This beautifully illustrates the severity of the ‘mental load’ on women when they manage a household. Saving it here to share with every male friend who gets married ;)

this resonates because of that inexplicable tendency to miss the things you didn’t like about home, once you leave.
also, I’ve been waiting to hear Stromae’s new music for a very long time. this is just a feature on one track but i hope it points to more stuff in the near future.

I rarely come across something I can read without getting distracted anymore - but this is one of them. I particularly like how the author captures the fervent piecing-together of a person’s character that happens when you mostly get to know them online. In Kirsten Roupenian’s own words:
“So much of dating involves this interplay of empathy and narcissism: you weave an entire narrative out of a tiny amount of information, and then, having created a compelling story about someone, you fall in love with what you’ve created.“

Quote
Her job is not to make herself likeable, her job is to be her full self, a self that is honest and aware of the equal humanity of other people...Please do not ever put this pressure on your daughter. We teach girls to be likeable, to be nice, to be false. And we do not teach boys the same. This is dangerous. Many sexual predators have capitalized on this. Many girls remain silent when abused because they want to be nice. Many girls spend too much time trying to be ‘nice’ to people who do them harm. Many girls think of the ‘feelings’ of those who are hurting them. This is the catastrophic consequence of likeability.

I was lucky enough to see this talented duo perform live a few years ago, and really related to this particular piece, back then. It still works as a good note to self.
