Marginal Gains
Looking back on some old records I see that my weakest body part has added at best, 3/4" over the the last 3+ years. Fuuk calves! If someone told me 3 years ago that it was going to take that long to put on that little, I may have opted out. Hell I never really took them serious until 3 years ago but still did them. You would think I should of had some beginner gains in there but nope, worked for what little I got. Is there a body part or a lift that you just gave up on?

New to ug but not to working out and need some tips
Ok this is gonna be a long story, but here we go. A few years ago, I was in my last semester of college about to graduate from UF, until I came down with bacterial meningitis from “swimming in dirty water,”I was told. However the only dirty water I was ever around was the sewage overflows in my crappy apartment that I made multiple complaints about to the office that were unanswered. I even went to the hospital and they started giving me an x ray which had nothing to do with what I was complaining about! So of course, they stereotyped me as a typical college kid partying and doing drugs and told me it was a flu. I knew it wasn’t and was something worse and asked them if they would just do their job and check my white blood cells count for an infection, but they insisted that they already did everything they could and just prescribed me some ambien for sleeping (one of my complaints among other classic bacterial meningitis symptoms like stiff neck, etc) and then I said “alright I’ll see you guys in a few weeks.” I had hoped I was just kidding, but boy was I wrong. One night after getting home from the gym, I went to make a protein shake, but I bumped into the button to turn on the stove it was sitting on, and the next thing I know is I’m laying down in my bed and my fire alarms going off; but thank god I love the cold weather (Gainesville) because if my window wasn’t open, my neighbor couldn’t have climbed into my apartment and saved my life by calling 911. Cuz I guess by the time I got to the hospital, I had so much carbon monoxide poisoning and I suffered from a consequential stroke and I was seizing. When I got to the hospital they did a spinal tap and confirmed it was bacterial meningitis. My family was called and they rushed from west Palm Beach, and by the time they arrived, they had already removed my right side of my skull to relieve the pressure. Next they had to resect a lobe of my brain. Of course, I was medically induced in a coma for about 3-4 months where I had some of the most vivid dreams of my life (I see why Michael Jackson was addicted to propofol) when I finally woke up, I couldn’t talk yet which was probably the most frustrating thing, and I was freaked out when I learned what had happened and my whole left side was paralyzed. So what I’m wondering is, what besides quad extensions and leg press are really good for building your quads? I do everything that I’m able to one side at a time by the way, to avoid looking like an uneven retard. So my left side is much weaker from my stroke and less coordinated among other things.

Getting in better shape
Hello everyone, Hi, i’m a 22 year old boy who wants to get in better shape. I wouldn’t say i’m extremely obese but i would say i’m a little overweight. With summer coming up I want to have that summer body, or at least the start of a summer body. I understand loosing fat and building muscle takes commitment and time. I have access to a gym every day, I just don’t feel motivated to go. My diet is surprisingly really good. Recently I cut soda and fatty junk foods out of my diet which I can tell helps a lot. Any advice on workout routines and certain exercises to do. I want to mainly focus on chest, arms, and back. Legs come naturally for me as I play hockey. Obviously it’s always good to work on everything but the 3 i mentioned above is a must for me. Any advice and/or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

About To Begin TRT
I turn 40 tomorrow. Been feeling like I’m 70 for years now. If my wife hadn’t done 4 in the corps, she’d of left me long ago. She deserves more. Al Bundy is a prophet, I am his disciple. I started lifting in 9th grade. By the time I was 24, I was pulling 6 plates for 5 reps, incline bench was 365x6, squats 4 platesx8 reps, OHP 275x4, barbell curls at 245x5. I was 6’1” and 245-55 at around 12-15% bf. 33” waist. 20 3/4” arms. I could even dunk. I blew my RC out doing seated dumbbell presses, dropped a 120lb db on my thigh and foot, arm left dislocated until I popped it back in. I just kind of lost motivation.. then I became a dedicated family man and fast forward about 15 years and I’m ready to dedicate myself again. It’s not just for me, it’s for my family. To be as healthy as I can be. I’m 274 lbs with a 40” waist. My arms are almost 18”. I feel like hell. My sex drive drives like a Pinto. My bloodwork came back, 439 total T with a range of 264-916. 8.1 Free with a range of 8.7-25.1. I am also borderline vitamin D deficient at 39.2 with 30-100 range. All other values were fine.. hematocrit at 45.1. Glucose was 98 though with a range of 65-99... anyone have an insight on that? The clinic I’m going through is headed by a legit Urilogist. They’re going to start me on 100mg/week of Cyp. They’re willing to adjust up if needed, but I prefer to stay as conservative as possible and just dial things in. I plan on easing into things.. I’m hoping muscle memory will take over at some point. Goals are to get my waist line back around 34 and bf% around 15. Not going to dunk or squat even 3 plates again as my knees are arthritic.. just one day at a time with the long run in mind. What is to be will be. Feel free to give any advice you can, I’m no newbie, but I am always willing to learn and try things out. Nutrition, workouts, sex moves... bring it. Skol!

estradiol Issues
I have a question few months ago I got the testosterone pellets for trt, wanted to try it to see if it’s better than injections, most likely I will switch to injections after 4 month period. after 6 weeks my total test went from 169 to 420 ng/dL with the pellets and after 12 weeks down to 380 ng/dL, Hematocrit was slightly elevated to 52.6% and my estradiol was very high at 120 pg/ml. The urologist has no problem putting more pellets to get me up to 800, but he is worried of my hemocrit level. i was prescribed arimidex 1 mg 2x week I was thinking that might be slightly high I was thinking to start off at 1mg week because I don’t want to crash my estrogen levels. Plus I am more scared of the arimidex than I am scared of high estrogen. Does ra anyone have any wisdom to share with me about arimidex and should I cut It down to 1 mg week compared to 2x because the urologist treating me has no idea about this stuff I expected more from the Cleveland clinic, but they are incompetent in regards to trt everyone there from the endocrinologist to there nurses are against it. My urologist admittedly told me has no idea about anti estrogens and wanted me to start 1mg a day!!! Until I started asking questions and then I followed up with the endo and he said that is way too high and and prescribed 2x week, but criticized me for doing trt he said my 160ish level was fine? will arimidex increase my test levels if my estrogen goes down? any advice is helpful I’m scared of muscle cramping with this arimidex

Any use for Caber in this cycle?
From what I understand most people only use caber when on a cycle which includes Tren or Deca.. But what about a Test/D-Bol cycle? Any use for it at all? Or should I Just stick with Aromasin to control estro?

Once a week?
Any thoughts on the effectiveness of once a week per bodypart for someone who is natural? I'm finding the boxing workload is where I need my focus, my high volume old school thinking multiple times a week just will not fit into my goals. There seems to be some suggestion on various lifing websites that once a week is popular for one group and may not be as effective a setup for a natural lifter, I am interested in opinions.

Question about test level #s
Finally got blood work and my test levels were like 1490 and 600 something for the test and free test levels. I tried google but couldn’t get shit. If I was taking 500ml a week is that a good level? Obviously means my shit was not fake cause I know I had low levels prior and 1000 being a horny teenager but would like to know more about what does #s mean. Thanks.

Moment Arm
You want to be as strong as possible. You're here to learn the facts and tips to become a beast. So- Where is the Moment Arm thread?! What is a "moment arm"? Gravity pulls your DB down, and you shoulder gets a rotational force called torque. You delt muscles activate to beat gravity and allow you to hold your DB up.
Tumblr media
The distance between gravity (line/point of force) and the point of rotation (your shoulder joint=point of rotation here) is the lever arm. You use a wrench to rotate a bolt-the wrench is the lever arm. A longer lever arm produces more torque. Your wrench with a longer handle will turn the bolt easier than your shorter wrench. Size matters.
Tumblr media
A moment arm is the shortest distance from the "line of force" to the "joint axis" at 90°. It must ALWAYS be at 90°.
Tumblr media
Your shoulder joint is the "joint axis" and the DB is the "line/point of force" in the pic. Notice the distance is at a 90° angle. The moment arm is in red. Your angle will change the length of the moment arm. In the pic, your arm is held straight out, so the moment arm will be the same length as your arm (lever arm).
Tumblr media
Notice the moment arm is shorter when your DB is raised higher. This places less torque on your shoulder joint. That's why its easier to hold your DB close to your chest versus holding your DB straight out in front of you! One more example of how the moment arm affects your strength in lifts:
Tumblr media
The right arm in the pic above shows how grip affects a moment arm. In BB bench press, your grip placement can shorten or lengthen the moment arm. Use biomechanics and moment arm manipulation to your advantage. Remember, the shorter the moment arm, the easier the lift. Beast Mode Facts 1. For lifting a weight, 2 things matter: the load itself and the lengrh of the moment arm. If the load is too heavy, or a moment arm is too long, you will not lift the weight. 2. Muscle attachment points greatly affect a moment arm. The closer your muscle attachment is to the joint, the better. A person with 4cm moment arm has to contract with 50% more force just to produce the exact same result as person with a 6cm moment arm. 3. You can't change attachment points, but your strength can be changed by increasing contractile force via CNS adaptation (practice makes perfect) and increasing muscle size. Add intelligent use of biomechanics and you'll be a beast. Bonus Low Bar Back Squats is typically the best bet for having a personal monster Squat number when applying biomechanics like moment arms.
Tumblr media
Torso length obviously affects moment arms in a squat, and a longer torso will benefit you. Low-Bar adds to torso length in a squat. Look how short the moment arms are in the long torso compared to a short torso:
Tumblr media
You now have a general idea of what moment arms are and the importance biomechanics have with strength potential. Continue to learn and use every tool available-don't waste your potential! Now everyone can see why I have my number goals in DB Flat Bench Press, BB Front Squat, etc: everyone goes WTF for those who have insane numbers for the hardest available lifts! Go smash your goals, brothers! HULK SMASH!!!

Hey everybody
I’m very grateful to be a part of this community! I’ve been bodybuilding and lifting for 5+ years now. I’ve competed in the Great Lakes Ironman competition and will be competing again this fall. My bench is 320, squat is 450, and my dead is 505. I hope I can learn something from the community and give some advice from my personal experiences as well.

TNE - Benefits?
TNE has been all over the podcasts lately and I’ve heard a lot of people experiment with it but I haven’t heard anyone rave about the experience. Have any of you found a spot for it or is it one of those things that always sounds better then it is?
