Shrine of Namira
Concept art for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
*Artist Unknown* But likely by Ray Lederer as he worked on other Daedric Shrine concepts
-This is a picture of a page with contrast adjustment to reduce blur. Apologies for quality.

Concept: Elrond is, by Middle-Earth standards, a perfectly respectable level of fancy. You know, he's an elf-lord, he has plenty of robes with intricate embroidery or layers of flowing fabric, he wears finely-crafted jewelry, especially during formal occasions. He's elegant, but not gaudy– there are some tasteful references to his various ancestors in his outfits, he's got a whole image. He assumes that this is like, standard for the Noldor.
What Elrond failed to realize when he sailed to Valinor is that the expectations for "Middle-Earth elf lord with vaguely Noldorian implications" and "Noldor prince in the Blessed Realm" are two very different things. He goes to a feast and everyone is dressed like they'll die if they're not wearing four layers of skirts and at least 20 pounds of gems and precious metals. He shows up to Finarfin's court wearing more jewelry than he ever would've worn in Rivendell and people still flash him strange looks and ask him whether he wasn't feeling up to dressing up that night. He'll braid his hair in the half-up half-down style he often wore in Rivendell and it'll cause a scandal because– gasp– Elrond had part of his hair loose. In public. Noldor keep giving him jewelry because they've collectively decided that he's clearly been deprived in Middle Earth. He's confused and a little bit afraid, frankly.
Thankfully, most of the attention is taken off Elrond when Tirion is engulfed in drama the likes of which hasn't been seen for hundreds of years. The cause? Galadriel showing up in Tirion with her hair entirely loose, and no jewelry to speak of. Her robes are entirely plain. Her only adornment is her unbearably smug smirk.

Hold on, I'm having Elrond thoughts right now. He looked at the mistakes of his ancestors and said "Nope. Not doing that again." When he sends Aragorn on the quest to destroy the ring he doesn't do it to get rid of him, like Thingol did with Beren. He does it because he knows love is powerful and he wants him to succeed. When he builds a secret kingdom, he makes sure to make it warm and welcoming for weary travelers, instead of keeping it hidden for everyone but a few select individuals. When the fellowship gets together, he tells them to swear no oaths. He's a symbol of the reconciliation between peoples: He has blood from the Maiar and blood from the Edain, he was raised by Feanorians, he is married to a lady born from the love of a Noldo and a Sinda. He keeps a pet hobbit around his house and takes him with him when he leaves Middle Earth. His father is a wandering star that shines for all, and when people need help they go to Elrond, because they know Elrond can help. So yeah, those are the Elrond thoughts I'm having.

more magic headcanons:
-dual-casting in the sense of casting the same spell using both hands is both common and easy. casting different spells simultaneously, however, is an advanced technique that can go badly if you aren’t careful
-transforming one thing into another completely is very difficult, harder the larger the object or being is to start with and yet harder if the thing you want to turn it into is very different from the starting point. brelyna maryon of the college of winterhold is extremely talented, just probably not in the way she wishes she was
-gender affirming procedures are really easy to come by in tamriel, especially in magic-heavy societies. there’s a wide variety of ways to use alchemy and alteration or restoration magic to sculpt your body the way you want
-most schools of magic have targeted, hands-on, and area-of-effect variations of their spells. restoration sticks to the hands-on variant for the same reason that your surgeon doesn’t do her job with a trash claw from ten feet away
-spells like “close wounds” are not permanent solutions. they’re the equivalent of a bandage or emergency first aid. proper restoration takes time to cast and isn’t a cure-all; you still need time to recover, and there can be complications
-certain things that you might assume are magic won’t be considered that way by the people who use them. for example, most dunmer probably wouldn’t consider their ability to summon an ancestor guardian to be magic
