I think that is exactly the point. The Harry Potter series is chalk full of historical references, particularly the history of race relations. The Goblins are a very clear metaphor for the Jews of the muggle world. Just as the Jews were in our history, here we see the Goblins are strongly connected to banking (as Christians were traditionally taught against collecting interest) and they are treated as second-class citizens -- magical creatures not wizards.
And of course, there’s the tie-in with the Voldemort/Hitler connections, too. When Voldemort takes over the ministry, he places wizards over the previously autonomous Goblins, reinforcing the idea that Goblins are sub-wizard.
The movie versions of the series stress the metaphor visually because they can’t spend the time the books could to subtly make the connection apparent.
The Harry Potter series is one giant social commentary on human history. The Goblins’ plight as metaphors for the Jewish plight is just the very tip of the iceberg.
I’m sure there was no intention to offend, but don’t the goblins sound very much like a rude reference to the Jewish people? I mean, the noses, the obsession over gold and jewels, also the Star of David right in the middle of Gringotts may appear very anti-Semitic.

I was browsing the new ornaments that Disney Store unveiled this year, since every year or so they make ornaments based on random scenes from their films and
I want it.

Dearest followers,
My Snape blog has now been moved here: http://roonilxwaslib.tumblr.com/
This blog will now be a more general blog. I’ve been meaning to do this for some time, as this is my “primary blog,” but I just now got around to it.
My French Revolution blog is still here: http://thermidorianreaction.tumblr.com/
Have a most wonderful day :)
