I made this meme bc of the real life reactions I got to the Job/Peter Parker post, but then @starlightomatic asked me if I could make it rebloggable, so have fun
“It is extremely difficult to follow the progressive hardening of enmity from one day to the next. Suddenly you find yourself surrounded on all sides, and have no idea how or when it happened. Scattered minor occurrences, gestures of no great account, the making of casual little threats. An argument in a tram today, a newspaper article tomorrow, a broken window after that. These things seem random, unconnected, frivolous. Then, one fine morning, you feel unable to breathe.”
— Mihail Sebastian, For Two Thousand Years (trans. Philip Ó Ceallaigh)
on the days when I “win” nyt connections I’m like you guys it’s really not that hard idk what you’re talking abt. on the days when I flop I’m like actually this is so insanely difficult this is like trying to read hieroglyphics. such is life
saying this in its own post bc i’ve been thinking about it lately. it’s one thing to self identify with certain concepts. it’s one thing to joke around with your friends. you can reclaim harmful words/ideas to have fun with them. but these days it seems like people think words like slut whore thot etc are morally neutral… these insults are deeply misogynistic & have real power, they’re not little meme words that fell out of a coconut tree… you can’t just sling them around at people are you out of your mind 😭 these are misogynistic slurs. nothing wrong with saying you’re in your slut era, or telling your friend they look like a slut if you know they don’t mind, but when what you’re saying is nearly indistinguishable from a misogynistic comment meant to devalue a woman, you can’t just expect the rest of us to know that you didn’t mean it like that, you meant it in a silly little meme way
