The Alamo is one of the smaller missions, and it's not some stand-alone ghost building in the middle of the plains - it's dead-center downtown San Antonio, surrounded by huge buildings on every side, and nowadays, getting a tour inside is a logistical nightmare. If you're there anyway, you're better off going to the Hemisfair Plaza and the Tower of the Americas, or down to touristville on the river walk, particularly the bit near the mall where all the restaurants and neat stuff is at.
