What a surprise, another Welsknight Appreciation Post from Van.

I'm really enjoying how much the way Wels does his building in videos shows the compromises one has to make. The "I had a really cool idea, but forgot to account for this wall showing from the outside and now it messes up the look" moments, the "the ceiling sticks down weirdly because of how I built the floor upstairs" ones, the "I don't have the blocks for this and gathering them would break my flow". It's a lot of the thought process and on-the-fly adjustments, and making decisions that don't really have a Good answer, just an Okay one. And it feels a lot more like the kinds of things I end up doing when I build.

Especially for something that is built slowly over time, section by section - you're gonna run into a point where one part clashes with another. And you'll have to deal with it. And it might not look Amazing, and that is okay. Not every part of the build has to be amazing.

Like, I'm not sure I hear other builders say something is "just okay" nearly as much as Wels does. He'll dither over changing a block to make it "a little bit better". His way of marking that something is to a usable stage is "I don't hate it". He makes the stuff for a change, isn't sure it works, but commits because he's gotten this far.

It's relatable. Sometimes you just live with it.
