so i started playing genshin a few days ago. here are my first thoughts. i am purely comparing this to botw

wow the gameplay is very similar to botw huh. not that im complaining i literally love just running around and doing shit all in botw and now i can do that in genshin too it's great

i freaking love the dungeons. or temples or whatever they're so fun

kaeya is my favourite boy best twink i love him he's the best

THE CITIES???? MONDSTADT IS SO BIG IM USED TO LIKE, LIL VILLAGES. the amount of times i have gotten lost in that place is unholy

i love all the elemental powers and weapons, the way the game encourages character switching frequently is so cool.

also on that note THE ARROWS FLY PERFECTLY STRAIGHT? it's so easy to get crits in weak spots now im sobbing i love this

please can someone explain artifacts in an easy to understand way that mechanic overwhelms me there are so many factors to think about. why do they have individual stats, and stats for two and four of a set and why do i have to read all these words. tips for what to prioritise and such would be greatly appreciated 👍

im assuming the adventurer level is meant to be very slow to level up, so the game encourages you to do side quests. i really like that mechanic, and i love how long the side quests take they properly feel like quests rather than some random quick task.

i also love how talking to npcs is generally rewarding, that's cool.

THE GRAPHICS ARE SO PRETTY RAAAAAAAAAAA

in conclusion, i am loving this game so far. for a basically free game the quality is absolutely incredible. but ofc they still make a lot of money from the gacha system.

slightly worried about trying to go f2p and the sheer amount of grinding i have heard is involved with that but eh we ball

planning on playing both botw and genshin at the same time which is probably a terrible idea cause im using one controller for both and all the buttons are different so that'll be an interesting trip but eh it'll be funny if i try to attack with Y and end up using my special or try to enter the wheel menu with RB and end up pulling out whatever rune i have activated. it's silly it's fine

I really like that scene in mob psycho 100 where those random guys try to bully mob, but then, before mob can even do anything, dimple makes the guy disrobe and ritsu tries to kill him and the body improvement club just kinda circles up and squishes him between their pecs until the guys beg for mercy and leave. because it's a very stupid scene. kinda the epitome of the show's goofy weird slapstick humor. and so when you're watching it the first time you assume that's the purpose of the scene--to be dumb slapstick humor. because it succeeds at that, so it would be perfectly functional if that's all it was.

but THEN it turns out that it's actually setup for two episodes later when mogami traps him in a mind dimension to try and turn him evil and he's standing in the SAME PLACE and he sees ritsu on the bridge but ritsu doesn't acknowledge him. and he gets bullied. and not only is he powerless to defend himself, he has no one who cares. the scene plays out an evil mirrored version of itself where it's straightforward. it's harsh. it's empty. mob gets beaten up, and he is alone.

and that would've been a good scene on its own, too. but to me the fact that you see the silly ridiculous version of it FIRST (the one that culminates in the body improvement club suffocating a guy with their man boobs) is really important to me. because then, later, you feel how much more it hurts for mob to be alone when you've already seen what it could be, what it is. and then on a rewatch when you see the goofy version of the scene you can't help but feel an undercurrent of dread and a sense of how dangerously close the absurd is to tipping over into something way too real and visceral. which is a feeling that runs throughout the entire show.

anyway.

#mob mixes the silly with fucking genius storytelling perfectly #like something you thought was just a joke or a gag actually matters. but it's still a joke/gag #mob getting the broccoli seeds in s2 ep1 is one of my absolute favourite Chekhov's Gun moments of all time #cause it's framed as just like a gag #the fact that reigen is paying mob in vegetable seeds is so ridiculous #and then it just leaves our brain and we forget about it #and then the pocket that we SEE him put them in has been blasted off once the broccoli has been formed #we're like “wait wtf is going on where did a broccoli come from” but we just accept it because of the madness of mob psycho #and then when we rewatch we're like OH MY GOD THEY FORESHADOWED IT ALL THAT TIME AGO AND SET THAT UP TO HAPPEN AND WE DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE #it's just‚‚‚‚‚‚#genius #the beauty of mob psycho's storytelling never ceases to amaze me #but the manage this beautiful storytelling and yet STILL KEEP IT SILLY AND WACKY AND GOOFY #it's brilliant #mp100 #mob psycho 100 #prev >#for the record i haven't watched mob in a minute and i haven't really been thinking about it more than usual recently #but it's so stuck in my heart that sometimes a scene or a theme will just pop up as I'm like. brushing my teeth or whatever #and i get all emotional again #the way mp100 mixes absurdism and pathos is just really special to me okay. no one is out here doing it like that but mp100
