It's not worth the risk. Unless it is.

Travis Beals, bib 14, at the Ceremonial Start and ReStart of Iditarod 52. Travis ran a solid race and tried to take advantage of Dallas Seavey's time penalty to gain a huge lead, and he did have one for a good while on the Yukon River. Unfortunately he let the team loose a little too soon and their speed fizzled as they left the river and headed for the coast. He also had some trouble with dogs coming into heat. Beals had never been leading in a major race before and said after his race was over that he was proud of his team and he knows he made mistakes but he's putting those lessons into his tool box for next year.

Iditarod 52 Rookie, bib 13, Lauro Eklund at the Ceremonial Start and Restart of the race. Eklund is a second generation Iditarod musher, his father having run the race decades earlier. He ran a solid rookie run and finished in Nome saying he'd be back.

Mille Porsild, bib 12, at the Ceremonial Start and ReStart of Iditarod 52. Mille ran much of the first half of her race battling pancreatitis, she was told during her stop in Takotna she would not be allowed to continue unless she could get a doctor's okay. She took her mandatory 24 in Takotna spending most of her time under medical care, but got the okay. She said she would take it one checkpoint at a time, but fans could tell she was on the mend when she started picking off teams to get back into a competitive position towards the last leg of the race. Mille managed a top ten finish even with the setbacks.

Iditarod 52 Rookie, bib 11, Joshua Ribbons. Ribbons would have some leader issues toward the very end of the race, but with some rest and understanding by their musher they finished! He had run a lot of the race in last place but led the last of the teams into Nome.

Hunter Keefe, bib 10, at the Ceremonial Start and ReStart of Iditarod 52. The fan favorite who barely missed being rookie of the year in Iditarod 51 had a rough second time on the trek to Nome. While heading to the Western Coast of Alaska he was forced to scratch after one of his dogs expired due to unknown reasons (test results are still pending, a necropsy came back inconclusive). Rules state that a musher who has a dog expire must scratch if the death is not due to an outside force (drunk on snow machine, homicidal moose, etc). Before having to scratch Hunter was well on his way to having a similar finish to his rookie run, and was running in 10th place. His season of racing had been a solid, and he is known for his excellent dog care. Before the Iditarod began he was excited to have drawn bib number 10 as that's the number he wore the year he dressed up as an Iditarod Musher for Halloween as a child.
Keefe and team rallied a few weeks later for a final race of the season traveling to Kotzebue to run the Kobuk 440. The musher stated his team was too good of a dog team to finish on a sour note and that they deserved to run. They came in second place behind Jessie Holmes.
