Oh, and, coming up for air, also finished Leviathan and Omega!
Omega’s…fine? Like, it’s 90% just taking elevators from one gunfight to another, but they’re some of the game’s better gunfights. The Rampant mechs got real annoying, though.
Carrie-Ann Moss is very good at chewing scenery as Aria, as always (and just stupid overpowered), and Nyreen’s just a really good character who could have been main game squadmate material imo. I always really expect you to get a Big Moral Choice about backstabbing Aria to give Omega to someone who, like, isn’t a monster. But I guess the writers are just too fond of her for that.
Also, it has a villain! Like, an incredibly boring Thrawn wannabe, but he had a name and face and characterization already putting him in the top 10% of antagonists in the whole series. The big final fight was also the first really difficult one in a while, since even on Hardcore I’m pretty comically overlevelled by now (died like four times before realizing to literally just run the upper level and snipe the generators when they’re exposed/not even bother fighting)
Leviathan was just actually really good, though! Not quite up there with the best parts of the core game, but better than most of it. The big final confrontation with the Leviathans 4km underwater really worked and managed to live up to the whole air of eldritch mystery the whole thing built up with. The investigations in Bryson’s lab were always fun, 2/3 missions were really good and the 3rd was at worst in the top tier of all the other ‘run and gun in a multiplayer map’ sidequests. Also the environments and skyboxes for all of them were just gorgeous.
