Littermate Syndrome - What Is It?
Tumblr media
You may be thinking how much harder can two puppies be from one puppy? Two puppies will entertain each other, keep each other company, and may even help train each other. However, when two puppies from the same litter or even from different litters but are around the same age are adopted together, the chances of Littermate Syndrome are extremely high.
  Littermate Syndrome occurs when two puppies become hyper-bonded. The puppies can become so emotionally dependent upon each another that they have difficulty relating to their humans or other dogs. Learning basic coping mechanisms and picking up on important human–canine communication becomes difficult or impossible for them.
  Early signs of Littermate Syndrome can include fearfulness of unfamiliar people and dogs, intense anxiety when separated from each other, even for brief periods, and difficulty learning basic obedience skills. A more long term concern that may develop is non-stop fighting between the dogs. Bullying and aggression between siblings seems to happen more often than between unrelated dogs, and can get nasty. Most canine behaviorists, trainers, breeders and shelters discourage adopting siblings for these reasons.
When people adopt more than one littermate, the puppies usually do not get proper socialization with other dogs and humans. Training two littermates is not just twice the work, but is also more difficult because the puppies are constantly distracting each other.
If you have already brought home two adorable fluffy puppies, you need to work to avoid Littermate Syndrome. Separating your puppies will help with socialization. They need to bond with their humans, not just their sibling.
Train them separately. This means individual sessions to teach basics – sit, stay and come, as well as walks. This teaches the puppies to look to you as the leader and not rely on each other for direction.
Crate them separately. The crates can be near each other initially, but having one puppy per crate helps them learn to be alone. Gradually increase the distance between the crates until they cannot see each other.
Make separate puppy play dates. This teaches the puppies how to play with other puppies their own age and promotes socialization.
Separate trips to the vet.Allowing your veterinarian to get to know the puppies on an individual basis will help with the puppies well-visits. This also allows the puppies to have a more relaxed experience.
Littermate Syndrome isn’t a foregone conclusion for every pair of puppy siblings. Knowledge and commitment of the dogs’ owner to raise two well-socialized, balanced individual dogs is a major factor in avoiding it. However, consider adopting one puppy who is most likely to fit into your lifestyle, and focus on training and socializing that puppy to insure he becomes the best dog he can be. After your puppy has grown into a well-balanced adult then it may be time to think about adding a second canine to the family.
    Jeri Wagner is a canine behavioral therapist and master trainer. Jeri uses a natural training system leveraging the same communication methods – body language and voice control – that dogs follow as part of their instinctive pack mentality. Training takes place in the home where the problems generally occur. Jeri trains in western Montgomery County, northern Chester County and eastern Berks County. Week-End Update: Old Friends, New Friends
Tumblr media
It was another crazy busy week on the roller-coaster of rescue work as we had so many reminders of the fragility of life. Luckily, we also had happy reminders of what happens when we send ripples of joy while creating happy tails, and how the support of others (we’re talking about the wonderful crew at Prestige Salon) can help us focus on the positive.
Word spread pretty quickly that we had GSD puppies after they were born, so it’s no surprise that all but two were adopted without needing to be posted as available. Our boy Rowen was adopted by an awesome family (with a mini-paw to be, which makes this an extra sweet adoption) and his brother Cedar was adopted by his grandparents which means that Cedar will be Rowen’s uncle. We always get a kick when members of the same extended family adopt from us! Litter mates Ash, Aspen, Holly, Magnolia, Oakley (now Bear) & Sycamore also celebrated their gotcha days this week-end too!
This week’s adoptions gave a chance to visit with some alumni when momma Bindi FKA Willow & Leia FKA Gwen decided to adopt momma Mittens (who promptly changed her name to Snickers. Sweetie-Pie & TLC alum Prue brought her sister Ruby & the rest of the family to adopt Rosie (ow Gato). Also adopted this week were Bingo, Dorothy, Elton, Noah, Savannah, Sissy, Stark, Steven (now Oakley) & Ziva!

  We also received a few updates to share. This being GSD week, we figured we’d start out with some new pics of Max (Maximus) who was adopted a couple of weeks ago

This handsome guy seems to be settling in nicely and we hope to see a bit  more of him as he’s considering fostering for us!
Louie FKA Waldo
Louie FKA Waldo
“We adopted Waldo (now known as Louie) about two months ago. He is a wonderful dog! We couldn’t have asked for a better match. He’s very loving with people, gets along with all dogs, and is starting to learn the difference between “no” and “good boy”!
He’s a great companion and absolutely loves being in the car. He spends a good deal of time in Vermont and he loves to swim! But he’s at his happiest just lying outside in the sun.
Thanks to everyone at TLC. Your instincts were right on when you selected him.”
  Piper FKA Lally
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 16%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“A few updates on Pipes:
Up to 43 pounds now
LOVES to chase squirrels still
No stomach issues in 2018! Woohoo!
Anxiety has largely been curbed by a combination of Prozac, exercise, and our recent move to a little quieter of a neighborhood
Recent highlights for Piper (as pictured) include walking around Philly in the sunny weather, meeting Villanova coach Jay Wright at the Phillies Bark in the Park game, and hanging with her best friend, the bear pillow pet”
  Cooper FKA Laddie
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Cooper is doing great!
He’s 56 lbs and all boy!
Loves his yard, chasing anything that moves, the dog park,
Walks,   Tennis balls (good catcher).  He’s still not affectionate.
Hoping that changes.  He’s also not nice when someone comes to the door
We’re working on that!   We just rescued a 30 lb 4 yr old Sheltie mix and
Coopers being nice and polite.  “
  Prestige Salon, TLC, Suzie, Sasha, Rocco & Baklava
and, of course, we can’t wrap the week up without thanking the staff at Prestige Salon in Wayne for making Cuts For a Cause such a success (and making us all look fabulous)!

Week-End Update: Fun, Friends & Family
Tumblr media
This was a hectic week for us as our events team was busy putting the final touches on our fun Raffles For Ruffs fundraiser. We had an amazing turnout and hope you all had as great a time as we did!
We were also busy taking care of the pups, processing applications and finding furever homes for a bunch of our pups. Millie is happy to announce that not only was she adopted, but so were litter mates Marion, Mary & Mikey!
Also celebrating gotcha days this week were Ares, Blinkie, Dawson, Eliza, Finn, Jill, Lars, Taylor & Thad!

Koba
“I thought you would love this! Koba loves our foster son Antoine! They are seriously Best Buds, and Koba picks out his favorite dog toys and “shares” them with Antoine almost on a daily basis!!! 😍
Koba has always been so gentle, and even protective of Antoine from day one, we really love that they share a special bond.”
    Roni
#gallery-2 margin: auto; #gallery-2 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-2 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-2 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

“Thought it might be interesting to see. Shortly after emailing you updates on Keira FKA Ivanka, we got results back from wisdom panel! While we can see most of these, I was completely shocked to see Chow in her mix!”
   Maggie FKA Thelma
Maggie FKA Thelma
“This is Maggie at her sentry post. She spends her days on the loveseat guarding her home from any and all invaders.  Note the incontinence pads, sometimes she gets carried away and has an accident when the excitement gets to be too much!  She likes to do things her way and she has managed to train me to be obedient  and follow her rules.  YES, Maggie is spoiled and quite the Diva!  I sometimes think she is lonely for other canine companions, she loves it when he cousin dogs visit.  Next door there is a gentle pit bull and she loves to flirt with him through the fence and race around the yard to show him how fast she can run.  I think she has never been an only dog, it was Thelma and Louise then her foster family had several dogs, I hope she is happy and knows she is well loved.  “
  Jeffrey
“Hi there!
 He’s doing great! I’ve been setting my alarm every 3 hours during the night to take him out. He pees right away and goes right back in his crate! He’s quiet all night long.
He’s been getting along great with his 8 year old bulldog brother Watson. Yes, we kept the name Jeffrey, but he’s Sir Jeffrey.   His full name actually is Sir Jeffrey Cumberbatch Huff.
His first vet appointment is 5/25. Please let me know when neutering through “you guys” will be done in June.
Additionally, I expressed interest in wanting to help the organization. I’m thinking email may be the best way to communicate, as I was playing phone tag with someone- can’t recall her name.
I’ll pass pictures along soon. We are so so happy with our little guy. “
  Of course we also have a few pics of last night’s event to share with you as well

Week-End Update: Mother's Day Happy Tails
Tumblr media
While Mother Nature may not be having the best of days, we’re hoping that all the other moms out there are a celebrating joyful Mother’s Day! We know that the pups that were adopted this week were very happy to celebrate their first Mother’s Day in their furever homes and the rest who are still waiting to meet their families are making it clear how much they appreciate their foster moms.
This week Alli FKA Echo decided it was time to put a tag on it to make Hazel her sister. Fitzgerald FKA Darwin came to visit us this week after asking for a little brother and is happy to announce that David has joined their family.
Also adopted this week were: Connie, Crissy, DeeDee, Fausnoch (now Rosie), Fredo (now Griswold), Funder, Joey, Lacy, Lannie, Mandy, Meesha, Missy, Mollie, Puddin & Ronnie!
    #gallery-1 margin: auto; #gallery-1 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-1 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-1 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

  We have some updates to share as well:
Versace FKA Kors (Guess’s pup) & McCall
Versace FKA Kors and McCall
“Thanks! We love them! They have distinct personalities and are a big part of our family! They love to come running when I enter the kitchen. Each one patiently waits their turn to get a treat! Even when their heads are touching side by side, they wait their turn! They are good boys! “
        Ricky FKA Valentino (Guess’s pup)
#gallery-2 margin: auto; #gallery-2 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-2 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-2 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Thanks for thinking of us. We couldn’t love him more! Ricky has been a perfect addition to our family. He loves us, he is so great with our 5 kids and is super trustworthy with them and their friends. He just loves life and we love him!! Ricky loves to go for runs with me and he loves his neighborhood girlfriend Belle and his cousin Winston who he gets to play with a few times a week! He is a very active, happy, healthy guy! We hope to see you soon at one of your events. We will keep in touch and bring him by for a visit!
Thanks again!”
  Kasie
“My grandkids just love Kasie.  She will let them do anything to her which is a good thing since two of them are under 2 years old.
We are trying to break her from jumping on people or nipping at your ankles when you walk away which is harder than we thought.   She’s in training now so I hope it pays off.
Other than that, she is a great dog!”
  Bash
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“I decided to keep his name. He doesn’t seem to know it yet but he will! We’re currently working on house training and basic obedience. He’s a great, cuddly dog! Thanks for bringing him into my life! We have a vet appointment on Thursday!”
Georgie
“I would like to let you know she is adjusting very well . She sleeps on the bed we got for her and she like to go for walks . We also had her to our vet on Tuesday and every thing went well . Thank you so much for a wonderful companion . “
  Podrick FKA Jim B
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Our adopted dog has been settling in quite well! We’ve chosen to name him Podrick, which he has learned incredibly well. I tested the other day, and he no longer responds to “Jim” or “Jim B.” Podrick has seemed to really enjoy our 1mi walk through the woods on our property, which we take twice a day. We’re doing everything we can to keep him active to wear off his never-ending puppy energy. When he’s not out hiking or consuming classical works of literature (aka, chewing on books), he spends his time sleeping on his dog bed, cuddling in our laps, or playing fetch (only in doors, as he’s too excited by all the great smells and distractions outside). Attached, you’ll find a few pictures of Podrick as he’s grown 7lbs in the past 3 weeks.
We’ve chosen to make him a regular at Media Vet, which has him all up to date on his shots and check-ups. He’s properly registered (with the correct name change) on his micro-chip. He’s come a long way in his training, and we’re excited to see how he continues to develop. Consistency is key!”
  Bella FKA Juliette
We’re in frequent contact with Bella’s mom, and she’s been a very busy girl since she was adopted. She recently did a hike with Muddy Pawz, went to a pool party and just got her, somewhat surprising, DNA results back.

New Post has been published on https://tlcrescuepa.com/meet-and-greet-etiquette/
Meet and Greet Etiquette
Tumblr media
You have decided to add another dog into your household. You search local rescue websites, find who think will be a perfect addition to your family. You complete the Rescue’s application and receive the notice that you are approved. Now you want to meet the dog.
  Most rescues host Meet and Greets. These are opportunities for Rescues to highlight the dogs in their foster care. Most Meet and Greets are held at local pet stores or community events. Ask the rescue if the dog you are interested in meeting will be attending a Meet and Greet.
When you attend a Meet and Greet there are some key things to remember:
  Many of the dogs in attendance may have just arrived within a day or so of the event. In these cases, the dogs may still be adjusting to their new foster and/or leash handler.
Meet and Greets can be loud and overwhelming to even the best behaved dog.
If you are there to meet a specific dog for the first time, it is best to come with just the humans of the household.
If your resident dog is not good on leash (pulling, barking, etc.), then leave him at home for the Meet and Greet meeting.
Most rescues will ask you to bring your current dog to the adoption appointment for a more controlled meeting between the dogs.
  Since most Meet & Greets are held in public locations, you may happen upon a Rescue’s Meet and Greet that you didn’t know was occurring. There are a few things to remember if you decide to see the dogs that are in attendance.
  Respect the instructions of the dog handlers. If the dog they are handling appears nervous, scared, timid or shy and the handler asks you to not approach, then respect those instructions and do NOT approach.
If the handler feels you do not have control of your dog and asks you to not approach with your dog, then do NOT approach with your dog.
Do NOT have your dog on a retractable leash. These leashes are not meant to be in small spaces and owners do not have control of their dogs while using them.
Do NOT force an introduction with your dog and the foster dog.
Avoid rushing a dog, approach slowly and relaxed. Respect the personal space of both the dog and handler.
Following these key rules will allow for a more relaxed and pleasant meeting for everyone.

Shep is our love puppy. He sleeps with my youngest son and he can’t wait for my older son to get home from school so he can get his afternoon walk.
Of course, I’m spoiling him too. He’s such a wonderful doggie ❤️”
    June FKA Elsa
“She is doing great and we love her so much! We renamed her June and I think she’s starting to learn it 🙂
We will definitely reach out to Jeri or Eryn with any concerns.
Thanks so so much! “

“Hello! Hondo is doing great. He’s settling in well. He’s met most of the neighbors and their dogs and has gotten along with everyone well. We got a good recommendation on the vet and are hoping to get in this weekend.
Thanks soo much for everything! “
    Peach FKA Felicia
“Hi – It’s going pretty well so far. We need to work on the piddling. She just got done zooming around the house & is now settled down for a snooze.  She has her 1st vet appointment next Wednesday as my vet is on vacation this week. I’ve decided her name should be Peach since she’s a southern girl from MS.”
  Lilly FKA Santana

“Santana was renamed to Lilly and she is doing well with her cat and dog sisters and brothers.Attached is Lilly and her brother and sister getting ready for the Superbowl.”
        Lucy FKA Olivia & McGee
“Olivia, now known as Lucy, is doing fantastic! She is so chill, and goes with the flow. She likes our 15 yr Italian Greyhound, Flash, and licks him whenever the opportunity presents itself. Mc Gee is very sweet, and wants constant stroking. He is not a fan of the crate, but we are working on it.   Lucy has been teaching McGee her  boundaries as well, he lays all over her, and lets him know when she has had it.
In addition, both dogs are uninterested in our cats which is great!
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give  2 dogs a loving, permanent home. Our family looks forward to many happy years ahead with Lucy and McGee.”

“Louis’ new name is Zeke. He’s actually starting to learn it. He has picked up on “sit” pretty fast as well. He’s pretty much settled in, as shown below! It was a great experience with TLC, very quick and efficient. I’m sure Zeke will be needing a friend in the future since he loves to play with other dogs so I’m sure we’ll be back! 😉 “
  Murphy FKA Brad Pupsley
#gallery-9 margin: auto; #gallery-9 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-9 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-9 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Murphy has been a part of our family for 8 weeks now. We love him so much. He is still working on his manners, lol. He can do a 4-5’ vertical jump and still loves his balls! Sometimes his ears are standing up, other times flopped down, sometimes one of each. He makes us laugh every day!”

Which Dog Treats Should you Give to your dog?
Tumblr media
OK you don’t want to give him the whole thing, but vegies aren’t a bad treat for a dog
Most people want to feed their dog a healthy diet. They will research and research until they find the food they feel is best and fits into their budget. What most people don’t realize is that the pet food industry lacks in regulations, which can allow for some distortion of ingredient quality. This is true for dog food and dog treats. Although the United States has more stringent regulations compared to other countries.
Treat is just that, a treat. It is not your dog’s main sustenance. I recommend giving your dog a healthy treat, think graham cracker versus chocolate chip cookie. Certain fruits and vegetables are also healthy snacks.
  You give your dog a treat because it makes you feel good and you want to make him to be happy. You are not giving the treat because your dog did something for you, and you are not feeding him dinner. A treat is not is not meant to be something big or something that you give him because he is hungry.
  Whatever you want to give your dog as a treat, as long as it is not harmful to him, he is not demanding or begging for it, or in large quantities, is fine. Always check the country of origin, and if it says “Made in the U.S.A.” then it most likely is of better quality.
  When giving your dog a treat, remember that it is because YOU want to give it to him. Make it small so that it is not a meal. Mix up the treats so that you don’t have to always have one type of goodie on hand.
  We feed our dogs a healthy diet and that is our responsibility as their protector and care giver

Week-End Update: Soaking Up Some Art
Tumblr media
The 45th annual Yellow Springs Art Show opened on Friday night and we were happy to have spend much of the day there, soaking up some culture and meeting new friends, today. Spending the day helping make happy tails come true was a nice way for us to pay tribute to our fallen comrade in arms, Jennifer Care, who passed away from Multiple Myeloma overnight. Jenn had fostered for us and we knew that she enjoyed hearing updates of our alumni and knowing how they’d found the perfect furever families, who would love them as much as she did.
We wrapped up the day focused helping more dogs celebrate gotcha days, including Olivia & McGee who were overjoyed to be adopted together!
Also adopted this week were: Arianna (now Coraline aka Cori), Charlie Borwn, Debra, Dooney, Elsa (now June), Finn, Heidi, Hondo, Louis, Roni & Winkie!

“He is fitting in nicely. He was very timid the first night but is getting more comfortable each day. He doesn’t seem to know how to play but that will come. He gets along with my other 2 dogs and my border collie mix got him running with her a bit today. He loves to cuddle and exploring our backyard.  He is such a love. We know he will get less timid with time and love. We adore him.”
   Flint FKA Mark (M litter from July 2017)

 “I thought you might like to see Flint celebrating his first birthday.
We adopted Flint last July and we couldn’t love him more. Today we celebrated his first birthday with some apple and peanut butter cake and a new toy. He also received a nice birthday card from Mickey’s Pet Supplies – great toys and made in the USA treats!
Thank you so much for letting Flint into our lives – we hope you enjoy the video! “
  Beanie (Mittens’ pup) & Remington FKA Danny
Beanie and Remington FKA Danny
“I recently adopted Beanie from TLC and before that Remington (fka Danny). They are both doing great and love each other a lot! “
        Bruno FKA Dior (Guess puppy)
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“So we are totally in love with Bruno!!”
  Cap AKA Cappuccino
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Cappuccino is settling in very well! Her and our old dog Taz are getting along well! They are always within a few steps of each other and seem to enjoy their time together.
We now call her Cap for training purposes but we kept her full name as Cappuccino.
She has been to the vet twice! Once for her first checkup and another time today as moral support for her brother. She did have giardia but that’s not super surprising for pups so easy treating!
She is super smart and has mastered “sit””lay down” and “touch” in a week! Wow. “
    Kara FKA Carolina
#gallery-5 margin: auto; #gallery-5 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-5 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-5 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Kara FKA Carolina celebrated her 1-year adopt-iversary and sent us some pics
  Fenway FKA Izzy AKA Doc (Avery pup)
“Izzy is settling in very nicely, she’s making herself right at home, which is a good thing. We love her already, she’s a sweetie! We are changing her name to Fenway. I will definitely be sending updates.”
  Odie
#gallery-6 margin: auto; #gallery-6 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-6 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-6 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Odie is doing great! (yes, I am keeping the name)
He is getting plenty of exercise at the park…and is taking to his crate training well.
This Saturday we start a 6 week puppy training course in Quakertown.
Odie will be meeting with a vet at Banfield on Thursday for a general exam(free through Petsmart)…and then I am going to get a vet appointment in Allentown for his permanent vet.
He is now done with the 3 syringes I was given for him…so I am going to set the appointment for 2 weeks and bring in a stool sample.
Odie is a huge hit around the apartment complex, and is getting much more comfortable with his surroundings.
I’ve attached some pics for you.
Thanks for everything!”
  Harley
Harley
“He really is a wonderful dog. Very affectionate, but also protective. Does not like new people coming into the house. We are trying to adjust his thinking some by going to Manners classes starting tonight.  He gets along really well with our other TLC rescue dog Bree. They play all of the time and keep each other company.
As you might remember Harley is a dwarf, but he has grown into a lot of his awkwardness. His front legs are a bit shorter than his back and are bowed but that does not stop him.
  Attached is a recent picture of him. Thank you for bring these wonderful dogs into our lives.”
  Daisy FKA Aliza
#gallery-7 margin: auto; #gallery-7 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-7 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-7 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“She is settling in great. The kids love her. We changed her name to Daisy 🙂 Our cat Tiki is not so sure about her but not hiding just checking things out. I do want to reach out to the trainer because she did chase the cat last night and I want to make sure we handle them getting used to each other properly. I need to call the vet and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. I attached a couple of pics. The one in the car was the same day we picked her up she was so happy!”
  Quincy
#gallery-8 margin: auto; #gallery-8 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-8 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-8 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Thank you for reaching out. Quincy, we did keep his name, is doing well. We are having a few issues here and there but I am hoping with time we can work them out.
He seems to be a very finicky eater, I can’t get him to eat on a consistent basis, but I work for a vet so we are keeping a close eye on that and his weight.
He does like to mark and has done so in the house once so far.
He is doing great with my cats, sometimes he wants to chase for fun but I am not at all worried about him with my cats. However, he is not as friendly as we think when it comes to some dogs. He picks and chooses who he wants to like. I am not too worried about that, in the perfect world they would all get along but I know this world isn’t perfect.
He is great with my kids, husband and most people. He does “question” some people when we are out for walks, but again, I think he is just trying to figure things out.
I have been working with a pet behaviorist already due to my insatiable Border Collie Charlie, but I will reach out if there is something we just can’t figure out. After all…..it takes a village, right?
Below are a couple pics of him. I will send more once my daughter, the photographer of the family, sends me them off her phone.”
  Tate
#gallery-9 margin: auto; #gallery-9 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-9 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-9 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“We did decide to keep Tate’s name, and she’s doing great. Everyone who meets her loves her. It’s hard to get good pics of a black dog, but here are some.”
  Lola
Lola
“Lola is doing great.  We love her and her new brother and sister do as well.  One big happy family.  Thank you so much for bringing her into our family. “
        Lenny FKA Lynard
“Lenny is doing great!  He and Bella are best friends now and Lenny turns out to be the more affectionate of the two.  He prefers to come and sit next to us on the couch or the bed but he will let us snuggle with him for a couple minutes when we choose to also.  Once he understood he had access to good quality food he is sometimes a picky eater but I think he is at a good weight now and they get plenty of exercise as the yard is large and completely fenced.  It also turns out he loved to play in the snow over the winter but doesn’t like the rain.  Thank you for following up and finding Lenny for us.  We love him so much and I know the feeling is mutual.  I will send pictures later in the spring or the summer.”
  Czech FKA Blossom
#gallery-10 margin: auto; #gallery-10 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-10 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-10 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“We did change the name. We are calling her “Czech.” Story behind that is my daughter was accepted to Northeastern University in Boston. I was more pulling for Pitt, since I saw I was losing, I said if she goes to Northeastern, I get a new dog! The name comes because her first semester will be in Prague in the Czech Republic! Strange, but true!
As far as training, she’s progressing in potty training. She is usually clean at night, I rush her out and she does her thing. She still has pee accidents at least once a day, but getting there.
My concern is her biting! I wanted her to be a companion for my other dog, but the other dog stays away from her because the pup tries to use Roxie as a chew toy!!  I’m sure she will grow out of it, but I hope it doesn’t take long. I’m sure the other chewing issues will change when Czech get her new teeth.
Besides that, we are loving her.  She’s a great pup and is becoming part of the family!  She loves sleeping on one of us!  Attached is a picture of her favorite position!!”
  Elvis
#gallery-11 margin: auto; #gallery-11 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-11 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-11 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Elvis is doing great- and it felt right to keep his name.
He’s a very good boy- learns quickly and we are certain he is happy! Thank you so much! “
  Daisy FKA Erica
#gallery-12 margin: auto; #gallery-12 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-12 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-12 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Erica, now Daisy, is doing very well! I scheduled her vet appointment, and I’m looking into puppy training classes in the South Jersey area- there is a Bark Busters closer to us, in Deptford, and they take puppies at 5 Months. Daisy does really well in her crate, and aside from a few accidents here and there, she does pretty well with house training, too. I attached some pics. She is very affectionate (as you can see in the pic of her sleeping in my lap), and we love her already. Thank you for checking in and for all that you guys do. We really had a positive experience working with TLC. :)”

Week-End Update: We have the best volunteers!
Tumblr media
Well, another week is in the books and it was a pretty good one – especially as it was Volunteer Appreciation Week and we at TLC have the best volunteers who are greatly appreciated! We took a teeny break from the pups Friday night to celebrate all the lives we save together and then were right back up, bright & early, getting more dogs out of shelters and helping a bunch get settled in with their furever families!
Our beautiful Catahoula mix, Layla, is happy to announce that she’s settling into her home and has changed her name to Kelly. Also adopted this week were: Aliza, Anna, BB (who moved in with TLC alumnus Peanut FKA Wynn), Bella, Cappuccino, Eddie, Elliott, Elvis, Erica, Espresso, Fitty, Izzy, Odie & Quincy!
#gallery-1 margin: auto; #gallery-1 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-1 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-1 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

  As always, we have some pupdates to share with you as well:
Penny FKA Sandy
  #gallery-2 margin: auto; #gallery-2 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-2 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-2 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“I am incredibly thankful TLC has allowed me to adopt Penny because it has been one of the best years of my life. In our first year together, Penny has gone hiking, explored the city, created new dog friends and spent time at the dog park.
I appreciate the available resources TLC has in case I ever need. In the meantime, please check out some of Penny’s photos in her first year 🙂 We also have an Instagram account @harperandpenny where my friend and I post pics every so often.
Thank you again for being a part of bringing Penny and I together. Have a great weekend! “
  Mack FKA McDoodle
“Mack (as we now call her) is fitting in nicely in our house. She is a sweet, calm girl who is settling in to our routine while we learn hers. We’re really happy to have found her. She has a vet appointment next week, and we’ve confirmed her chip.  She is very nervous about moving vehicles, so it’s quite a chore to walk her. Maybe a trainer would be able to help with that. I guess she’s a country dog. “
 We’ve put Mack’s moms in touch with our trainers for some advice
Alvin & Sadie
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Alvin
Sadie
“Hello, I have been meaning to send pics and give an update, but life happens. Alvin and Sadie are doing well. They can be bratty teenagers at times but they are very loving as well! Our cats still don’t want anything to do with them either! They get along well and keep us entertained every day. Thank you for everything you do for these animals!”
  Kipper
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Kipper has acclimated seamlessly into our family. We can’t imagine life without her…  Here are some pics.”
  Bella FKA Juliette
#gallery-5 margin: auto; #gallery-5 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-5 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-5 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Hi guys, Bella and I are enjoying our walks.  She’s went to day school a couple days this week and meet some new friends.  She’s sleeping good at night.  We’re going to do the MVA 5k in May.  I’m also looking into getting us Phillies tickets to bark in the park.  Have a great weekend!!”
  Ellie
Ellie b/t Sophie & Moochie
“Here’s a pic of Elie resting comfortably between Sophie and Moochie.  Sophie seems very caring toward Ellie, and Moochie loves playing with her.”
        Kirby
“Thanks for checking in. Kirby is a wonderful dog and we all love him. He is getting better on the leash (we use a gentle leader and it helps)I am an appraiser and he comes with us on all of our jobs and LOVES to ride in the car! Our grandchildren think he is super and he is great with them. Could not have found a better addition to our family.”
Polly FKA Mrs Howell (Gilligan’s Island litter)
#gallery-6 margin: auto; #gallery-6 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-6 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-6 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Mrs Howell, now known as Polly, is settling in well! She seems to be overcoming her cough and hookworms, she has her vet check next Monday, so we’ll see how she’s doing. A special thanks to Erin for answering some questions about her medicine, and following up on the antibiotic meds that were mailed to us. “
  Rose
#gallery-7 margin: auto; #gallery-7 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-7 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-7 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Hi- so far all is good!  She doesn’t have a name yet, although we are having fun trying to decide!  We will be seeing the vet tomorrow.
Here are a few pics— thanks!”
  Ripley FKA Felix
#gallery-8 margin: auto; #gallery-8 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-8 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-8 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Felix’s name is now Ripley.  He is setting in well, and I have lots of photos. I’ve attached a few.
As for training, I would love to have a conversation with Eryn and talk about how best to work through any issues and improve obedience. So far, our challenges are that he is very bitey when playing, barking when not giving him attention, potty training, and a tiny bit of leg humping.  Overall, he is doing great, sleeping through the night, is super sweet, very smart, loves fetch, and has shown to be great with kids and other dogs (though he is very mouthy and loud with the dogs -but he is a puppy 🙂  But I’d love any support or possibly setting up time together.
Thank you so much for making Ripley become a reality. We’re getting closer every day.”
 Ripley’s dad is in touch with our trainers so get him through his puppy nipping phase
  Ryder FKA Footie
#gallery-9 margin: auto; #gallery-9 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-9 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-9 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“He is such a burst of energy and is one crazy playful puppy! I did rename him to Ryder! He is slowly getting a routine down and has a lot to learn. But He already has learned to sit, lay down and shake! He loves playing tug of war with his rope and going on hikes and walks and playing with his brother and sister.
I’m so glad that I adopted him! Thanks so much for all that you guys do to foster these pups and take the time to find them good homes! “
  Maddie
#gallery-10 margin: auto; #gallery-10 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-10 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-10 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Maddie (l)
“Hi,
Just to give a quick update. We adopted Maddie on Dec 3. She is doing great settling in with her new best friend Lucy and the kids. She is playful, naughty and a little fearful of strangers at first. We are working on it. She loves her neighbors Eddie, Daisy and newest addition Cami.
We had a dna test done and she is a great mix. She is a mix of Eddie and Cami.”
  Cinder FKA Uhura
Cinder FKA Uhura
“I am 6 months old now and here is a good pic of how I have grown.I am good .most of the time put I love to tear newspaper and toilet paper up into little shreds and very quickly !!we r going to a flea market tomorrow..hope I see some friends.. 🐾talk soon”
      Cassie FKA Asia
#gallery-11 margin: auto; #gallery-11 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-11 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-11 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
A few of us get to see Cassie along with her sisters Lucy & TLC alum, Emily (Eleanor’s pup) every so often since the pups like to show off their skills as exercise motivators/cheer leaders at their mom & dad’s gym. Cassie was posted as a Beagle-Pointer mix, and based on her DNA results, we were partially correct . . .

Week-End Update: You're hot then you're not . . .
Tumblr media
As disappointed as we are at the bone-chilling cold & rain today, we are glad that Mother Nature had her act together long enough to make yesterday a beautiful day for Woofstock 2. We can’t thank Osteria and Anthony Costello enough for putting this event together for us! We’re hoping Mother Nature gets her act together to provide us with equally nice weather this Thursday as we head to Terra Culture Gifts for Malvern Strolls.
In the meantime we’ll bask in the glory from a week full of adoptions, including the beautiful Bit Bit, Blossom, Celine, Ellie, Felix, Footie, Gillingan, Gynger, Jim B, Juliette (now Bella), McDoodle, Mrs. Howell, Polly, Possum, Rose, Thurston, Violet & Waldo!

  Of course, we also have some updates to share with you too:
Shemma FKA Bonnie
#gallery-26 margin: auto; #gallery-26 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-26 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-26 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“We just wanted to send a quick update as it’s Shemma’s (FKA Bonnie) 2nd birthday today! She enjoyed a long walk around the neighborhood, an extra treat (or two), and a new squeaky toy to celebrate her big day! Since our last update over a year ago, Shemma gained twin (human) sisters last July and she’s the best big sister ever! She loves the girls and showers them with puppy kisses and is incredibly patient with them—even now that they’re crawling and try to steal her toys! Our family just wouldn’t be complete without her and we continue to be incredibly thankful for To Love a Canine rescue for saving her and allowing us to welcome her into our home. She is the best pup and the most perfect fit in our family. “
  Keira FKA Ivanka
#gallery-27 margin: auto; #gallery-27 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-27 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-27 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“I know it’s only been 2 months with Keira now, but she just completed basic obedience class tonight, and is heading into teens 2. I dropped her off at day training and the professional trainers kept telling me how great of a dog she is, and how quickly she learns things, they even started teaching her a few new things because she catches on so quickly. Every person who meets Keira just keeps saying how lucky we are to have found her: she is super well behaved, follows most commands and is super loving. She still has her puppy/teen issues like chewing some things she shouldn’t but she is such a great addition to our little family!
She has already been hiking with us, to rugby games, breweries, family events and she adapts to her surroundings very well. She has so much more potential with us continuing her training as well!”
  Zeus
#gallery-28 margin: auto; #gallery-28 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-28 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-28 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Zeus is doing great!   We sent a few pics to Jen Catrambone a while ago but I attached a few more.  Zeus and his sister Gabby absolutely love each other.  They literally are inseparable and play outside constantly!   Zeus is an amazing dog.  He’s loves to play and is everyone’s friend.
We couldn’t be happier with him!!!”
  Luna FKA Nyrobi
#gallery-29 margin: auto; #gallery-29 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-29 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-29 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“We did change her name to Luna and she is doing great!  We could not have found a better puppy for our home.
She does a vet appointment at 12 today and we may be looking into doing some training with Jeri, just to make sure we are on the right track.
I have attached 2 pictures to show how well she is adjusting.  :)”
  Remi FKA Athena
#gallery-30 margin: auto; #gallery-30 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-30 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-30 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Remi is doing great!  I have attached 2 pictures.”
  Mack FKA Skipper (Gilligan’s Island litter)
Mack FKA Skipper
““Skipper “ now Mack is doing awesome!  He actually slept from 10-5 last night which was an unexpected bonus.  He is mild mannered and wearing himself out playing with Lucy.  (she seems too distracted to lick the way she was doing before)
Working on house training.  He’s so darn cute and curious.
We have a vet appointment this afternoon.  To get him checked out.
Thank you for a wonderful adoption experience 😁”
  Murphy FKA Terk
Murphy FKA Terk
“Murphy (fka Terk) enjoy the warm weather! We’ve had him 3 months! He starts training classes this week. He’s already 6 months! He’s shaping up to be a great dog. He’s very smart, crate trained and housebroken ”
      Max
#gallery-31 margin: auto; #gallery-31 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-31 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-31 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Max is doing amazing! He is getting along really well with our other dog Blue and he has learned to ignore my guinea pigs. We had the backyard fenced in so Max and Blue can run and play. We will be taking them on some camping trips soon too. Max had a great time taking an obedience class and a tricks class with Peppers Paws dog training. He is an amazing, loving dog and we are so happy to give him a forever home!”
  Wiley FKA Joseph
Wiley FKA Joseph
“Wiley and I are doing great!  He is such a little love.  He is coming along really well in all his training classes and is in a walking club on the weekends.  And, he loves day camp at Wagsworth.  He is such a wonderful furbaby.  Here is a picture of him from this year’s Christmas card.”
      Calvin FKA Sam
“Calvin (formally known as Sam) is doing great! We just moved to a new house in the city and he’s transitioning very well, only peed on the floor twice. We plan to transition him out of the crate during the day and hope to put a baby gate up to keep in the kitchen for now at least becUse he climbs furniture and tables and chews things when he’s alone. but he can jump over and climb every gate we’ve tried. Do you have any ideas on that??”
Editor’s note: we’ve referred Calvin’s mom to our trainers
Dixie
#gallery-32 margin: auto; #gallery-32 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-32 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-32 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“My husband and I were just saying the other night that we feel like we have had Dixie longer than 6 months!  She is just such a big part of our family now, and she loves everyone she meets. She goes to my son’s college baseball games and plays or at least is social with the other dogs there (she has her favorite!). She had already rid our yard of one mouse and one mole, the CAT(ahoula) in her name should have been a sign!!  We just started daycare to get rid of some of that energy, still a little nervous but I am sure as the weather gets warmer and the dogs get to go outside she will feel at home. She loves the snow…we could leave her outside for hours and she would not get bored…but we get cold so she has to come in!
We are so happy to have rescued her, can’t imagine my life without here. “
  Chloe FKA Dixie
Chloe FKA Dixie
“Chloe fka Dixie is great! She has settled in wonderfully & is the greatest little girl
Loves walks, sticks, and is particularly fond of her favorite stuffed animal squirrel!
 She is still a little submissive but becoming bolder all the time & is great w everyone she meets
Here she is all ready for bed”

“I wanted to pass along an update about Sasha, who we adopted in September!
Sasha has made a wonderful addition to our family. She is definitely a ‘daddy’s girl’, and I don’t know what my husband would do with out her at this point!
As you can see by the pictures, she loves naps on the couch, and if she sees a squirrel through the window or on a walk it definitely gets her attention! She has been great with all of our nieces and nephews, as well as the other dogs in our extended families. She is a gentle goofball, and has mastered every trick we have taught her. Thank you all again for what you do, and for bringing Sasha into our lives!”

“I am keeping her name the same.  I do have a vet appointment on Friday with Dr. Hanning.  I have kept in touch with Beth, her foster mother and overall she is adjusting well.  I have attached some photos of her from her first day until today.”
  Susie Q
#gallery-35 margin: auto; #gallery-35 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-35 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-35 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Hello! Thank you for checking in! I did get a call a few weeks back also. Susie Q is doing wonderful!! She is the perfect addition to our family and we love her so much!
She enjoys snuggles with the kids and walks with her house mate Baxter. She all around just the sweetest dog! She is also a mommy’s girl and stays by my side but loves a good head rub from her daddy too! She is funny and has such a great disposition! We love her to pieces! Thanks again! 😊”

“Hi! Thanks for checking in! Vincent is adorable! Our Doberman Kavi likes having him around too! They can’t wait for warmer weather and getting back to the park to run!! I’m attaching a recent pic of them.”
  Zoey FKA Juno
“Hello TLC family!!
We wanted to share a video of our Zoey’s first birthday!
On March 17th we took her for a day trip to the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge. Zoey experienced her first bridge, goose poop, kayaker and more. She is a beautiful dog full of  much happiness and love for the world around her.
Fred and I will always be grateful to TLC for bringing her into our lives!”

Week-End Update: Memo To Mother Nature
Tumblr media
We’re pretty glad that Mother Nature spared us from snow yesterday since it meant our pack walk with our buddies at Buds went on as planned (and everybody had an awesome time)!
When our Kelly came to us we thought she was nearing the end of her pregnancy but quickly became aware something was amiss. Sadly we had to take her to our friends at VRC where we discovered the pregnancy was not meant to be and she needed an emergency hysterectomy. This sweet girl was a total champ through her whole ordeal and recovery, so we really happy to announce that it didn’t take her too long to find the perfect furever family for herself.
Also adopted this week were: Awesome, Felicity, Hammer, Harley, Latte, Lawson, Maryanne, Mr Needles, Nettie (now Athena), Nyrobi, the Professor, Sidney, Skipper, and the last of Mittens’ pups, Socks.
  #gallery-1 margin: auto; #gallery-1 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-1 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-1 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

  We also have some pupdates to share with you:
  Macy

“So we recently bought beach house and decided to go down for a weekend. Macy loved the beach!”
  Speaking of Macy, we also received updates on/pics of  her pups!
  Ruckus FKA Donald (Macy’s pup)
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Hi!! I had a missed call from Erin last week checking on Ruckus and haven’t been able to connect with her so thought I shoot an email over.
We LOVE Ruckus (fmk as Donald). He is seriously the absolute best puppy! Training has gone great, he’s not a barker, fantastic on walks, crate trained during day and takes turns sleeping with kids at night. He is Mr. Personality and the the happiest puppy! Loves going to the kids baseball/softball games (I think he loves the attention he gets!). We couldn’t be happier with him. He’s a big boy…tall and long and hit the 70 lb mark this week.
We found out several weeks ago too what his DNA is: German Shepherd, boxer, American bulldog, English bulldog, and American staffordshire terrier.
We also see his Mom, Macy, a couple days a week now. They are great together! Would love to know how his siblings are doing and hoping they found wonderful homes too. ”
Keagan FKA Porky (Macy’s pup) & Eanna
Keegan FKA Porky and Eanna
“Just dropping by with a great pic of our two TLC pups.
Eanna (on the right adopted June 2014) is celebrating her 4th birthday today.
Keagan (AKA Porky…on the left…adopted Dec 2017) is being a great “little” brother although at 7 months old is over double her weight now at just shy of 65 lbs.”

  Odin FKA Athos
“So far so good. He has been doing great with our other dog. He has only had a handful of accidents in the house and is taking to crate training very well. We named him Odin. He is very timid and skittish but we are working with him and socializing him to get him used to new things.”
  Luna FKA Barbie & Theo FKA Liam
“Luna and Theo were a great match and playing very well together.  She fits into our family perfectly and loves to snuggle and even try to lay with Theo, which ends up with them both wanting to play. It is so cute watching the two of them.”
  Delilah FKA Nora
“We have renamed our girl to Delilah, a mutual decision by all of our children.
She had her first vet visit last week.   All looks good,  we are just awaiting test results, which came in today and she has hookworm and some yeast.  We immediately started her on meds and will re-test in 4 weeks.
Otherwise, she is doing fantastic and we all love her to pieces!”
  Editor’s note: one of the reasons we recommend our adopter’s take their new pup to their vet within 2 weeks of adoption. Even though we put dogs through a de-worming protocol, there are times they do need another round of de-worming
  Chloe & Louie
#gallery-5 margin: auto; #gallery-5 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-5 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-5 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“We just wanted to update you on their great progress. It didn’t take long for them to become members of our family. They are very sweet, lovable, and affectionate. Even Chloe, who was very reserved initially, warmed up quickly, both to us and to her new canine brother Louie. She loves to play with him…on her terms. We believe that they know they have found their forever home. They are very protective of their family and have made friends with the neighborhood dogs. They love going on walks especially to the dog park. In July they will have their first vacation to the beach! Thank you for helping us find our new, little family members! We attached some pictures for you guys. “
  Chief FKA Lidge
#gallery-6 margin: auto; #gallery-6 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-6 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-6 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“He is doing very well. He doesn’t like the cage very much though. We changed his name to chief. “
  Xany FKA Natalie
#gallery-7 margin: auto; #gallery-7 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 16%; #gallery-7 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-7 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Thanks so much for following up!  I’ve been putting off responding to this email because I wanted to get together all of the pictures we have of Natalie (there are SO many).  She’s settling in wonderfully — she is honestly the most well-behaved and calm puppy I have ever been around.
We changed her name to Xany, and she’s already learned it quickly!
Again, thanks so much to TLC as an organization for making this process so painless.  Everyone I interacted with was so kind and helpful.  Xany is such a perfect girl, she’s already changed our lives so much, and everyone that meets her just falls in love with her.
She’s so well-loved & such a happy girl.  Attached are some pictures!”
  Bert Macklin FKA Bert
Bert Macklin
“We are very happy we were able to give Bert his forever home. We kept his name, just added a middle name, Bert Macklin. He is settling in well. He is now getting comfortable and is starting to act more and more like a puppy. He is not happy when he is in his crate. He has a vet appointment on Friday. “
  Harry
“Harry is so great and we couldn’t have asked for a better dog! He is very mellow and just loves attention. We plan to keep his name since he responds to it and is a bit older.
Harry seems to be adjusting pretty well all things considered. m His foster family went away for the holiday right before we got him so he may be feeling a bit overwhelmed and not realizing this is his forever home!
His vet appointment is on Monday and I’ll double check the microchip as well. In terms of training/Jeri – are we able to reach out with general questions or is that more for like setting up a training appt or attending a class?
We’ll also share pictures of Harry soon!”
  Editor’s note: our trainers are available to our adopters for phone & email support, and adopters can feel free to contact them directly
   Campbell
Campbell
“Thank you for your follow up on Campbell.  We did keep his name Campbell since he seemed to recognize it and respond to it, plus, much like himself, we thought it was very cute. 😊  Campbell is doing really well.  He met Dr. Banks on Monday morning and aside from a little cold or respiratory infection, he is in perfect health.  Neither Jeff nor myself can get over how smart this little bundle of fur really is… we watch him figure out all kinds of things, both good and bad (he is a very curious puppy after all).  We have all been working with him to keep up his good manners and socialization… again, he is a very smart puppy.  As for our cat, Jason, the two have yet to really bond, but things definitely look promising as Jason has started not really caring where Campbell is in the house.  They have also (maybe by accident, maybe not) actually shared the bed… albeit on opposite sides of me, but I can’t complain about all the cuddles from my two fur babies and after only just under a week.
We love Campbell completely and feel like he’s the perfect fit for our family.  He has more toys and love than he knows what to do with.  We are still figuring out this whole “why do I need to stay in a crate again” thing, but we’re getting the hang of it and it’s not so bad anymore… in fact, it’s actually pretty nice for taking naps in and hiding all our new toys.  We’ve made quite a few new friends, both human and of the fur variety and everyone seems to love us, so we can’t wait until my little furry brother arrives to join our pack in two weeks.  We will be sure to share some pictures.
We want to thank Campbell’s foster family(s) and TLC Rescue for taking such good care of him and for first rescuing him from the shelter.  Campbell sends his love and kisses as thanks as well.
PS – See photo for tired-out puppy in his natural habitat.”
  Zoe FKA Latte
#gallery-8 margin: auto; #gallery-8 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-8 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-8 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“She is doing very good.  We renamed her Zoe.  She has her first appointment with the vet tomorrow afternoon.  Here are some pics of the new family member settling in.”
  Frankie FKA Magnum (Penny’s pup – Magnum PI litter)
#gallery-9 margin: auto; #gallery-9 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-9 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-9 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Frankie’s been doing great! We are wrapping up our third obedience class series, and will begin CGC training next week! He’s been a delight, and has several close doggy friends he sees daily for play dates. His favorite acitivities include hiding my shoes and protecting our home from squirrels he sees outside the window. I don’t know how I got this far in life without him. :)”
  Louie (June FKA Ariel’s pup)
#gallery-10 margin: auto; #gallery-10 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-10 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-10 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Louie is doing great! Some pictures attached.”
    Oreo FKA Klay
“Everything has been wonderful with my new friend.  I have ended up naming him Oreo, and he has been an amazing companion, and is loved by my friends and family!  He has just turned one year old, and seems to now be full grown at a healthy 60 lbs.   Thank you and your organization for all the excellent work you do, adopting Oreo has been one of the best decisions in my life.  I have enclosed a few pictures of him in case you were curious how he ended up looking as a full grown dog.
Thank you again for all your help, I really appreciate it!”
  Jagger FKA Jenner
#gallery-11 margin: auto; #gallery-11 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-11 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-11 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Thought I would give you an update on Jenner, who’s name is now Jagger.  First of all, we love him!  He’s such a total sweety! He plays with our other dog all the time, and we are so happy we added him to our family.
I’ve attached some pictures of him in the snow, playing with our other dog Tyson, and also at our beach house he loves looking out the low window. Our older dog we just lost loved those windows too.
I also wanted to let you know we did his DNA test and he has a crazy mix!  He is majority Husky, and then 10-20% each of these three breeds- Border Terrier (see this in his face), Bulldog (don’t see this at all), and the craziest- Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (??) the funniest thing is he doesn’t really bark normal, he tends to do a high pitched whine bark instead, which we learned is a trait of the Duck Tollers! They have a “scream”.  So, let me tell you when he sees a cat outside that window that scream comes out!
Thank you for rescuing this sweetheart of a pup.  He just loves exploring the backyard, going on walks, going for rides and viewing the world. I can’t imagine him being in a shelter for so long.  This summer we’ll see how he likes hanging on the beach! He has some serious webbed feet so we’ll see if he likes water at all.
Thank you for all the wonderful work you do!
  PS Jagger thinks he’s a lap dog. :)”
  Wolfgang FKA Beethoven
Wolfgang FKA Beethoven
“On 4/6/2014 Wolfgang became a part of out family. He is more than we could have ever asked for. He introduced us to This great organization that we are now a part of. He truly changed our lives and we are forever grateful.”

Tumblr media
A problem that many of my clients want addressed with their dogs is proper table manners. They don’t want their dog to beg for “people food”. However, there are many times when people are at the table, when there is no food present, and will give their dog lots of attention, even calling the dog up on their laps.
  In other instances, there may be that one person who sneaks the dog “people food” under the table or even place it the dog food bowl. To combat this behavior, the owners may give the dog “dog food” in bowl so the dog thinks she is getting her own food and not “people food”. One problem with this line of thinking is that she eats the food from the bowl and then is right back at the table. Another problem is that the dog is not discerning the difference between “dog food” and “people food”. If you think about it, there is little difference between “dog food” and “people food”. Looking at the ingredients on healthy dog food bags, the ingredients read chicken, fish, venison, vegetables, etc. These are the same foods that people eat. The food from the dog food bag just looks different. So to your dog it is just food and she wants it.
In the dog world feeding is based on the social structure. The strongest dog (the leader) always eats first and the rest can have whatever is left over or given to them by the leader. When your dog sees you as the leader, she will never beg for food because that is not allowed from someone in her position of the pecking order. When your dog is begging from the table she is telling the family that she is the leader and is demanding her food. When you give her food, you are reinforcing that perception. This will only get worse over time because of the repetitive nature of how dogs learn. Your dog will escalate her begging to crawling on your lap as you are eating, jumping for the plates as they are brought to the table, and counter surfing as the food is being prepared.
To teach your dog to have better table and kitchen manners, you need to create a rule and reinforce that rule consistently. The best way to easily accomplish this is to establish an imaginary boundary around the table that your dog is not allowed to cross anytime you are at the table with or without food. Once this boundary is established, and your dog crosses that boundary, stand up, face your dog, and firmly tell her “No”, followed by an “Out” command. As your dog backs away, remain standing for a moment, facing her to make sure she is respecting the boundary. If she continues to follow the rule, you can then slowly sit down.
The next rule that needs to be followed consistently is no food for your dog around the table or in the kitchen. Your dog should only have food from her bowl. This is another opportunity to have control of your dog’s food manners. Place your dog in a “Sit/Stay”. Once she is calm, place the food bowl on the floor and release her from her “Stay”.
Understanding how your dog perceives food will determine her actions. Remember that there is no such thing as “people food” or “dog food”. It all depends on how you present it.

Week-end Update: No Foolin' We Have Some Hoppy Tails To Announce
Tumblr media
Now that the Passover Seders are done & the sun is setting on Easter, it’s time to wrap up our week with some non-prank adoption notices.
We’re always happy to see one of our alumni, but it’s a super special occasion when one comes by to adopt a new brother or sister. This week we got to see how much Theo FKA Liam has grown and help him celebrate the 2nd anniversary of his gotcha day by adopting Barbie. We’re sure he’ll be an awesome big brother who will make sure the latest chapter of her story is a very happy tail indeed.
Also adopted this week were: Bert, Campbell, Cheddar, Harry, Lidge, Lola, Mary, Snoopy (now Sammy) & Trooper.
#gallery-1 margin: auto; #gallery-1 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-1 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-1 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

  We, of course, also have some updates to share as well
  Nala
#gallery-2 margin: auto; #gallery-2 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-2 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-2 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“A year ago today Nala came into our lives thanks to TLC! When we first saw her she was bigger than we expected for a puppy and questioned if she really was. Little did we know we were getting the biggest love bug, in size and heart. Thank you for helping Bring Nala into our lives. Our family wouldn’t be the same without her!
She’s about 65 lbs and SO tall. We did the DNA test and she is 25% Akita, 25% American Staffordshire terrier, 25% German Shepherd and 12% boxer”
  Mazie Grace FKA Ruth (R litter of September 2017)
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Mazie Grace had a big day!! She met the Easter Bunny and passed her intermediate puppy class!! 🐶 🐕 ‼️.”
  Lily FKA Louise (aka Sweet Louise, mom to Thelma & the flower litter of Feb 2016)
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“I ran into Kathleen today at the grocery store. I heard she recently adopted a German Shepherd. It’s so good to hear when a dog finds a good home. Seeing her made me think of sending a quick update on Lily. While I’m ready for the snow to be over, Lily loved getting one more chance to play in it. When there’s snow on the ground you’ll be sure to find some of it on her snout since she can’t help but keep burrowing in the snow. Since (for the most part) it’s gotten a little less cold we’ve gotten to spent a good amount of days at both Exton Park and Struble Trail.  Lily really loves the outdoors and can’t seem to get enough. Plus Lily is quite the charmer and always makes friends wherever she goes. At the park recently she greeted an old man who said being greeted by Lily made his day. We continue to make memories with Lily every day and absolutely love having her in our lives.”
  Winston FKA Monkey
“I wanted to let you know that Winston is doing great! He is such a happy, lovable boy! He loves people and other dogs.  We are enjoying him immensely!
Thank you for your organization and all that you do!”
  Nani FKA Boots (Mittens’ pup)
#gallery-5 margin: auto; #gallery-5 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-5 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-5 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Nani (aka Boots Mittens Puppy) update. Nani is doing very well. She is fun, playful and very smart. She already knows her name and can sit on command. She enjoyed playing outside in the snow with the kids and loved jumping for snowflakes She also loves snuggling with her big dog brother Max! She is still getting used to the cat but we are working with her and the cat is being super patient!  “
  Quill FKA McGill (M litter of March 2017)
#gallery-6 margin: auto; #gallery-6 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-6 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-6 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“A year ago today, I came in to see a little puppy named McGill, who was found in a box with his brothers. And I fell in love!
He’s since been named Quill and has grown into such a sweet and loving dog that makes my days so much better. He’s still has his cuddling pup charm and continues to just love everyone and every dog he meets.
He travels with me, goes into work with me, and is highly anticipated by my family when we have family functions. He fit right in from day one and I am so happy I was able to adopt him.
I just wanted to share some photos from over the year and say thank you for all you do! You were able to find my forever dog and I can’t imagine life without him. Continue to help dogs find their forever family. “
  Macy FKA Maisey
Macy FKA Maisey
“We have decided to call her Macy and since it’s so close to Maisy, I’m sure she didn’t notice the difference. We recently lost 2 dogs, Maverick and Kasey and we love that Macy sounds like a combination of their 2 names.
She’s doing really well and we love having her here. Our house was too quiet without a dog, so we’re enjoying hearing the pitter patter of her little paws.”
    Nesta FKA Nelda
“We named her Nesta. I thought someone mentioned to take her into the vet in 2 weeks? I just made the appt but I can try and see if they have any earlier dates.  She is is doing well, getting used to our house and she’s already crate trained-working on the house training now. “
  Nate is still waiting on a name
#gallery-7 margin: auto; #gallery-7 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-7 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-7 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“We are loving “Not-Nate”!! Lol We are almost decided on a name….stay tuned. He is such a great puppy!!! I have never had a dog and so I am learning and loving it so far:)! He is responsive and loves to follow directions, ALREADY!!!! We bathed him and he was such a little gentleman! We have a visit scheduled with our vet tonight to introduce them to…Not-Nate ;)!
Can you review with us once again what Nate’s situation was?? Was he abandoned with his litter mates? Was he from a puppy mill?!?? He is very comfortable in his crate but
hates going through doorways🤔🤔🤔.

#gallery-1 margin: auto; #gallery-1 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-1 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-1 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Bert
Campbell
Lidge
Lola
Mary
Snoopy now Sammy
Trooper
Barbie now Luna wTheo FKA Liam
  We, of course, also have some updates to share as well
  Nala
#gallery-2 margin: auto; #gallery-2 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-2 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-2 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
#gallery-3 margin: auto; #gallery-3 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; #gallery-3 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-3 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“Mazie Grace had a big day!! She met the Easter Bunny and passed her intermediate puppy class!! 🐶 🐕 ‼️.”
  Lily FKA Louise (aka Sweet Louise, mom to Thelma & the flower litter of Feb 2016)
#gallery-4 margin: auto; #gallery-4 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-4 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-4 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
#gallery-5 margin: auto; #gallery-5 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; #gallery-5 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-5 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
#gallery-6 margin: auto; #gallery-6 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; #gallery-6 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-6 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
#gallery-7 margin: auto; #gallery-7 .gallery-item float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; #gallery-7 img border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; #gallery-7 .gallery-caption margin-left: 0; /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
We are so happy and we think he loves us too.
Thank you for all you do!!”

New Post has been published on https://tlcrescuepa.com/how-to-tell-when-dogs-are-playing-too-rough/
How to tell when Dogs are playing too rough
One question I get a lot from owners with multiple dogs is “How do I know if my dogs are playing too rough?” Some people feel their dogs are being aggressive with one another. Others feel it could escalate into a fight and their dogs or even human family members could get injured.
Most dogs love to play and many of them love to play “hard”. They love to nip at each other, growl, jump, chase, and pin each other down. Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate this “playful” activity from the more dangerous “aggressive” activity.
Following the below guidelines should help you keep the dog on dog activity a fun and social event for everyone.
First and foremost, if “it just doesn’t feel right” to you, then stop the play. It is better to be on the safe side.
If one dog has his tail between his legs or his fur on his back is raised, play should be stopped.
If one dog is hiding behind you or backed into a small area with the other dog right there, play should be stopped.
When dogs play, they quickly switch roles because “it is only a game”. If one dog is constantly in the dominant role (always the chaser, on top, etc.) then play should be stopped.
If you hear one of the dogs giving off a high pitched yelp or crying sound, and the other dog is not backing off, play should be stopped.
If there is a large difference in the sizes of the two dogs, there should not be rough play.
  Remember that dogs are vocal. Some like to bark and make noises when they are playing. Watch your dogs’ body language to help to determine if they are just playing or ramping up to a dangerous situation. Let them play on your terms and stop them if they pass your personal boundary.
