Why do so many people spell Kim Sunoo's name different? Like what is Kim Seonwoo? Who is Kim Seonwoo? Why is Kim Seonwoo?

I have not accepted that Niki is officially as old as Carnival Era Jakehoon as of this month. It feels cursed.

sunoo is just the stage spelling he uses! seonwoo is his real name. it’s all spelled the same in hangul though which is why it might be a little confusing. the boyz sunwoo also has a different spelling, yet written in hangul it’s the same! 선우 = sunoo/seonwoo/sunwoo.
I am learning Korean and I do know that the Korean spelling is all the same, but I appreciate you for going out of your way to give me this information regardless.
I had said it in the tags mostly, but I can say it again here for clarification on my confusion: If the Korean spelling is exactly the same, then it feels like there is no real point in Romanizing it differently when Kim Sunoo (김선우) and Kim Seonwoo (김선우) are the same person. I can spell Sunghoon's name Seonghoon and Seonghun and Sunghun, etc., but that would only cause unnecessary confusion as he's known as "Sunghoon" to all speakers who use a Latin-alphabet. Same thing applies to Jungwon (with spellings like Jeongwon, Chungwon, etc.). I am aware The Boyz have a member named Kim Sunwoo and am aware why the spelling distinction between Kim Sunwoo (The Boyz) and Kim Sunoo (ENHYPEN) has been made, but if it is literally for the same person, I'm confused why people insist it is his "real name" when the "stage name" is already his real name. It is the same confusion I have of people absolutely insisting to use Jeongguk when it is spelled the same in Korean as Jungkook. It just feels like it's completely unnecessary and will confuse people who don't know the members 😭

BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED TO MY POLL!!! 💕
ENHYPEN FANFIC QUESTION FROM A BABY ENGENE!
Hello! I hope this post reaches its intended audience. I've been working on writing something that has been taking a long time and I wanted to ask fanfiction writers, mainly for Enhypen, but I would be happy to hear from any KPop fanfic writers: How do you go about finding images for your stories? Do you guys use Pinterest, their recent social media posts, Google images, etc.? And for smut writers, how often / do you check how old the member is in the pictures you use? I'm very curious and want to learn the culture a little more since I usually stay out of that bubble. Any information on these questions or simply the subject of KPop fanfiction (advice, etc.) is very helpful! Thank you!!

not a kpop writer but i've think i've been reading long enough to understand. most people i follow get most of their pictures off pinterest. when it comes to smut i don't see a lot of people using photos of idols when they were minors.
They definitely SHOULDN'T use images of minors for smut. I was mainly just curious if they checked at all since I guess I see a lot of images used for the aesthetic and sometimes that means pulling from older images. Like if you're doing a prince concept, pulling from BORDER: Carnival rather than anything recent. ENHYPEN had four minors when they debuted, so it just makes me a bit nervous when I see people pull from those old images sometimes 😅

ㅤWhether you've been a K-pop fan for a shorter or longer time, you may be acquainted and familiar with fansites. They are well-known and common within fandom spaces, especially (but not solely) of Korean idols, and mindfulness when consuming content originating from them is something that we have already brought up a year ago, when ENHYPEN started to actually see a bigger influx of accounts actively dedicated to sharing HD content of them — be it for a specific member or the whole group — as they started their first overseas tour.
ㅤOur concerns back then were brought up because we wanted ENGENEs to be mainly aware of fansites that had malicious intentions — also known as sasaeng fans, or simply sasaengs. And being wary of the content we consume and who we engage with is important. ENHYPEN, through the short course of their 3 years of activity as a group, has already had to deal with several uncomfortable situations involving mobbing in places such as airports, stalking, selling of private flight and personal contact informations, and general innapropriate behavior towards them. In the most recent event, which took place on a Weverse live, Heeseung expressed discomfort towards unknown numbers — potentially sasaengs — constantly calling him as he talked to fans.
ㅤWith the strong sense of belief that we, as fans, play a big part on making sure the artists we wholeheartedly support don't have their privacy and personal space disrespected, ENHYPENET has curated a list with names and Twitter / X handles of fansites who we deem unsafe — fansites who have, in one way or another, disrespected the artists' boundaries. We have created a spreadsheet and a mobile-friendly list on our site, with the spreadsheet having more details about the users — from the basic information such as their names and handles, to specific details such as activity status, the member they are focused on, their watermark for easier identifying, to the most important: the reason why you should not consume their content.
ㅤThe list was created in mind mainly with our gifmakers in mind, as a guide to refer to when you decide to gif videos originating from fansites, but this list goes to and should be read by all fans, as we encourage. Our network will strictly not queue content that comes from the fansites we have listed, and our decision is final — meaning we won't be removing any names from there, nor will we entertain any conversation or messages in defense of any fansite we named.

Hi, I can try and address some of the actual opposing arguments to give you the other side in a non-derogatory manner, if you'd like. Please take this all as objectively as possible, I'm not trying to do this to spread hate or gatekeep.
TLDR; Some of the nuance you've added to your argument can be used by much older adults and attract a predatory audience, which he has had since 2020, to Niki during a time period where most of his online presence still shows images of him when he was underage. However, the extent of hate to the degree mentioned is completely unacceptable. Criticism is not the same as blatant harrassment and should not be tolerated.
I encourage you to read my entire post though. (/lh)
Note: Though this is my first post on this account, I have a shit ton of drafts and also have previously replied with it, so it was not created just to target this post or other posts like it. I just wanted to include images and write as long as I wanted to on this issue, and the replies would have been very annoying for me and for your notifications.
The reason Niki has such a heavy backlash compared to Sunoo and Jungwon is because a lot of people were being predatory to him immediately after I-LAND, saying horrific things like they'd rape him, etc. (Keep in mind he is only FOURTEEN in the leftmost image, not even fifteen yet.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since this point, people have been ruthlessly defending his honor because though it is a very common issue when debuting underage idols, he has had a much heavier influx of sexual comments and predatory content since 2020 than the other members and many other underage idols (Closest I can think of to that scale besides him right now is Wonyoung due to IZ*ONE's popularity. I believe this increased attention is due to the fact that HYBE is huge and any band they debut is going to immediately gain a shit ton of popularity. Enhypen debuted when BTS were still trending pretty much daily, so they were a much bigger deal than some other bands debuting under smaller companies.). A lot of similar predatory people are now excited as they'll have no issues sexualising him now that he's no longer a minor and some ENGENEs, rightfully, find that sickening. Adults, aka people no where close to his age, are finding it okay to sexualise him and write and read smut stories about him despite being nearly twice his age, in their late 20s, early 30s, etc. This is seen as predatory due to the fact that they're older adults who were lying in wait for his 18th birthday in order to sexualize him without garnering hate.
In the case of smut written in advance for his birthday, that is just blatantly the act of writing smut about a 17 year old and only releasing it once he turns 18 under the thought of, "a few days don't make a large difference". This behaviour shows that someone has had sexual thoughts about a minor and have excused it in a sort of age-doesn't-matter-esk argument. The other common argument is that he seems "mature" for his age and a large amount of that attraction often comes from the makeup and concept photos that make him appear more adult-like, especially when surrounded by actual adults, essentially still endangering a minor by putting sexual fantasies on him while he is still underage. It is essentially stating that if someone looks like an adult, they're allowed to push their sexual thoughts onto them.
The reason smutty Niki fanfiction is such an issue this early on is because it often pulls from images of his appearance at 17, sexualising the visual of a minor despite being posted after he has already reached adulthood. Rather than allowing him to continue to grow, as most kids going off to college are still relatively confused and ignorant about the world, not to the extent of having no sexual thoughts, but definitely to the extent of having very minimal life experience, these stories are immediately decending the sexual side of adulthood onto what is realistically a child who has had a full time job for four plus years.
In terms of your argument about teenagers having sexual thoughts before turning 18, I personally agree. I think he has had plenty of them over the course of his time in Enhypen due to classic teenage hormones, but the issue with bringing such nuance to an issue like this is it gives an excuse for predatory adults to say their predatory actions are okay due to the fact that he has most likely had thoughts like this previously, when it is up to adults like them to know better. It is an adult's responsibility to protect underage teenagers from such content despite these thoughts because if these things are acted upon while they're underage, even if the younger person has consented, it counts as rape. In some places, it doesn't even matter if the two people are 17 and 18, you'd still be tried for rape. This is mostly because we now know, scientifically, that the body doesn't stop developing after significant puberty milestones like someone AFAB gaining their period, etc. (This was an actual historical standard, leading girls as young as 14 to be seen as adults who could have frequent sex to try for a baby as long as they were married.) Not writing smutty fanfiction so early on can help minimalise the amount of unwanted, predatory adults who read your fanfiction while thinking of him as "old enough". Also, unfortunately, you do not always garner the online audience you wish to attract most of the time, and therefore, interacting with such content underage, despite having these thoughts, can open you up to predators, hence the "minors dni" insistence on these fanfiction accounts. Niki, who clearly has already been opened up to predators from a very young age, can get additional negative attention from stories like these during a period of time where the majority of his online presence and photos released of him are of him underage. When new ENGENEs see smut about someone, they're not going to know that he just turned 18 and will keep recent images like the Dark Blood concept photos in mind while reading these stories. This puts him in danger regardless of whether the real life version of Niki is of age.
If I had to give an actual opinion on the age it is appropriate to write something like this, I would probably put the age of 20 down as that is South Korea's age of consent and that is where he is living. It also gives a few years for images of him as an adult to accumulate so that Google / Naver shows you Niki as an adult instead of as a minor. If you'd like to go based on Japanese standards, despite living in South Korea for 4 years, they have since raised their AOC to 16 as the previous 13 it was at unsurprisingly ammounted to expansive child sexual abuse materials throughout the country. This would, however, still lead to some of the issues listed above, meaning maybe 19 is a better ballpark age if you really cannot wait that long to write whatever inspires you about his current appearance. This is simply a rough date for perspective sake, as, to state my honest opinion, I personally dislike smut written about real human beings no matter what age they are. (This is simply written to show my stance, not to demonise the fact that you're clearly much more avid fanfic readers / writers. Creative writing is still a good thing, I just personally don't like the thought of my writing affecting a real human being's life in any way. The thought of anyone writing such content about me, despite me being an adult, gives me the ick, so I don't wish to put that upon anyone else, you know?) I dislike gatekeepers, so if you disagree with this stance on age, that's a matter of your opinion versus mine. It is perfectly valid to agree to disagree on this matter.
In terms of the hate, it is completely unacceptable to harrass people you disagree with, especially with death threats. I personally agree with simply blocking the accounts with content you dislike and reporting alongside blocking for accounts causing actual harm (such as the accounts listed above sexualising Niki underage). If you dislike the content, for either side, make a separate post. Don't list names or use your post to harrass other people. That's fucked up. However, I do believe in hearing both sides to be able to have a neutral weighing of the pros and cons of both opinions, so I hope you accept this post as an educational look on the opposing argument, regardless of whether you keep your opinion or swap sides.
It’s me, 🪽anon 👋 I wanted to tag @inkysocker in this too so I hope they see this. (If not I’ll send it to them too.)
I agree with you and @inkysocker’s posts on the Ni-ki situation exactly. People have the right to disagree with writing smut about Ni-ki-that’s their opinion and they 100% have the right to feel that way-but if they don’t like it, they should block it and move on. Jungwon is only a year older than Ni-ki and people have been writing smut about him for a long time, and no one bats an eye. Why is there such a double standard? People argue saying “Ni-ki just turned 18”. So, I’m curious to ask them-what exactly is the right time to start writing it by -your- standard? If people wait 3/4/5 months, it would be fine? I don’t get it. And why do people have to abide by -your- standard? It comes off as one of the biggest instances of virtue signaling I’ve ever seen
Look, I watched i-land too. Ni-ki quickly became my favorite because of his talent, sense of humor, humility and kindness-believe me, I’m protective of him too. I get it if some people can’t see him as an adult now because they’re having a hard time separating who he is now from who he was then. But the reality is, he’s growing up and he’s not a little kid anymore. Of course he’s still young and still has his innocent side but he’s certainly not as innocent as some people think he is-because they don’t think about him as a real person, they only see the perfect image that he chooses to show us. And I can understand why. I know kpop companies warp and mold idols’ images into what they want them to be seen as and it’s easy to forget that, once you become a fan and you’re deep in it. I feel like I get lost in it too sometimes. I’ll be honest, I lost my virginity at 17 and was thinking about sex long before that. If people think Ni-ki doesn’t have sexual thoughts like a normal 18 year old, they seriously need to be realistic. In addition, if people think he isn’t trying to shed his “cute”/“baby” image, they really need to get a grip too. Of course he’s still the youngest member-but this year (and esp lately) if you just look at the pictures he himself chooses to post and the tik-toks/dances he himself chooses to do you can tell he’s trying to be more serious and mature.
I have been so absolutely disgusted with the hate and vitriol I’ve seen towards people who have written anything nsfw for Ni-ki or who have talked about doing it. They literally have people telling them to k¡ll themselves, s1it, jump etc. it’s so, so sickening, not to mention triggering. It’s not funny/edgy and cute to tell someone to harm themselves or k¡ll themselves when someone posts something you don’t like-and people just say it like it means nothing. If you can’t properly articulate your stance and express your feelings about something without telling someone to k¡ll themselves, it makes you seem ignorant, immature, and honestly too lazy and vacuous to do so. It certainly does not make you seem like the better person. I know the people saying these things are young and callow but it is so hard to see. They don’t understand the weight their words hold. They have no idea what others are going through and how the recipients of their hate will react to being told to k¡ll/harm themselves. I think about how they would feel if someone actually killed themselves because of the hate they gave them and I would hope that they would actually feel sorry and ashamed but it seems like they’re so far in their narcissistic bubble with their moral grandstanding and so grossly desensitized to saying it in normal conversation that they’d be like “whatever” or “good, they deserved it”. These people are seriously not as edgy and cool as they think they are. They’re immature, twisted, and toxic. Seriously, they give me sociopath vibes. They really think they *hold the torch of wisdom and morals* meanwhile they’re telling someone to s1it their wrists and k¡ll themselves. Make it make sense. In reality, they seem like worse people than the ones they send hate too. And they’re also calling people fat and ugly and fatherless (😀?) when all else fails lmao. What is this, the 4th grade? I’d laugh if I wasn’t so disgusted. Like pls….you’re not funny 💀 Definitely exposes their elementary school/middle school selves, you can really tell how young they are when they respond in that way. Like if you don’t like it, block it. Yet instead they choose to go out of their way to send kys messages…. I can’t fathom how telling someone to k¡ll themselves makes you a better person than them.
It just makes me sick and sad honestly. I’m glad you’re strong because ik you’re probably getting a lot of hate for what you’re doing, but you always respond to it in a mature way, when you do choose to respond to it. Yeah, always feel free to delete as many hate messages as you want, don’t even give them attention. I hope it doesn’t get to you too much and I hope you’re doing well and continue to do well. Just know you’re definitely not alone and have a lot of people who feel the same way. 🩷 And I already talked about the people who send hate to you and others and the kind of people they really are.
(Sorry it was so long-I have a lot of thoughts about this)
This exactly sums up what everyone needs to hear. And a lot of people would agree without hesitation, I have screen shots of people insulting me in my Dms and comment sections and this just embodies what I am trying to get across. STAY IN YOUR CORNER OF TUMBLR!!
