There's this perception on here among neurodivergent people that neurotypical social behaviour is all fake and arbitrary. That it's a cruel, baseless game played to "weed out" ND people or to cause pain and complicate things on purpose.
This is wrong. All of those social rules and nuances ARE communication. Sorry if this is rude but it's not the NTs' fault if things don't gel- the gap goes both ways. Just because communication doesn't make sense to you, doesn't mean it's random or purposeless. Remember this post?
Every interaction in an NT conversation has purpose, and communicates something, and I don't understand why nobody ever explains this to ND people. There's information on basic stuff like facial expressions, but never what any of it actually means.
Small talk about the weather isn't about the weather. It's about how nice it is to be around the people you're talking to, or feeling out their understanding of the world, or just saying that you're both present and people and you're being people together. It's not literal. The words are, but the broad scope isn't.
A conversation is not just an exchange of words, it's an exchange of acknowledgement, attention, and emotional understanding. Of course it confuses people when their part in that exchange is met with flat affect or unembelished words. It's like looking in a mirror and not seeing your reflection.
#oh interesting analogy#to take it further I've also seen stuff where the equivalent then would be like....#insisting that if someone fr ex misses or misinterprets an important detail in an image#(say it's a weird cat and they thought it was a dog or smth)#that this is proof that there is nothing on the screen and never has been they're just making shit up for their own ego#tbc like. the thing I'm responding to here and the thing i believe OP is responding to is like.#a really really specific and probably extremely online mindset#it's one i see like 1-3 degrees removed from my immediate circle on here and it's very very hard for me to tell how common it is or isn't

(fwiw I always use a mix of cannellini and garbanzo beans for it cause butter beans weren't quite doing it for me, it seems pretty flexible wrt what kind of pale bean you use!)
Four months latter finally got around to buying some miso paste and trying the lima bean recipe @toasthaste was doggedly evangelizing over the winter (the picture in the recipe looks better).
Anyway, Absolutely delicious 10/10. Deeply sad that my local store only sells lima beans canned and I can't just grab a kilo of them dry to make more of this whenever the mood takes me.
#tbh i should try lima beans (lima beans = younger butter beans) since my main issue with the butter beans is that they were too big#the beans#blabs#(recipe in the replies; note the modifications they're important! (mostly doubling the miso it's crucial))

quick question why does your cat command you to print something on the printer
he really likes to watch the printer print. It seems like he thinks there’s some kind of creature in there that I have the mysterious power to summon that he can then hunt for sport?
he sticks his entire arm inside the printer and breaks it if I don’t put some kind of physical burrier between him and the printer but like he purrs so loud when it starts printing and will beg harder for people to print things than he will for treats.
he just loves hunting the printer so much. he even tried to climb inside the place the paper comes out of the printer when he was a kitten.
No matter where he is in the apartment if the printer makes a noise he sprints full speed. He also knows which button to press to get the printer to print like the ink levels info and alignment sheet, so you have to make sure it’s off or locked up or he will print nonstop himself and then attack the printer and jam it.
is it inconvenient that my cat is obsessed with the printer? yes, but damn if it’s not also adorable.
I don’t actually have a ton of photos of him sticking his whole arm in there though because stopping him from jamming the printer is usually a task that involves all of my arms and also all of my roommates arms.

Reading a book about slavery in the middle-ages, and as the author sorts through different source materials from different eras, I am starting to understand why so many completely fantastical accounts of "faraway lands" went without as much as a shrug. The world is such a weird place that you can either refuse to believe any of it or just go "yeah that might as well happen" and carry on with your day.
There was this 10th century arab traveller who wrote into an account that the fine trade furs come from a land where the night only lasts one hour in the summer and the sun doesn't rise at all in the winter, people use dogs to travel, and where children have white hair. I don't think I'd believe something like that either if I didn't live here.
