There’s something truly different about bucktommy in comparison to buck’s past relationships and I can’t quite put my finger on it but if you have any thoughts I’d love to hear

ooh yeah, definitely. i think maybe it’s this new feeling of freedom? both in the self-discovery that has come along with his feelings for tommy and the liberation he finds in coming to terms with his queerness, but also??

tommy is just. so patient and gentle with him, in ways that i don’t really think buck has had before with a romantic partner. he comes over and reassures buck that his place in christopher and eddie’s lives is irreplaceable, cutting straight through the root of so much of his upset that episode. he kisses buck and gently guides buck in the aftermath of it all. he backs off after their date gone wrong, not because he was upset with buck for not being completely comfortable yet, but because he didn’t want to pressure him into doing anything he wasn’t ready for.

he meets buck with so much patience and understanding. i think his past romantic partners have tried to do so here and there (ie taylor reassuring him in 4.08 that he’s surrounded by meaningful relationships, preparing a brunch for him to make him feel special as he’s spiraling about chim and maddie leaving and the 118 possibly being upset with him, etc) but it’s always fallen a little short in some places, and there was never really that same level of understanding or even patience

and it just feels like for the first time, there’s this true freedom to fail and to make mistakes. with abby he completely spiraled about her thinking he’d cheated on her and was so desperate to prove to her otherwise. with natalia there was this worry that she couldn’t accept all parts of his life, of him. and so on and so on. there’s always just been so much anxiety surrounding his relationships and just trying to be enough for them to stay, thinking if they couldn’t it’d be a sign of his own defectiveness. but with tommy he’s given this freedom to be imperfect and stumble his way through it without the weight and anxiety that had loomed over his past relationships

also on a separate note but buck is someone who just. always take care of others, especially in a romantic sense. so for him to be taken care like this? with tommy’s patience and him checking in with him after their kiss to make sure it was ok and figuring out their date and paying for dinner and topping off his beer? it makes me soooo so unwell

something so so sweet about the way buck talked about tommy in this episode. it was so…high school crush. he’s never been on a date with a dude and he can’t stop thinking about him. there was something so giddy and bright about it. you can see the butterflies and the first date jitters and the awkward laughter that’s a little too try-hard but so fucking earnest. this is buck happy and excited to be falling for someone. this is buck before natalia and taylor and ali, before abby, before buck 1.0. this the kid who wants someone to like him. like buck. like evan. and tommy does! tommy’s interested and tommy smiles when buck’s a bit of an idiot and tommy when calls him evan it doesn’t feel weird or wrong or not him, it just makes him duck his head and blush. tommy likes him. tommy like likes him. and buck like likes him back. and it’s so nice to see. queer people finding joy and love in being queer is one of the most beautiful things in the world and i’m so, so happy evan buckley is experiencing it.
