"On June 15th, at exactly 6 PM, a body of a 24 year-old Maria Vixen was found in her own apartment. The body – or, rather what remained of it – lied on a king-sized bed and was still fresh when the police arrived. Maria was mauled almost to the point of unrecognizablity, but thanks to the remaining hair on the floor, the investigation team was able to identify not only the victim, but the killer, too. Upon searching the residential area, detectives followed the bloody footsteps left on the concrete before capturing the culprit red-handed. It appears that the murderer attacked the victim while being completely nude. His entire body was covered in what later reveals to be Vixen's blood. What the police didn't understand while questioning this individual, isn't the awfully metallic smell from his mouth or his nude appearance... it's the fact that they cannot tell who he exactly is."

One though I had recently in regards of "fixing the Mortal Kombat gameplay" is about fatalities. Specifically how every character has two of them with almost little to no difference. It's dumb, and I personally believe it would've been much better if they utilized this fact.
What I'm suggesting is, have every character have two types of fatalities: a classic one, resulting in death, and a "heroic fatality", when the opponent gets damaged, but is otherwise alive. This would've benefited A LOT.
For one, Youtubers don't have to go out of their way to censor deaths during their let's-play's as no one technically dies. And for two, it would no longer be frustrating to see characters who are canonically pacifists fucking tear their opponent apart, even if it's someone dear to them (<- this is primarily about Liu Kang/Kitana and Johnny/Sonya/Cassie)
I'd imagine it like this: say, you picked Liu Kang. If the second player is someone like Shang Tsung, Quan Chi or Shao Kahn, the game will allow you to brutally fatalitize them (possibly keeping the "heroic" option, too). However, if the second player is Kung Lao, Kitana or Raiden, then the fatality combo will be inaccessible, thus leaving you with only knocking them out without any major consequences. Characters who serve minimum meaning to Liu Kang have both options available.
It would be so easy and so much better.

My unpopular MK opinions I will probably get boo'd at for (mostly ship related):
- Nearly all characters lack depth canonically. They can all be described in a sentence or two. It's the fandom that makes them memorable.
- Kung Lao, looking at the way people and characters treat him, should've been the main villain at least once.
- I don't care for Onaga. He can not exist in the lore for all I care.
- Liutana is shallow. I'm sorry there's literally nothing to them. MK9 had the best representation of their relationship and that says a lot.
- The writers need to leave Hanzo alone. He can't be avenging his family and clan forever. His plot line gets repetitive and predictable. Just let him, Harumi and Satoshi live happily.
- Tanleena is such a nothing ship in MK1 specifically.
- Speaking of Tanya, it should've been Jade in her place in MK1. What's the point in bringing her back if you're going to rob her off of her core features (both appearance and personality)?
- I fucking hate Kotal Kahn I wish they bring him back in some adaptation/game just to immediately kill him off.
- Kombat Kids are actually goated... at least, could've been, if they weren't tied to the OG cast.
- Johnny Cage being bisexual just makes sense. Sorry dudebros.
- Not every existing character needs to be playable, especially if they don't bring anything new to the table (looking at you, Frost, Reiko...)
- In fact, villain characters don't need to be playable either.
- WHERE'S THE PROPER SEIDO AND CHAOSREALM LORE????????
- No, Stryker is not unnecessary. See Cynical Warlock's "The most underrated character in Mortal Kombat?" video.
- Subscorp is stupid. I get the appeal, but like... it wouldn't make sense for Hanzo, who's head over heels for Harumi, to be thirsting over the younger brother of his mortal enemy. Or worse - the mortal enemy himself.
- Shao Kahn should've been a "one-off villain" like Kronika.
