Saint Dominic in Soriano (c. 1629)
In 1510 St. Dominic appeared to a religious called Brother Vincent of the Convent of Catanzaro in Calabria, and ordered him to found a convent in Soriano, the citadel of that province. Many years after the foundation a striking miracle consoled the religious of Soriano. The Virgin Mary, accompanied by Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Saint Mary Magdalene, appeared to the sacristan of the church and handed him a painting representing the image of St. Dominic. This wonderful happening, followed by many graces granted to the faithful, made Soriano a celebrated sanctuary throughout the whole of Calabria and the Order. As a remembrance of this apparition the present feast is celebrated by the Dominicans. [+]
