Well timed stopovers and itineraries make us giddy! Pre-pandemic we flew from Dubai to New York City (right in time for the #balldrop) and stopped in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 as part of one-way itinerary with @cathaypacific. French Polynesia 🇵🇫 is open again for tourism, but with more Covid restrictions. We visited pre-pandemic and stayed at the @intercontinental @icfr_polynesia Resort Tahiti Tahiti before continuing on to #BoraBora. Flights to French Polynesia go through #Papeete, on the island of #Tahiti. Most often you’ll need to stay overnight in Tahiti due to limited flight times to the other islands. This @ihghotels property is a convenient place to stay just a mile from the airport for 65,000 @ihgrewards per night (IHG is a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards). We were supposed to go back to French Polynesia this summer, but with the mandatory 10 day quarantine requirement for unvaccinated travelers (who don’t have proof of immunity) we decided to cancel our trip. We’ve visited Las Vegas every May together for the past 5 years. Before the pandemic, Bertaut had conferences there for work and I would tag along for my birthday. Covid unfortunately put an end to the conferences, but we decided to keep up the tradition because we always have so much fun in Vegas. It was exciting to see how the city is coming back to life after so many hotels and restaurants were completely closed for months on end. Hotels are operating at 80% capacity now, buffets are allowed to reopen, many shows are starting to open back up, and physical distancing has been reduced from 6 ft to 3 ft, allowing increased capacity. Masks are required indoors except when actively eating/drinking and outdoors when 3 ft of social distancing cannot be maintained. We recommend making dining reservations in advance because many of the best restaurants are booked up months out! Would you visit Las Vegas now? P.S. 2 weeks ago in a blink of an eye, things could have been tragic and EXTREMELY hard to deal with. As we are making our way back to the 🇺🇸, we cannot help but feel such immense gratitude for the 2nd chance we’ve been given and for the miracle we witnessed firsthand. We cannot thank you enough for the support while we were going through the motions, feeling as powerless as we were. What are some of the things that you learned? Yesterday was a scary day for our family. We awoke to an early morning phone call that Bertaut’s dad was in a serious motorcycle accident across the world in Cameroon. We learned that he was in the hospital awaiting surgery for his injuries. We spent most of the day waiting for an update and praying for his life. Thankfully the surgery saved his life. The surgeon said he would have died yesterday if they hadn’t gotten him into surgery when they did. We are so incredibly grateful that he is still here with us, the patriarch of our family. This is a reminder that you never know when it will be your last day on Earth. Cherish the time that you have with your loved ones. Make the most of each day that you have together. As Bertaut prepares to fly back to Cameroon to be by his father’s side as he recovers, we are even more grateful for the beautiful weekend we shared together at @woodloch resort. Although virtual school has had its challenges, one benefit is that you can log in from anywhere, even on vacation. We were able to enjoy a family ski trip in Colorado without missing several days of school. During our stay at @sheratondenverdowntown we loved the cozy vibes in the newly renovated lobby, which was designed to promote gathering (with masks on of course). The kids logged into their virtual school by the fireplace before we hit the road for the Rocky Mountains. There are also glass-enclosed conference rooms and small nooks for a private phone call to allow people to work in their new inviting space. Anyone else prefer to work in a beautiful setting?
