thinking about nest trio dynamics makes me so insane because what do you mean the first thing riko said to kevin at kathy’s show was “you’ve gained weight.” what do you mean in older drafts kevin’s hair was long because riko liked it that way. what do you mean riko’s final straw to hurt kevin permanently was because kevin and jean spoke french to each other. what do you MEAN jean was forced to be in kevin’s shoes when kevin left but he was never expected to be as close to riko as kevin was. literal deadbeat husband (riko) attic wife (kevin) and family dog (jean) dynamics. fascinating and definitely freudian

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

Jean Moreau be like Neil Josten was supposed to be my best friend and I consider that loss to be one of the worst things that ever happened to me. He's one of the select few who I trust to take me and my problems seriously and make good on his promises to me. Unfortunately he is also the fucking antichrist and everything he does is calibrated to spike my blood pressure.

jean moreau is stronger than me bc if KEVIN DAY leaned in and whispered to ask if I could teach him my native languge when he's not watching, it could be our secret, I WOULD'VE FOLDED

i've seen a lot of people talking about how different kevin is from jean's pov and i just have to say that kevin isn't different in tsc, neil just isn't jean.

neil's pov of kevin is more than the simple flip between Kevin Day the Celebrity and Kevin Day the Insufferable Bitch (which is a consistent trait across all three pov's we see kevin trough) or Kevin Day the Coward. i would even go as far as to say that kevin is infinitely more complex through neil's eyes because neil can't decide how he feels about kevin.

for jean it's almost simpler (almost). he loved kevin; 'once upon a time he would have done anything for (kevin)', but then kevin left and jean felt betrayed and abandoned and he wanted to hate kevin but at the end of the day he doesn't. he knows kevin in ways neil doesn't and may never, but to say that we only see kevin's sincere intentions and gentleness through jean's eyes is just incorrect.

kevin and jean can't even speak to each other because before they can ever get anywhere they will have to talk about riko and what riko did to them and in turn the things that made them do to each other. kevin and jean go no contact because that is better than talking about riko, but when neil came back from evermore kevin was willing to revisit those nightmares he'd been running from if neil needed to talk about it and the fact 'that he tried at all was so unexpected neil felt it like a balm to every bruised inch of his skin.'

kevin feels 'bottomless guilt' for leaving jean to riko, he is likely tormented by everything he was forced to standby and watch or even participate in. kevin is broken when neil begins to get to know him in the foxhole court but that gentleness that jean sees, the complexity of kevin's vulnerability and his defensive, detached disposition is just as present in neil's observations. neil is more apprehensive about it than jean, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

Okay i know we’ve all noticed the many, many parallels between Jean and Neil but do u ever think about how Jean and Andrew, after being having their boundaries violently crossed so many times, both found someone who will respect their boundaries at any cost?? do u???

What I think about is that Mary according to Nora was made to marry Nathan (she confirmed it was an arranged marriage to give the Wesininskis and Moriyamas access to Europe and the Hatfords inroads to the States) [it being arranged isn't necessarily an issue if both partners were ok with it BUT she was married off to a dude named The Butcher and was known as the Moriyamas Torture technician and I somehow doubt she actually was given a lot of choice about it to be honest] and based on her age when she died according to Nora's answer on Twitter(she died at 38, and Neil was 17 when she died) she had to have been married off at least by 20 (she would have been 20 when Neil was born) or younger 18-19 and had Neil 1 or 2 years into her marriage.

Same age or around the same age as Jean and Neil now basically (a kid)

And how is forcing her to marry a man known as the Butcher (with his monsterous reputation) and at such a young age, all that different from being sold off the way Elodie, Jean and Neil were?

Mary isn't perfect by a mile, but It does put perspective on her doing everything she could to keep Neil away from that life.

Neil including Jean in his deal with Ichirou. Neil being Jean’s “misplaced forever partner, an unfulfilled promise Jean stopped believing in years ago.” Jean watching out for Neil at Evermore. Neil repaying his debt to Jean by beating Riko. Neil touching his foot to Jean’s to ground him on more than one occasion. Him immediately ordering a hit on Grayson after receiving just a hint of what he’d done to Jean. Neil reminding Jean that Elodie too was a Moreau and that Jean is worth saving. I just can’t do it.

The thing that really strikes me in tsc is that Jean still believes in the 'Perfect Court'. He seems to truly think that Andrew should join them and that Grayson doesn't deserve a place. He refuses to remove his number, not only out of fear, but because he feels he has earned it.

He says as much, repeatedly: I am Jean Moreau. I am perfect Court.

But the Perfect Court is a fallacy. It was never truly about being the best players or playing for the US National team together — It was about marking Riko as number one, and the others as lesser than. It was about Riko marking his property.

Until Jean learns to let go of that lie, he will continue to cling to his number. I hope we see him remove the tattoo marring his face in tsc2 because I need him to understand that he is so much more than property.

He is Jean-Yves Moreau. He is more than what has been done to him. He is a good man.
