Following the Scions and Warriors of Light’s triumph over the Endsinger and the permanent aversion of the Final Days, Hali returns to Ishgard with her love, Aymeric, and soon they begin to prepare for the Celebration Ball by practicing their ballroom dancing in Borel Manor.

Because I circulated a call to action about it here that got some traction: to those of you who contacted Maine legislators when it counted, thank you— it worked. Maine just passed sanctuary-state-level protection for trans rights.

One of the reasons I love this is that this is one of the few acknowledgements, even indirectly, by an NPC leader during ARR/post-ARR that what the WoL is being asked to do is traumatic. To me, it's always come across that he wants to give the WoL the chance to get drunk enough (or pretend to be drunk enough) to talk about how it feels to be used as a god-killing weapon constantly. Safely, with just one person, also presumably drunk enough to not remember later and who is known to be someone that Merlwyb trusts absolutely.

And Eynzahr here makes himself sound like the pirate king he was, but he doesn't normally talk like that. In fact, if anything, his speech is very refined. And judging by the conversations he participates in, he's a scholar, well educated. But he is also a leader of people who are mostly former pirates, and we know he was exceptionally successful as a pirate (not saying too much in case someone hasn't done the two Hullbreaker Isle dungeons.) And the above? Is a way to get people to talk about trauma when their culture would be extremely resistant to anything that might make them look weak to others.

And that's why I love that comment. He's trying to provide the WoL with a safe situation in which to talk because he knows what this is probably doing to the WoL and using the same strategy as he would with a Lominsan because the WoL at that point is famously known for not talking.
