I’ve finally finished the Inari Ōkami print! One reason to why I prefer working the traditional way to digital is that I’m in control. I’m never in control of my digital work and I hate it! But I love how it comes out in the end, so I guess the struggle has to be worth it 😂 A week later than planned and I’m ready to release my AP Inari Dunnys. Oh she finally been revealed! It’s been over a year and I’m so excited to finally share my Dunny Imari Ōkami with you all! I’m officially a @kidrobot artist and couldn’t be more proud! Inari Ōkami is a goddess of fertility, love, and agriculture who brings prosperity to her devotees. Interchangeably depicted as male, female, or kitsune (fox), it is the latter representation that resonated most with artist Tomadachi Island, due to her strong connection to foxes which are frequently used in her work. I’m happy to say that I more or less completed her today, which is way beyond my expectations. What a relief! Completely zoned in and disappeared into my creative mind space where I haven’t been for such a long time. A few touch ups here and there and a few more layers of gold on her horn and she should be ready for the shop! I’ve got two more things to go up. I’m slowly but surely crawling back out of that grave I put myself in at the beginning of this year. It feels like I’ve been gone forever, still, this year I’ve made more customs than last.... it’s weird to think even though I’ve done next to nothing for three months. But I’m slowly repairing what I broke inside me and in a way I feel like a butterfly that’s just gone through it’s metamorphosis. As you know I’ve got this little side project going for my own mental wellbeing. Now I actually managed to make a mold and a resin pull of it this week. I did it all in a blind panic as the weather is starting to get pretty hot and the monsterclay started going too soft 😱 Was pretty scared of loosing this little guy there for a while. The mold is in an absolute state though as I couldn’t put it in the pressure pot. It’s full of air bubbles! On a lighter note I can clean this resin version up (which will not melt) and make a new perfect mold. And who knows, maybe maybe I’ll be able to get some up in the shop for you. Here’s another thing I’ve been working on little by little over the past couple of months. A project I’ve taken on as a personal one. I’m trying to balance work life and and the art I do in my spare time. The past year I did nothing else but work work work and somewhere along the line I stopped enjoying myself. Having your biggest passion as a job is not always as amazing as it might sound when we forget how to enjoy what we do. I am taking this year to learn how to balance myself and how to make this work. I know I can keep doing this as long as I do it right and stop feeling guilty over the things I do in my spare time. Sorry that things are a bit slow around here. I’m dealing with allot of emotional things at the moment as well as some secret projects. In all the stress I went through this past year I have kind of lost my way and forgotten how to relax and clear my mind. I’ve forgotten that drawing is what brings me solace. So last night instead of watching something mind numbing on Netflix I sat down and I drew for the first time in six months. I didn’t know what to draw, had no plan. So I drew three shapes, a circle, a triangle and a square. I’m most familiar with circle shapes and it’s where I feel safe, so that’s where I started. The triangle was daunting but brought a beautiful gentleman bunny. The square was the hardest, it’s such an edgy shape that I really didn’t like. But even a square can be made soft and brought a clever bird creature to life. I rarely challenge my mind like this but I must say it was very refreshing and today I feel much calmer in my soul.
