Artificial angels that commune with the machine god
They form the ruling triad in the Transcendent Technocracy, but are as imprisoned as the rest.

It's so bad too cuz like even if the creator likes it, people will still harass you no matter what. It's a no-win situation built out of hatred and jealousy.
Maybe I should just dedicate to doing original art from now on
There are many existing media I love but ever since I was a teenager and first getting involved in any fandom, it always ends with me getting relentlessly harassed once my art becomes one of the most popular in the community and overshadows someone else’s interpretation. Now that I am an adult I still don’t stop getting it from other adults <- This is not to sound arrogant, merely that people will always be assholes and it’s all very tiresome

On the very day I announce I’m quitting 40k art, GW announces female Custodes (yay muscle women) sending those who harassed me into full on manchild meltdowns crying that wokeness has been inserted into the game

But what if in sacrificing your own goals and self everything doesn’t work out for the better? What if in the end, depending on an outside perspective, you wind up a bigger villain at the end of the story than the antagonist themselves? What if the world you saved becomes broken in the process?
You didn’t fail, you succeeded, but what if no one remembers why you did the thing that you did to them? And what will happen if the truth comes crashing down onto you?
in the ShB role quests, we watch each of Ardbert's party members make some sort of personal sacrifice, forced to discard their own goals, for the sake of the greater good. The moment they make that choice is when a Crystal of Light appears, officially marking them as Warriors of Light in recognition of their heroism and sacrifice. "By your sacrifice, a warrior made.", as the Shadowkeeper says in battle.
The same lore doesn't hold true for the WoL, back when they were in crystal-collecting mode in ARR and HW, the crystals just appear after major victories without the need for some sort of momentous sacrifice, and seem to serve mostly as a marker of how much story progress you've made/need to make to the end of the expac.
But if you think about it not lore-wise, but symbolically -
With each victory over a Primal, you're ensuring that you'll be the person who'll be called upon for help when next a Primal appears. You're cementing your own role as hero each time.
And each time, you are making personal sacrifices.
You might not even realize it until much later, what you have offered up, bit by bit - your freedom, your peace of mind, your own goals and desires, for the sake of the greater good of the star.
"By your sacrifice, a warrior made."

So about the benchmark...
Something incredibly funny that folks over on Twitter have discovered is that if you set your computer's date to 1st April, Meteor will... change somewhat.

Looking a little more gentlemanly than usual, Meteor.
Apparently he can get pretty damn blocky too, so make sure to check your hardware if you can count his polygons.
