when the people who knew about Dewey’s existence (and by people, i mostly mean B&K, but also sometimes B) were talking about / referring to him in conversations in not so private places they usually take precautions to avoid actually using his name. like when they’re sure only people who knew the secret were present and that no one’s eavesdropping they just said “Dewey” or “D” but if they’re at a more public place then that was too risky so they have a system for that.
Kit uses “F” to refer to Frank and “Ernest” when referring to Ernest so when she uses “Frank” or “E” that was when she was talking about Dewey, and Bertrand uses the exact opposite (“F” and “Ernest” referring to Dewey, “Frank” referring to Frank himself and “E” when referring to Ernest.) (Beatrice: and these two think I’m unnecessarily dramatic???)  Although once they did accidentally called him “D” thinking no one was around and then got questioned “who is D?” and then shared a quick glance before answering “L’s legal representative” “Lemony’s legal representative”
meanwhile Beatrice is just out there saying “redacted” when she think the situation calls for it “last week i visited redacted at redacted and borrowed left parenthesis stole right parenthesis a book” and nobody got suspicious because everyone just thinks Beatrice is being. well. Beatrice

still thinking about how easily esmé could’ve gotten her claws on the quagmire fortune by abusing her power in the financial district instead of stuffing two kids into a cage at the bottom of her elevator shaft and then into a statue of a fish and strapping it to the roof of a car and then into a statue of a bird and th

what’s even funnier abt that ‘she [sunny] insisted’ line is that klaus basically spends this entire ep. arguing w/ violet and she does not give a SINGLE INCH. then sunny comes out with one (1) emotionally resonant choice as part of her bildungsroman arc and violet just tears up like okay!! baby’s growing up!!!

hey. good morning, everybody. you know how dewey’s existence is a secret? i can’t get to my books right now but i’m not like … SURE that the book explicitly ruled out the possibility that he’s a secret to his brothers too
like what if they thought he died years ago? what if they chalked up all the unexplained apparent third-manager appearances to the other one lying, untrustworthy as they are? what if dewey’s lines about hating how secretive VFD makes him be were also about not telling his brothers, and it made a rad parallel with lemony? what if frank and ernest hear THE MANAGER’S BEEN SHOT and panic about their brother/enemy and rush to the scene and meet each other on the way (thanks lyeekha for this additional twist of the knife lol) and find dewey’s body and are furious with [themselves/the other one/dewey/VFD] — !!
… again it’s totally possible there’s a book line like “oh only my brothers know about me” because i haven’t looked yet but listen, EVEN IF SO it’s a good as hell AU right??

i like how writing realistic worlds and characters is so important for so many writers to the point where they agonize over it. meanwhile lemony snicket was just like “death to reality. im gonna write this whole ass series and with god as my witness, absolutely fucking NOBODY is gonna act like a person.”

A Series of Innuendos

a series of “a series of unfortunate events” hot takes
-the carniverous carnival and the slippery slope were two of the best books. this is true because i say so.
-i’m glad the troupe survived in the netflix show because they were one of the ultimate highlights
-the three baudelaire child actors are incredibly talented and i will personally make sure they all win many awards
-the end should have been two episodes or one really long episode, and i wanted to change a few things about the way netflix did the opera scene but neither of those things bothered me enough to give a negative impression. the entire series was such a good adaptation that kept the exaggerated stylised tone of the books so well and i will defend it to my dying days
-lucy punch has always been iconic the whole world has just been sleeping on her
-i’m glad justice strauss survived (although it makes zero sense for her to have made it to the ground floor in time) because i would put joan cusack’s life before my own every time
-the movie was fun. there. i said it. it wasn’t really a good adaptation of the books but it was fun and i still quote some of the lines to this day. don’t hate me.
-i fully believe that neither olaf or esme started the Baudelaire mansion fire but both of them thought the other person did. in reality it was actually somebody else involved in the schism who we may or may not have met in the series.
-sunny was the smartest person in every version of the series, followed closely by the other two baudelaires.

I love how when folks write salty posts about Count Olaf and his crimes on this hellsite, they have to put ASOUE after it, “Sans Undertale” style, or else some confused person from outside the fandom will show up with an “Dang thought this was about Frozen and got confused for a min!” or a “WTF is going on in the Frozen community?” because nobody actually uses the word “Count” in posts that are meant to be in-jokes in the fandom and to never see the light of day outside of the fandom tags.
