one of my favorites if not my favorite because it contains layers to explore. I don’t care about anyone that didn’t like this plot. It truly was one of the few interesting things.

Thinking that Kie's "like, I love you, dude" might be the first ever real love confession JJ has heard, or at least he hasn't heard someone telling him 'I love you' for a very long time - it explains why JJ's immediate reaction was; well basically he didn't know how to react.

Which probably leads to the conclusion that this may be JJ's first time saying 'I love you' to someone.
